@@SnoopyReadsyes, well, it was acknowledged in his diane sawyer interview that the effects of what he'd been through had taken a toll on his voice & speech. And after his colon exploded from opioid abuse/being in a coma for 2wks and in the hospital for 5mths, he really never looked OR sounded like the same Matthew anymore. But as long as he was sober & finally doing well - that's what mattered. I'm so happy he was. A lot of damage was done to his organs though. So sad after all he'd survived and finally being secure in sobriety he drowned. Hot tubs can be too much for all kinds of conditions. He also had COPD. Ppl really need to be careful. I wish he hadn't been alone. 💔
Also the dead pool thing, yeah creepy. But ppl around him thought he'd die along time ago. Even himself. 😢😢😢

One of the saddest moments in the documentary of the singer Amy Winehouse came after she had won the coveted Record of the Year Grammy in 2008 (beating pop heavyweights like Beyonce). After her initial shock at the announcement, she remarked to a childhood friend, "this is so boring without drugs." So sad.

I'm going to try and remember that statement. Fits for lots of shit fting sands the day we're in. Many many people found themselves going from ruptured discs to bankruptcy and addicted homelessness. Many the morgue. Lot's of shattered dreams, broken hearts and fractured families. Just hearing 50 + a day, my brain goes... Oh , those first few hours of relief. From near non stop, excruciating pain, to a tremendous temporary... comfortable relief !
Glad there were good friends... Close. Humor eases the pain and struggle. Keep on trucking dude 😎 💙🕊️
There's a push out now, for making Narcan available over the counter. I'm for that ! Add that to the standard home, school etc, emergency kit, medicine cabinet. Wherever there's a defibrillator.. Narcan. Save lives. Great interview. Message there. Be well people.

As someone still fighting the battle with opioid addiction, I can relate to many of Matthew's stories and demons. And also to Bill's reference of "Waiting For the Man", the classic song about waiting for your dealer, as much a prisoner as a customer. (Btw, it's a Lou Reed/Velvet Underground song, though Bowie did some great versions).

Mark, i know you can do this. I may not know you but i know you can beat this horrible disease. I was prescribed dilaudid and fentanyl for a myriad of reasons, in my teens. Obviously, not the best time to prescribe those meds. Everyone was taking oxy then and i thought i had found this magical drug in fentanyl… stupid me, it was the hardest time in my life and i had the help of MAT. People have opinions about methadone, but it’s the reason I’m alive. I’ll have 15 years on 12/8/22… I was written off by almost everyone & rightfully so. I don’t know where you are … but I work in Drug & Alcohol now. Let me know if you want resources… or maybe just to talk. It can be isolating, when you’re trying to get sober and all your friends are a part of the problem. I had to change a lot. Anyway, I’ve written too much. I just wish you well, friend ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

Hi Bill, “I’m waiting for the Man” is by The Velvet Underground” by Lou Reed, 1967, and not David. Not being a pedant, just a huge fan (still!) of The Velvet Underground & Nico. The Velvet Underground’s ‘I’m Waiting For The Man’ was a key influence on David Bowie. He performed it numerous times, both live and in the studio.

The first prayer he ever prayed was to ask God to make him famous. But the second prayer led to a very real experience of God. And really, that’s what matters the most.
In his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, the actor who played Chandler Bing in the cult 90s comedy series Friends details 14 stints in rehab, 15 stomach surgeries and more than 60 attempts at detox. But he also talks about a supernatural encounter that reminds me much of my own.
After hitting rock bottom, Perry describes reaching out to God in desperation: “'God, please help me,’ I whispered. ‘Show me that you are here. God, please help me.’”
“As I kneeled, the light slowly began to get bigger, and bigger, until it was so big that it encompassed the entire room…What was happening? And why was I starting to feel better?”
“I started to cry. I mean, I really started to cry - that shoulder-shaking kind of uncontrollable weeping. I wasn’t crying because I was sad. I was crying because for the first time in my life, I felt OK. I felt safe, taken care of. Decades of struggling with God, and wrestling with life, and sadness, all was being washed away, like a river of pain gone into oblivion.
“I had been in the presence of God. I was certain of it. And this time I had prayed for the right thing: help.”
    Matthew Perry
