Ah, the true golden age of gaming. Back then any game you seen or played got you excited. I remember me and my brothers used to have the house full of friends just to take turns playing a game. Talk about fun!
It truly was the golden age of gaming. It's cool that we all essentially did the same rituals when it came to gaming.
A few years ago I donated my original XBOX to a Charity.
Now im glad that someone who can not afford these things can play on mine :)

I did the same, then regretted it as I'd wished I had kept it, so went back to the charity shop next day to buy it back, went every day for nearly 2 weeks but it never saw the for sale shelf, really annoyed me that even if I couldn't have bought it back no one else had the chance to have something normally out of their price range.
Have since replaced my OG Xbox with another and had it modded, love it, great console, probably one of the best.
I not donated to charity... I visit the poor peoples zone and choose a kid and give it to him.....
Better than donating to charity ... you itself find and give someone who is in need ...

That "little animation" (aka music visualizer) can be made full-screen by hitting X + Y on the controller.
Try copying a whole CD, ALL tracks, to the hard disk, and then rename the playlist as "", exactly as what appears inside of the quotation mark with the letter E capitalized and the special symbol for the letter B, plus the two angled brackets on each side.

Those controller slots are for memory cards, yes. I think there were third party things for it as well. Also the word you're looking for in regards to the PS2 is Multitap
Over a year ago me and my brother were in the basement of my house looking for stuff and we checked in some old cabinet drawer and found the original Xbox just sitting in there! We were so shocked that we found something. We didn’t know what type of Xbox it was so we searched it up. I don’t know if we have anything else for it but it was a cool find!

Yeah, the DVD Playback Kit consisted of a DVD remote controller and a small infrared receiver that would be plugged into one of the controller ports. I do not recall what its original cost was, but if needed, you can purchase one online for around twelve dollars or maybe cheaper if you search around a little.

Use a XBOX 360 hardrive to play original XBOX games on XBOX 360(When you put a original Xbox game in it it will have to update real quick so you can start playing any Original XBOX game.

These things were built tough. Mine was originally my dad's which he bought back in 2001 or 2002(don't remember the exact year) and it lasted up until I finally got rid of it in 2010 i believe. I'm willing to bet it's still working to this day.
My PSone (what we now would call a Slim model) lasted until like 2018 or 2019. My PS2 is still going strong and I still play it, both PS1 and PS2 games

We used to call the original XBOX controllers the Cadillac Controller! The two slots in the back of the controllers were used for memory sticks, and headset attachment. That's why there were two slots: you could use one for storage and the other for communications simultaneously, eliminating the need to sacrifice one for the other.
Also, the green indentation on top of the console where the XBOX insignia is located actually functions as a holder for your tobacco water-pipe!
I just bought my the regional XBox at Goodwill for 24 dollars it work. This is the first one I am going to own. I never had one. I don't have the controller's yet.

Booted my original xbox for the first time since 2005 today, clock still set to then, game disc was never taken out, things full of dust as it sat in a closet for 13 years, as such it sounded like a jet plane but worked seamlessly, thinking of doing the mod through pc where you still can play online servers, miss the good old days playing my xbox until the 360 launched in 2005 and my ps2 until the ps3 launched in 2006

you obviously don't know what your talking about, it's not a DVD usb connector it's a connector but it doesn't have usb, it goes into the controller port of the xbox and you do need it to play DVD's if you don't have it softmodded but if you softmod it you don't need it you can just use your xbox controller. Some DVDs are compatible with the Xbox letting you play demos. I have one with the Van Helsing movie, it has a demo of the game inside.

Yes Majority of them works but you need a XBOX 360 Hardrive to play original XBOX games on XBOX 360. When you put your original Xbox game in the 360 for the first time your game will have to update real quick so it will install your version to play any og XBOX game.
Note:There are 5 og XBOX games unplayable but no worries cause there not that good anyway.
I play Sonic Riders and Soulcalibur 2 classic version for example on my 360. And the XBOX live marketplace is filled with original XBOX games like max pyane,Spyro and Star War games and One Crash game.

I'm 20, I used to play this a few times as a kid, never owned one until a few years ago, but yeah, I had a wii as a kid, although other family ownd ps2s and ps3s, 360s and stuff, which I also played on, and my cousin owned a Gamecube.

The DVD thing was one of the major disappointment back in the day too. The cool thing is is you can soft mod your xbox so you can play them without the extra accessories. This was a fun video from the perspective of someone who remembers when it premiered. Some of the same things you brought up we were saying back then.

How old the system is never plays a role on when you can play it. People play older generation consoles all time no matter if the system 25 years old.

If you see this, I want to suggest 2 things.
1. Open your Xbox up and remove the clock capacitor ASAP. These are known to leak and destroy the morherboard. You can't move hard drives from Xbox to Xbox either (unless you softmod) since the hard drive is locked to that motherboard.
2. Softmod the XBOX. This increases your chances at not losing your data if your Xbox dies, allows you to play DVDs without the receiver through a homebrew program called XBMC, you can save games to the hard drive, upgrade the hard drive, and run emulators and other homebrew.
And just a bonus - if you don't have a set already, invest in some Component cables for the XBOX. They allow you to run the system in 480p, 720p, and 1080i where supported.
You need to do an hardmod or install a modchip to be able to remove the stock HDD for another since a sofmod is "saved" on the hard drive.
This is false. My softmodded XBOX has a 80gb 7200RPM drive I put inside it. I was able to get everything nice and compatible, and without hotswapping, by using my PC with a program I can't remember the name of. I want to say XboxHDM, but I know that's not it.

Softmod doesn't allow for HDD swaping since everyting is saved inside the HDD.

Wait, no, I remember how the program worked now, and I don't think I did it entirely on PC. First, I copied the program to the Xbox's hard drive, then I booted it up with the top cover off and everything unscrewed. I waited until I got to the dashboard - then I unplugged the DVD Drive, and attached the new hard drive in its place (with a y splitter linking them together.) Then I ran the program from my Applications folder on the dashboard, told it to copy everything and pressed go.
Please read my second reply. You are incorrect about this. In fact, if you search youtube for "upgrade hard drive xbox softmod" you'll find many tutorials.
I bought the XBOX from some Christian father/preacher on Ebay Classifieds. He was so clueless about it he called it the "XBOX 80," and was selling it because it wouldn't play his DVDs. It was his daughter's before this, and the warranty stickers were still sealed. I know for a fact I am the first one to open it up, and I also know I am nowhere near skilled enough to install a hardmod or tsop.

S-video is a minimum on crt. I use component on most things and for my hdmi projector i use the pound hdmi cable. Looks dope.
I never got the proper cables for S-video so I use component and a full 5.1urround sound system haha

You can copy CD's on that system. You could even copy a cd then ad it to a games music setting n then listen to your favorite artists while playing.

My friend would copy his Halo saved profile and copy it into his memory card. He'd then head over to my house and pop it into my Xbox and we'd play together without having to make a profile for him and all his specifications.

What you do in 2018 with a original xbox: Softmod, Upgrade Harddrive, Play all the games your nostalgic needs desire plus a cool setup.
And remove the clock capacitor on models prior to late 2004/early 2005. Any version prior to 1.6.
