Great reaction. The "ships" are called sandskiffs (or just skiffs). The ground in the fold is just sand all over. And they need the Squallers (Grisha who manipulating air and storms) to help navigate it through the Fold.
I know many fans are excited, but please stop putting so many obvious spoilers in your comments. Even if they are just vague hints and implications, it still counts as spoilers because people can quickly understand what you are trying to say. Give helpful info that helps them to watch the show? Yes. Give lengthy paragraphs of backstories filled with all kinds of hints and clues for future episodes/seasons? No!
Sorry long comment incoming. The scene with Kaz and Pekka Rollins (the older guy who threatened him), their scene makes much more sense and is more impactful if you know their history. But I won’t spoil that for you because it was one of the best reveals in the book. But just know Kaz and Pekka have some history. Also the soliders that were attacking Alina and the other grisha are called druskelle they are part of the Fjerdan military (Fjerda is north of Ravka). The druskelle are trained to hunt and kill grisha or kidnap them so they can stand trial and be burned at the stake. The marking on Inej’s wrist is a feather I believe (in the books it’s a peacock feather though I think) Tante Heleen (hope I spelled that right) bought Inej when she was 14 from slavers and Inej was forced to work in Tante Heleens brothel (or pleasure house as the books call it) called the Menagerie and Kaz is slowly paying off Inej’s “contract” but he hasn’t finished paying yet so she still can’t leave Ketterdam without Tante Heleens permission.
Kaz is amazing and his past is just soo heartbreaking so you should really give him your attention and think about his moral and what caused him to be that cruel and emotionless.
I've read the books so I'm already sympathetic to Kaz but to non-readers, all the information they have is what the show is providing. There's little to zero hints of Kaz having a tragic backstory in the show so far. Let the reactors find out for themselves as the story unfolds.
Really didn't know what to expect with this show. Thought it might be too YA for me haha but I've really enjoyed it so far. Not done with the season though!
Kaz is the best and most interesting character ever but I have to warn you, you should consider what might have happened to him in the past before you judge him after some cruel things he says or does.
The show hasn't hinted to Kaz's horrible backstory yet. They're just on episode 2. Just chill and let them experience the show organically. Stop giving out unnecessary mild spoilers.

I love how the show builds the world for the viewers not familiar with the books :) can’t wait for y’alls reactions to the rest of the episodes !
Another amazing looking show that I need to watch! ❤️
