    Many thanks for sharing all that info. It's very clear and well explained. I reckon I could now fit lights to my Pullman table lamps by following your instructions. Your train looks great with the classy loco haulage!

    Hello Roy, good morning and congratulations on a fantastic video production and tutorial on how to install those micro LED lights.
    Your knowledge, skills and explanations are impressive and so inspirational.
    I really enjoyed watching and listening and am grateful that you were able to pull this altogether and post it. I know what it takes to make a video, edit it, produce and upload it to TH-cam. Many do not have these skill sets.
    Thanks so very much for sharing this with us all. I hope you have a garage heater on your wish list. Merry Christmas❤👍🖊📐🔥

    The good thing about wheatheads is that they're LED so don't get warm, + don't draw much ampage from the current so a full rake of 8+ is easily possible - I love this layout Roy, it's a great one!

    Hi Roy,
    Well done on this but will I do it no way would drive me up the wall but thanks for showing us all how to do it if we want. You should not be in the garage in the cold keep in the warm but I wish you and your wife a Very Happy Christmas & New Year.

      Thanks for your kind words Robert. yes it was too cold in the garage and the cost of running the heater at the moment is a bit expensive, a thick coat and a short period of time.

      Thank you Roy, Christmas time is not a good time for me after loosing two members of my family. I am 67 and my son is 33. He will come and see me so I won't be by myself on Christmas day. I spent most of my working life on the railways then I changed profession and worked for the NHS in the Diabetes department then on one of the covid wards at our local Hospital, that certainly put life into prospective. And to top it all I caught covid then had a cardiac arrest and spent time in the Cardio department. But am still smiling, Best wishes for the season. 👍

      Martin, seems you have not had the best luck in the world.
      My wife was taken into hospital early hours Saturday morning, she started chemo treatment about two weeks previous and it has had bad side effect on her.
      I am now visiting every day between 2 & 4pm, not sure if she will be home for Christmas yet but she is on the mend.
      I expect our Christmas to be a bit quite.

    Hi Roy,
    I'm working right now on a similar project.
    I first did overhead light in my 12 Hornby teak LNER coaches, and now I started the Pullman's.
    I also give the Interior color like teak walls, tableware, figures and curtains.
    I've got in total 24 pullmans to do.
    I now first started with 12 very old Triang ones, I know that they are not in proportion, but I still like them.
    I even made casting inserts for the oval bathroom windows as the cross devision is absent with them.
    I'm very interested in the LED lamps you use, can you give me a link where they are available?
    I now have slightly bigger 3mm LED, but I shape them on my lathe to the lampshade form.
    Very labor intensive but great result.
    Ones the old Triang are done I start with the new Hornby types.
    Anyway, thanks for the video and I wish you a Merry Christmas…
    Best regards,
    Danny

    Hi Roy. Can you tell us what capacitor value you used, and what resistor (looks like 1k2). Did you put the capacitor before the resistor (like Hornby do on their posh pullmans) or afterwards?

    • @roystrains
      @roystrains  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Capacitor is16v 1000uf, I think the resistor was 1k. The capacitor is connected directly to the DC side of the Vishay Bridge Rectifier, 1A, 50V, 4-Pin then the resistor to the positive side of the capacitor.
      I got the capacitors and bridge rectifiers from uk.rs-online.com/web/
      You can just about fit a 25v 4700uf capacitor in that space if you want longer stay alive times. the smaller one is enough to stop the flicker with those bulbs. Hope that helps.
      I've added extra details of components to the description.

    • @gs425
      @gs425 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@roystrains thanks for your reply Roy. But perhaps you ought to measure the voltage across the cap with it in that position. Would be a shame for one to blow inside your coach with over voltage.

    • @roystrains
      @roystrains  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your warning, I will check it out and see about making a modification.

    • @gs425
      @gs425 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@roystrains its something I have yet to play with myself but its on my job list. You can use
      either 25v, or maybe put cap across leds which would allow for lower voltage rating so therefore higher uF. You are good to listen to Roy, I will subscribe. Cheers Gary

    Great coaches and lighting.
    I have the Hornby Pullman coach like in the video but noticed that when it's being pulled by the loco the lights flicker but when it's stationary they stay on constantly.
    Why is this?

    • @roystrains
      @roystrains  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know how the Hornby designed their circuit in the pullman coaches. In mine I use a 25volt 1000uf capacitor which stores enough energy to keep the lights going for several seconds after loss of power.
      5 of these for about £3 from www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Radial-Electrolytic-Capacitors-many-values-16v-25v-50v-Packs-of-5-and-10-UK-/111776442470?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0
      These would need to be soldered to the hornby circuit where it outputs to the lights best I can say.
      Alternately make sure your wheels and pickup connections are clean and the track.

    • @mattseymour8637
      @mattseymour8637 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@roystrains Thanks for the reply. As I'm not great at soldering and doing stuff with circuit boards I think will leave it as it is for now and see if cleaning will help as that's what other people have suggested.
      If that doesn't work what else do you suggest apart from installing what you suggested?

    HI Roy what value of resistor is that would it work on DC Lay out

    • @roystrains
      @roystrains  ปีที่แล้ว

      About a 600 ohms resistor will do, i think you can go down to about 300 ohms if you need them a bit brighter. Would work DC but not the same as the light brighness would be dependant on the speed of the train, when stationary the lights would go out. You would not need the bridge rectifier for DC would say use a 24 volt 1000uf capacitor.
