    Hi Sean.
    In my house the regular string of hearts is my easyest and fast growing plant. 😊
    I have a suggestion for a future video. Can you please make a video talking about plants that die and grow back? Most people throw them away and it is so sad. A few weeks ago I found a live cyclamen on a pile of old soil my mother keeps on a corner of the garden. She thought it was dead and thew it there.

    Interesting choices. I am shocked you didn’t include Calatheas. They are the ultimate diva houseplants, from my experience. I guess it depends on environment as well. I find the string of hearts and maiden hair ferns not bad so far in terms of care. My maiden hair fern gets thirsty every three days or so in my environment. I only water my string of hearts when it is almost or fully dry (about once a week). I find the string of pearls I had was hard to care for - it only had half a dozen strings in a pot and dried out even when I tried to water it when soil was partially dry. It is now on its last legs and has become a rescue plant (I put its roots in water as the pearls mostly dried out) but it doesn’t look like it will make it.

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I keep propagating the string of hearts and pearls... but I do keep killing the parent plants 😅
      I actually included calatheas in my previous segment of this video with Elle TV thats why I didn’t mention it in this one. But yes they are the ultimate divas!

    I didn’t water my fittonia for over 2 weeks, I thought for sure it was dead! I gave it some water just to see what would happen and it perked back up! I’ll loose a lot of the leaves because they’re more dry than normal, but the plants I have grow quick, and big. I started with 1, 4 inch (pot) plant in March, and now I have 4, 8 inch (pot) plants! THANK YOU for sharing your knowledge with us!!

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It looks like fittonias do better underwatered than overwatered. When they rot you lose the whole plant 😌

    • @jayesbeautifulchaos2244
      @jayesbeautifulchaos2244 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@onlyplants agreed 100%!! My plant did lose a lot of the leaves, but there are new ones growing back already!! I also discovered that they do not like a lot of light. I have to use lights in my home because we don't have a lot of windows and one of my other fittonias was under the light looking very small compared to my others, and the leaves were curling. so I put it in another room with a window and now it's doing great! The leaves are getting bigger, and the plant is growing great! So what I've learned so far with these silly picky plants is less water is better that over water, and less light is better than more light.. silly plants anyway!!

    A nice informative vid. Interesting selection of 'diva' plants. Your maidenhair fern is lovely. Looks like a type with medium frond size which is quite rare. You're right, I think not many maidenhair ferns thrive in the lowland tropics. There are a few types that do quite well though. Maybe acclimatised for many generations in an heirloom collection 😃

    haha i have the droopy one and it is actually one of my easiest ones to take care of. it's in the bathroom, and i water here and there but *definitely* if it gets droopy. the ferns, however................... The Brown-a-ning. (so according to recent research, just water a lot more often... and don't throw out if it looks DEAD dead... just trim and water. *finally*, a game plan. i've been worried and sad over them. usually i don't have problems with plants.)

    When I bought my first fiddle leaf fig, I researched a lot because people are saying that it's real demanding plant when placed indoors. So when I brought it home, I didn't even tried to put it inside and just placed it on our porch (with tinted transparent roof). And since then I did not move it and just admire it from a distance. I think they can sense when someone is too close to them, and they will drop leaves like how lizards can detach their tails when threatened. 😂 But mine's growing fine, Thank God! It unfurls around 2 really large leaves per month, so it's fast and in a few months, if it didn't branch out on its own, I might have to cut off the bud, I'm a bit scared but I think if the plant survive it, it's gonna be so worth it.

    Hi, Sean. (Correct spelling?). I have both the regular green-leaved and variegated (newly purchased) string of hearts. The regular ones are growing well. However, I can't seem to get the care right for the variegated ones. All but one vine have thinned out or had leaves curl up and falling off. The leaves on the one surviving one are soft and wrinkled looking. Some of the top leaves have dropped off as well. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello the trick with them is to get the watering exactly correct. They have to be dried out completely between watering but not for long. They are very prone to rot in our high humidity environment and do not forgive overwatering. Its one of the hardest plants in my collection

    • @lilianchee4490

    I am surprised to see String of Hearts and Tradescantia Nanouk on the list. In my experience they are very easy. I put my variegated and non variegated SOH in an east facing window and a south facing window. Just water them when the soil is very dry (usually the east facing window ones every 14 days, and the south facing window one every 10 days). They have been thriving and don't need my attention at all. Same with the Nanouk. It's in my east facing window and I water it every week. I guess location matters. I am in California. 😬
