I was standing at a market stall in Malaysia watching them make food. A Malay girl asked me where I was from and explained what they were cooking....I decided to buy the food so she ordered for me and then left. When I went to pay the man for my food he told me the girl had paid for me....I will never forget her kindness....I LOVE this country.....wish I was back there....greetings from Ireland x
hahhaha relatable....but i am malaysian, and ive been experience for about 3 times where someone had already paid my food. Once, i asked the person why she pay for me and the reason is just because today is her special day (i dont remember what special day she said) (edit) 3 times people paid my food but ive experience people paid for my things too and im very grateful!!i guess they were having a very good day..

I love malaysia so much. Ive travelled all across asia for 1 year and malaysia was undoubtedly my highlight. I went there for 1 week and stayed for 8!! Everything you said about the people is true! They are the nicest welcoming people ever and they dont want anything in return unlike thailand where they 'usually' just want your money. I think the strong islamic culture makes the community experience even stronger. Im planning to move to Pennag when im 31 when i retire.
"I think the strong islamic culture makes the community experience even stronger." I would agree with that. In Thailand I often feel that I am being ripped off because people are so focused on money. Here people are totally different. Of course, they will be the occasional taxi driver who tries it on by taking you the long route, but that happens anywhere in the world.

Angela Lawing i see ur point and agree, but from my experience i had the best interactions with the muslim malays. I asked them how come they are so friendly and they literally said its the islamic way of life to invite others for food and hospitality.
I used to study in Malaysia... watchng this brought back the memories!!! I totally agree, malaysians are some of the best people I've ever met and im talking about all the races. Extremely friendly! And the food! Damn it ! I miss this place! I must go back and live there for at least a month!!!! Malaysia Boleh!
I was in Malaysia for a short while and I realised that people were super kind and well behaved..many strangers had paid for my meals without me knowing anything about it!!! Paid and gone not even giving me a chance to thank them.
You are always welcomed back sir...i think the reason that you have found warmth and happiness in malaysia is because you yourself have shared your love with the ppl you met and you chose to focus on the positive instead of the negative. All the best to you and hope you continue to visit our country.
Thank you saying those kind words. I believe every country has negatives about them, but focusing on the positives is important at a time when there is so much negativity in the world.

Alya Hamzah; shame this is not reflected in the draconian race hate laws in Malaysia and Indonesia against families with mixed origins.. total insult to Islam
I've visited most countries in Asia, and Malaysia is my favourite. As you said - the people, the mix of cultures, the public transport, the prices, and of course the food....all excellent!
I would choose Malaysia as my first choice for sure if I do emigrate from the UK. I would move to KL anyday. I've been to KL a few times, Putrajaya, Malacca, Kuala Terenganu, Redang Island, Perhentian Islands, Langkawi. This country is absolutely awesome
I absolutely LOVE Malaysia, its natural beauty, culture and food, but most importantly its people. I've been branded an undercover Malaysian many a time on TH-cam, precisely for saying things like that. But having been to this wonderful nation several times, I think I can speak from a bit of experience. I haven't, however, been to Borneo, so that's definitely on the bucket list.
Hi Darren , i understand deeply what you show for your feelings about Malaysia ..thats the best of country in South East Asia i ever visited , feel like home sweet home when landing there ..Malaysia Truly Asia ! Really mean it ..
Im from malaysia, im so proud when you said you're happy living in malaysia. We as malaysian people welcoming whoever comes to malaysia. Thank you my brother
This is very positive comments about Malaysia. Thank you and stay peacefully in Malaysia. We are Malaysian and we are multicultural. We love peoples and accept all the differences and uniquely.
Please come to malaysia including sabah and sarawak .. you can go to mount kinabalu, semporna so many beautiful island, in semporna .. i gerrenti you love it malaysia .. yeahh
I'm a Filipino and have been in Malaysia 2x for training. First was in KL and the 2nd was in Damai Laut. The people are great and the food as well. A truly peaceful and relaxing place compared to where i'm from. Planning for my MM2H in 3 years or less.
I know Malaysia is a pluralistic society with many different cultures and religions, but if there's any Muslim-majority country I'd readily recommend for the hospitable cultural experience alone, it'd be Malaysia. Believe me, I've been to a few.
Can you tell us the name of the apartment you're staying in? Is it in a hotel? For the reasons you gave, I love Malaysia too. My third time visiting, last year, I was at the airport having just arrived and wanted something to drink. I was at a store wanting to buy a soft drink for 20RM but realized I had only 8RM 'cause I didn't exchange money yet. An older gentlemen standing next to me offered to buy it for me. I didn't let him but I was really impressed by his kindness. Btw, another reason I think Malaysia is great is they also have western style food that I often can't get in the Asian country I'm living in. So in addition to Malaysian cooking, I can enjoy western dishes like back home that I miss. To some degree I think Malaysia is a hidden gem though more people are discovering it.
Hi, I am staying in an apartment, but will do an apartment tour later in the week, revealing all. I had a similar scenario where I went to a shop, and I realised I didn't have any money, so told the shopkeeper that I'd go to the ATM, and come back. He told me to take the drinks and bring the money later, which again blew my mind. When I returned with the money he gave me the drinks for free, and said that I am a trustworthy person, so have them on me. I could write a book about the stories from the last 3 years that I've not discussed on videos.
Malaysian here.. If you are paying Rm20 for a soft drink somebody is ripping u off.. A can cost around Rm2 usually in convenient stores, altho restaurants might sell up to rm5-7
I made an error. The soft drink was a plastic bottle and around RM5-6 but I was also trying to buy a newspaper if I recall. I didn't have enough to buy both. So the gentlemen offered to buy me the soft drink. :-)
Terima kasih... im malaysia but i want be like japanese people.. hope u all wish malaysia can be like japanese people and korea people.. first class minded... 😍😍

One thing you said Darren really connected with me. I was a seaman for 32 years and have been all round the world. I started working on bulk carriers which stayed in port any where from one week to a month. When people ask me the best country I have been to , I tell them without hesitation that the best places are the places where I have been fortunate to make good friends. Then I realized that these places were always the remote ports with only small towns or villages nearby. I remember there were 300 hundred local people at the port of St. Vincente in Chile to see us off after 3 weeks in port. My Chilean friends wrote me to say that this was reported in their local with pictures the next day. They said this had never happened before. In retrospect, I have come to realize why this happened. Like me, 80 % of the crew were Malaysians. It does indeed take two hands to clap. Being brought up in a multi racial country has made it easier to get along with people of different cultures. We have come to see that there are only two different colors in this world, the color good and the color bad.
@@remotedarren Once you have grown up with someone and formed a strong friendship you stop thinking in terms of color, creed or religion. Thanks for the acknowledgement and appreciation.

Darren I can confirm everything you just said I arrived in Malaysia in 2002 for work. Having worked in 11 countries before I felt like at home here within two weeks. Since ten years I enjoy retirement in KL and still am very happy here.
Lots of foreign people told me Malaysia is a blessed country, pity that many locals don't feel those blessing and take things for granted.May you have a blessed life thanks

Dear Sir, as a Malaysian, I would like to thank you for your positive reviews about Malaysia. I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay in Malaysian. We always welcome you to be back in Malaysia anytime as you like. Cheers and all the best for you, sir.
Hi Darren...it has been a pleasure watching your video with all the nice and positive compliments about my country, Malaysia. Most of the international visitors/travellers that I 've met in KL and other main cities in Malaysia often told me that Malaysia as one of the preferred holiday destinations or destination for retirement in Asia lie on these four main important factors: 1. The friendliness of its people 2. Foods 3. Cultural diversity 4. Cost of living compared to other major Asian cities. These are generally the reasons why Malaysia is well-liked or favoured by most foreigners. Keep up with your good work and spirit, Darren! Hope to watch you again in your next video! Malaysians certainly love your positive attitude. :-)
Hi Andy, it sure is. I'd love to spend longer here in the future, and visit Sabah, Sarawak and some of the islands and cities like lpoh. Kuala Lumpur always drags me back though because it's such a great city to visit.
I agree with you Darren. I am also a Brit married to a Malaysian Chinese and we have visited Malaysia every year since 1980. We have our own condo in Klebang, Melaka but travel all over Malaysia. Lovely people and great food. Who needs to go anywhere else.
Thank you so much for the kind comment. Yes, Malaysia is a beautiful country to be in. I migrated but decided to retire in Malaysia since my aging mum doesn't want to go over to where I migrated. I am glad that I came back... food, people and cost of living very very affordable.
Malaysia truely asia..of course there's a good and bad about Malaysia. But, thanks for all the compliment. Hope someday you will visit Borneo (Sarawak and Sabah). Maybe you find a little bit more experience there. Dont worry the food still the same..
Hi Eddy, there's no such thing as a perfect country, and there are good and bad people everywhere, just as they are good and bad things about every country. I prefer to focus on the positive, because there is so much negativity in the world. Borneo, Sarawak and Sabah are certainly on my list for the next time I visit Malaysia. 👍
evelyn latou Sabah (North Borneo) is often referred to as “The land below the wind”, because of its location just south of the typhoon-prone region around the Philippines.
When you live in the country, sometimes it is easy to forget. I'm the same with England - with all the political turmoil that's going on and negative news, you need something to remind you that's not all that bad.
I have been watched many videos about a westerner talk about malaysia. This one is the most positive. Thanks for giving positive comment about my country. I give u 1 tips, u or other westerner also can be a famous celebrity if u can speak malay here. 😃

Tomorrow will be visiting KL for the first time am excited to see it I have been to most countries in Asia and so far this is one of my favorites. I cold see living here if I can sort out the long term visa requirements. Nice video by the way!
It really touched my heart when you shared the story about your neighbour giving you the tray of eggs. I was a teenager when I followed Dad to live in Malaysia. There were only the two of us and Dad works offshore A LOT back then. So I was left to my own devices. I WAS NEVER LEFT FOR WANTING when it comes to food! Every single day, pretty much every single meal, all my neighbouring aunties and uncles will give me the food they made for their family. Every single day, without fail, without my Dad arranging anything, without me asking, without us paying or giving anything back. I still live with that spirit of giving until today. They have not only made me feel loved and welcomed, they have also instilled in me the spirit of giving which I hope I will pass on to my kids someday! Oh, and YAYYY NASI LEMAK!!
I moved to Malaysia a few months back for work. I repositioned here with a view to retiring in the Region, Malaysia is up there for early retirement, indeed my Thai friends go as far as saying cost of living is cheaper than Bangkok. It's a hidden gem.
I like malaysia because they live peacefully with another races, respect each other, nice n helpful.. such a unique country n we feel comfortable with it..

Malaysia food is definitely one of its charm that attracts everyone, even a local like myself. We came from the land of Sarawak and coming here to live in KL (for work), we met so many lovely colleagues who are from Penang, Kelantan, Malacca, Johor. etc. Everyday, we learn something new about the food that they talk about from their hometown and vice versa. We talk about food in Sarawak (kolo mee, sarawak laksa, umai, ayam pansuh, etc) and they tell us about nasi dagang, kuih badak berendam, etc. I believe that every food has a story and always, people are happy to share their story of their favourite food with us. Oh yeah, thank you for sharing your story about having the lovely nasi lemak. And you're always welcome here in Malaysia!
Thank you for loving Malaysia! It's great to know that you met nice people and experiencing good things. Thank you for sharing positive thoughts about our country.. and we apologize if anything inconvenient happened to you during your travel here
as a muslim of malaysia.. im really happy that you are happy here.. im hope that you are always safe and secure staying here.. people in the villages are also very nice..
Yes, I'll miss it too. So much to explore and discover walking around the streets and neighbourhoods. Looking forward to my travels over the next 6 months, so will be revealing more about that soon.
I agree, I'm in Penang at the moment and just last week, I went to watch the sunset in a beach bar/restaurant and I had a bit of money around 70 ringgit but asked if I could pay via card, one of the staff must have misunderstood me and said yes, so after my bill came it was around 120 Ringgit, I gave my card and they said they didn't take it. Solution: expecting to have to go to a ATM , they said just send us the money online when you get home. Imagine that trust elsewhere! Blew me away, I actually paid online via Transferwise app in the end at the bar .
This video speaks volume bout your whole self being in Msia. It’s truly overwhelming to hear all those warm opinions bout my country from an outsider (who knows you might be an insider in a few more years here) I wish you will never get bored of our very humble and small place. Please take yourself to explore Borneo (Sabah & Sarawak) as well, bet you will love it on a diff level! Well Wherever you are Darren, please take care! :)

loved this video Darren. I'm really glad to know that this place brings so much happiness to you. my fave part of the video was all the food you would cut to when describing them lol made me hungry maaaan. This style of video is always one of my faves because it's like a mini documentary with a lot of information and great visuals to compliment them. The journey may be over, but there's plenty more ahead right? Very excited to see what else is in store for the future.
Hey, thanks for the feedback. Glad you enjoyed the video, and I plan to do more of this type of video, providing I can think of interesting topics to talk about and have the b-roll. No, the journey isn't over - just a 4 week pit-stop in the UK, and then new adventures commence. I'll be revealing the route soon, although you follow me on Twitter, so, I've already given it away 😆
Thank you for watching and commenting! Yes, going back home to the UK made me realised how stressed and unhappy a lot of people are with their lives and the current situation there. Malaysian's seem to be more chilled back and enjoying life.

Thanks for your good feelings about my country Malaysia. We are proud to be Malaysians, we love our country, we think it's great. We have great delicious cuisines, great beautiful natural physical landscapes, great infrastructure and great friendly Malaysian people. Of course nothing is perfect in the world, any inconvenience you encounter in Malaysia is genuinely regrettable. Next time you're in Malaysia, please explore all the 13 great states of Malaysia, from Perlis to Sabah..you'll see our cultural and physical diversity..
Thanks for the comment, and I agree, no country is perfect. The next time I visit Malaysia I do want to see more of the landscapes and especially Sabah and areas all over.
Nice sharing 👍, I am a mixed, from Chinese - Malay family in Kelantan. Actually, it is one of the old tradisional culture, the people will welcome others the most, especially when the tourist act politely & nicely, that is what they will get in return. The local will really appreciate outsider with good manners, what you give is what you'll get back in return, especially when we are talking about rural, village people, they are more nicer compare to those who live in the urban cities.
It feel good to see how much you love this beautiful country. Welcome back again and again in advance. If you are in petaling jaya, let me buy you a dinner.
its TRUE!!! i'm korean and i came to malaysia to visit my friends and guest what my car broke down and literelly lots of malaysian stop by asking me and thats just WOW
Is the public transport in the UK that bad? Wow, I never expected that. I guess Malaysians complain too much about everything. With everyone complaining, it feels like the public transport in Malaysia is the worst.
Hi John, the UK is one of the worst countries for public transport based on my travels over the past three years. I'd say the USA is in that group too. I am really surprised Malaysian's complain about public transport but i guess it depends on where you are in the country. For example, in cities like Putrajaya, there's not much of a public transport to talk about - in Penang you are reliant on buses to get around. Most of my time has been spent in KL, and the transport here is fantastic, in my opinion.
I guess it might be because Mahathir told us to look east to Japan, and their public transport is unbeatable. Maybe that's why we complain so much? Hmm..
John L south korea n japan are unbeatable!!their public transport is amazing..easy,safe and u don't have to wait long for next bus or train ..im living in johor, and i can that only bus is public transport here but still not safe, and u have to walk like 10 minutes to get to their station and the time for next bus if you're left behind is like it's better to walk😢😢I'm envious of south korea n japan..but even can't be like them,at least provide other state like what kl's tranportation has..
The answer is just simple. Those people are not grateful enough.! They dont realize how fortunated they are compared to MOST of the countries around the world.
Doesn't London has one of the best public transportation system in the world? I can't say for the other cities in UK. Just like in KL, it can't compare with Penang or JB.
Thanks Pete, I think I might start doing one sit down vlog a week, talking about a particular topic. As for returning home, sadly, on Saturday I will be flying back home via Dubai. Make sure the runway is ready for me 😂
Darren, we have our fair share of problems but it’s nice once in a while to hear something positive from a foreigner. You are right. It’s the people that makes us special
Another great video Darren. I really enjoy your honesty and enthusiasm in all of your ventures. I do like the sit down straight talking - especially about you apartments, food quality and the ease of getting around kL. Can’t wait to hear about your new ventures!!!
Thank you, Alan. I enjoyed creating this travel talk video today, and planning to possibly do these once a week while travelling, if I have something interesting to share with people. So many travel stories on things that have happened that didn't make it into a video that I'd like to share with people.

I know Malaysia is a pluralistic society with many different cultures and religions, but if there's any Muslim-majority country I'd readily recommend for the hospitable cultural experience alone, it'd be Malaysia. Believe me, I've been to a few.
Thank you for the nice comment.I seen your nice comment about Malaysia everywhere. So can I know where are you from?Just curious.
This is true. Most I've paid is 2-3RM for a can, but I guess they could have been buying a 2litre bottle.
keyword here--airport..but i think that is way too overpriced even at the airport..
I made an error. The soft drink was a plastic bottle and around RM5-6 but I was also trying to buy a newspaper if I recall. I didn't have enough to buy both. So the gentlemen offered to buy me the soft drink. :-)
Been to Malaysia twice and going back in February 2020, love your channel, definitely make Malaysia home when I retire in 5 years.

Great comment! :)

Hi Darren...it has been a pleasure watching your video with all the nice and positive compliments about my country, Malaysia. Most of the international visitors/travellers that I 've met in KL and other main cities in Malaysia often told me that Malaysia as one of the preferred holiday destinations or destination for retirement in Asia lie on these four main important factors:
1. The friendliness of its people
2. Foods
3. Cultural diversity
4. Cost of living compared to other major Asian cities.
These are generally the reasons why Malaysia is well-liked or favoured by most foreigners.
Keep up with your good work and spirit, Darren! Hope to watch you again in your next video!
Malaysians certainly love your positive attitude. :-)
Thanks for the comment, Sam.

Sabah (North Borneo) is often referred to as “The land below the wind”, because of its location just south of the typhoon-prone region around the Philippines.

Solution: expecting to have to go to a ATM , they said just send us the money online when you get home. Imagine that trust elsewhere! Blew me away, I actually paid online via Transferwise app in the end at the bar .

its TRUE!!! i'm korean and i came to malaysia to visit my friends and guest what my car broke down and literelly lots of malaysian stop by asking me and thats just WOW
I completely agree. The underrated gem of Asia!

Next time I visit Malaysia, I'd like to see more of the beautiful places and possibly less cities. Looking forward to coming back.
