    5:32 Make sure your vacuum cleaner has a HEPA filter, as the toner particles are small enough to pass through a normal dust filter and get exhausted back into your room. Breathing in plastic particles isn’t good for you.

      Yea I learned hard way. That shot color dust all over my floor. I had to put a wet towel on exhaust to catch it after the first cartridge.

      A couple of easy housekeeping items.
      First, make sure the vacuum is plugged in & within reach using only one hand. Almost had a huge mess on my hands because I forgot to plug it in.
      Second, do cover the part he tells you to cover. I didn't and almost made a huge mess trying to be careful & almost dropped it. It's worth it to keep the unit covered.
      Third, buy the 'single' use toner refill-kit as he did. Mine was enough for two refills so I didn't snip the tip as he did, and when there is a 'poof' of air because you're squeezing it to make it go through that tiny hole faster, it makes a huge mess.
      I had purchased the new chips a long time ago, but that chip reset tool looks super easy and would pay for itself after the first use.
      PS - thanks for the comment on having to align the unit before putting the top back on. The same thing happened to me, and it made a big difference knowing exactly what to do!
      Thank again :-)

      One thing with the vacuum, filter the exhaust with a towel or old shirt. It sends toner out, I had to wipe the floor and chairs that were behind me.

      Rup Dog these are aftermarket refills. Printer companies are really ink and toner companies so they want you to spend $200 on a set of new cartridges not refill. That’s why I had to reset the chips.

    Thanks for a very good video. I bought a refill set that came with chips. I found that when I went to refill, I had to dump out a lot of toner that was remaining in the cartridge. I see that you didn’t do that. Was your cartridge totally empty before you refilled?

    • @TunerwithKids

      It always has toner in it. I usually reset mine twice before I refill since the chips count pages not actually toner used.

    Hello sir. Can you use it to reset toners for other Ricoh printers like Ricoh sp5200 and others

  • @georgeloush4300
    @georgeloush4300 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Tried this and it resulted in a mess! First of the plier is a bad idea since it break the cap, better to use something else and not break it, since otherwise you can dump the whole thing. The second issue I got is when I tried to put the parts together, very difficult and may result in damaging. After several tries I managed to close it and started printing, got half page cyan! (yes I was replacing cyan). Dismantled it again a saw a spill of toner which ended on the drum roller. Not sure what to do now, if I can clean it or it's to just dump it in the bin.

      The C320 uses a different model number toner. The process of filling is same but the chip reset using reset tool might different. The kits aren’t as widely available as the c250DN.

    Isn’t it easier to buy ones that came with the chips, so you don’t have to reset it? Or is this way better?

    • @TunerwithKids
      @TunerwithKids  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just depends on your technical level. Some might opt for the $10 in chips. If you have the skill set for the Ardiuno programming, then that’s better. I reset mine twice before refill because the printer goes stupid because the chip says it’s empty based on pages printed but the cartridge still has plenty of toner.

    I have exact printer model u have in this video - Ricoh SP 250dn. I downloaded the code (“I2Cv2.ino” in the link you provided ). I assume thats the file and you change the numbers one at a time to reflect the desired color and compile the code?

    • @TunerwithKids
      @TunerwithKids  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think there are instructions in the notes for the program. I also linked to a video by DIY Tinker on how to use the Arduino and the program.

    • @hanhang5086
      @hanhang5086 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tuner with Kids Thanks I see. 80-83 from Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, Black. So each run of the code we just change that number at the top of the code to reset the respective counter.
      As a side note, I didn’t realize the chip is the level indicator or what stops the printer. And that we may physically have a lot left despite it saying we are low. Capitalism..

    • @TunerwithKids
      @TunerwithKids  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correct, I would reset next time it says “low toner” before refilling again. Just to get the last drop out of the cartridges.

    • @hanhang5086
      @hanhang5086 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For anyone who is a complete noob to arduino and starting from scratch or no prior experience I hope you benefit from this commentary. I'm impatient and I wanted everything physically come and then deal with hassles later. I successfully updated the microchip.
      In addition to the "Elegoo Uno R3" or other arduino clones you could buy (that comes with USB cable), you will need some wires to connect the board to your cartridge microchip. I bought "DEYUE Jumper Wires Set - 240 pcs" for $6 from amazon and whats nice about it is that they come as batches of 40 wires that are glued or stuck to each other on a flat plane. So you can just rip out 4 of them as a group and not worry about holding 4 separate wires in order but rather in order as left to right and or right to left. It will help when you make contact with the microchip and narrow your choices to 2 rather than 24 (or 4*3*2*1). You ONLY need male-to-male so if you can find just that for cheap that's all you need. This set contains male-to-female and female-to-female in the batch so consider those bonus for other projects. I am confirming this is adequate for anyone without wires just sitting around.
      For the noobs (like me), software can be found at URL for "arduino.cc" and navigate to "software" then "download". Or www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software. Once you download that software, as of August 2020, the version is 1.8.13. To initiate the software (and after connecting your board via USB to Windows 10 PC), click Tools --> Port --> Whatever option that is "Arduino Uno". Mine was "COM3 (Arduino Uno)" and I am assuming you bought an arduino Uno R3 or some clone variation. If you do NOT do this you will get a "board at null" error. Anyways then you can go to Sketch --> Upload the code but make sure the desired color value (80-83) was properly set for the cartridge you intend to reset. If the "Serial Monitor" screen doesn't automatically pop up at this point you can go to Tools --> "Serial Monitor". That should show the output screen. It should run the code once. Let it run and end. If its blank you missed something. Anyways at that point, setup your configuration (i.e. board to printer microchip and physically touch the 4 pins). If you are by yourself, one hand holds the four pins as desired and the other hand can use a pen and click on the red reset button on the board to re-run the code. The contact must be clean and press firmly so that the wires definately connect. Don't want to deal with write errors. After that, you put the cartridge back into the printer. The printer automatically resets the configuration and you will see the bar go from empty to full.
      I am not the least bit an engineer so some of these concepts were foreign to me. But the configuration was simple for the board. You have 4 pins on the cartridge that goes from SCL, SDA, VCC, GND from left to right. Short for Clock, Data, Voltage, and Ground. It connects to the board to A5, A4, 5V, and GND (2nd ground to the right) respectively and yes it will literally state that on the pin receptors on the board. Don't worry, if you are confused just click on the DIY link for picture form. But that's it. Then you hold the wires in the order of SCL, SDA, VCC, GND to the chip and just make sure you don't wobble and loosen it just needs the continuous contact as it writes. The DIY video will show the orientation but as long as you see the long bar on the top left like it has a right eyebrow (you are looking straight at the cartridge as if you were talking to it) then thats the proper order left to right.
      And if you were like me and watching this video first time, I was intimidated by Tuner with Kids pressing down on the board and wondering what the heck he was doing. Its a workaround for the code that automatically compiles and runs on the Arduino board *before* we can physically set up the desired configuration to the microchip (i.e. in position to write to it). And Tuner with Kids was pressing a red reset button to re-run that code at the desired time when we are ready to write to the microchip.

      @@hanhang5086 thank you, this info helped me figure out what I did wrong. I had the ground and 5V wire mixed up on the chip. The ground wire was suppose to be on the far right for the chip and I got it mixed up with the 5V. No wonder when I touch the wire and chip, and then press the reset button, the writing was stuck and didn't do anything else. Also, every time you change the cartridge number, I had to upload it so it'll be fresh on the serial monitor. I wish he recorded doing all 4 so it would make more sense and easier to follow. I had to trouble shoot these issues myself after being confused on why my reset didn't work.
      Thanks again!
