i got a free trailer once because of that. the guy was so pissed that he couldn't get the lights to work that he parked it out by the road with a free sign on it. i brought it home and ran ground wire to all lights and and bingo.. i drove by his house later that evening an he was outside and i honked as i went by with the lights on the trailer and he flipped me off LMAOOOO
My friend, I'm just living your channel. I've been binging on it since I found it a month ago. Please keep up the great work. I can so totally relate to your fine workmanship.
Like Doc Thunder said, here in salty Ontario I always run a ground wire to all the lights and especially the electric trailer brakes. I like the fat wire and the electrical distribution box. Keep on having fun!
If there was an official unofficial mechanical guide to “Just make it work by any means” low buck garage would be the author. I use Nilight all the time on my cart rebuilds. Good stuff.
I did a refresh on my tandem axle trailer last winter. When I pulled the wheels and started inspecting the suspension, I was shocked at how worn it was. It always pulled really nice, but all the bushings were completely shot and the center pivot was even worse. The center hole in the stamped sheet pivot was a long slot instead of the round hole it should have been. I probably had another 3/8" before both would wear through the edge and drop the axle to the ground. The pivots were also rusted through in a couple places. I replaced the pivots with new cast iron ones and put in new shackles and bushings all around. The lesson for me was to inspect my trailer more often even when it seems like everything is working good.
I love this channel. "I use this to haul stuff everywhere. The problem is: i used this to haul stuff everywhere." Low Buck Garage: Hours of unalloyed pleasure. Poor thing, your trailer, has to work so hard for you. Now you took care of him, he will live a few years more and keep up the hard work. One day he will be an old trailer grampa in a trailer retirement facility and tell his grandchildren: "Back in those days, i was with this guy from Low Buck Garage and hauled _all kinds_ of stuff _everywhere in the US_ . I was good friends with a lot of Jeeps then. Everybody knew me, because i was on YT."
Those light gaskets may move easier with a drop of dish washing liquid. Helps with tires and rims too. Take care and fun is the 1st rule; After coffee solves many problems.
I think that those. "Nilight" brand lights will work very well for you, I have been using a pair of Nilight brand LED light for headlights on my ATV for the past three years and they work great and a lot brighter than the original lights. And they draw very low amperage,. So low that I am able to operate them with my factory light switch and wiring, without the need for a relay, all I added was a 5 amp fuse going to each of the lights for circuit protection , but I have never had a issue since the day I installed them. Tim from Wisconsin.
Nice job on the car hauler trailer! AND stoked to see some of that metal getting used to build a bed for the half track. Excited to see you work more on that project soon.
Always a pleasure, gotta say that Sawzall gets a hella workout around your shop! Yea i been running those nilights on my W200/ATV/F350/F250 and my Dodge Raider hold up well even the headlights.
The screws that come with almost everything now are made out of something similar to aluminum, I think. Trailer looks great and is useable like one should be!
Push in on one side of the Led while prying out on the other, then remove the gasket, don’t push the whole grommet through. If you install the grommet, and then the light it pushes in gently. Cheers 🍻
The last pig tail and box I bought, and the same for two other youtubers, the color codes for the wires were not the same as the normal standard. Quite frustrating if wiring per color wire. Same if all are painted gray. Note. Put spare tire on passenger side to be away from driver's door... jeep has no door.. even if had door, it would be 3 feet away from spare. 😁
You are a trip to watch for sure. My grandpa and dad would have loved to have known you and your junky ways. FYI, I notice you force a lot of stuff together which to me is brilliant. If you use dish or laundry soap as a lube, those forces can be a lot less and you wash your stuff at the same time. Soap for thought. Cheers
25:58 As a former trucker who spent countless hours staring at other passing semi-trailers, I thought I'd point out that when located at the rear of the trailer (or near the taillights) side-marker lights ought to be red. Looks like you installed an amber side-marker light here instead. Move that amber side-marker light up near the front of the trailer and it'll look very professional. Nice job overall on the trailer rebuild!
Man this is one of the funnest channels ive come across in a while Man i hope to start my model t inspired utv go cart thing soon then im thinking reproduction jeep body on something like a model a frame or a completely custom frame
New subscriber. Been watching some of your projects. You have some interesting stuff going on. On this one, it was nice that you could find a load of metal already pre-rusted so it will match whatever you use it on. Also like your ability to build something from nothing. Oh, and being cheap myself, I can really relate to that. Thanks for the video!
The lights were probably difficult to remove because the rubber around it was brand new, a hair dryer probably would have saved some time, I think a heat gun would have been too hot for it.
When I knew my spring rates because coilover mcpherson struts came with 5kg/mm rear springs. The calculation is real easy as 2 springs provide 10kg of force per mm it's 1 cm of drop for 100kg euro tow hooks are rated for. Yeah springs hard enough to not have massive body roll in a SUV. Springs hard enough to not drop 15cm with a full load of cargo and passengers like stock softy comfort springs. Very stable in strong gusty wind too but you many will find it uncomfortably hard and I think it's just soft enough to be street driven. (for the weight of that vehicle and having similar spring rates on a much lighter sports car is a but too much).
👍👌👏 Well done again (video and work). Please kindly allow me to suggest that you use soapy water to help with rubber fittings/seals (like you use it while mounting tires). Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health.
I like it! I'm getting ready to upgrade a jet ski trailer to a work platform trailer. You gave me some good ideas like the receiver hitch and wiring box. Good stuff!
Observed your grounding wire mount. Is the bolt ID tight inside the frame? Otherwise I didn’t see that you scuffed paint for bare metal for the washers to ensure a good ground.
instead of taking the chance of breaking the big lights, why not make a bracket that is just a bit bigger that case. weld it to back and drill holes in the plate
My buddy replaced his trailer lights because they didn't work ,then the new didn't work. so he replaced the harness, it still didn't work .then he called me ,I looked it over giving the occasional grunting noise. I raised his trailer up to see that his ball was quite rusty, I cleaned it with a wire wheel and dropped the trailer on . behold the lights worked, he didn't realize his harness didn't have a ground and it only grounded through the chassis .so keep that in mind if your balls dirty clean it.
Carefully organised collection of spare parts 😂😂
*- While you were away from the shop for Thanksgiving we missed you, James.*
In the rust belt frame grounds are your enemy. Dry saltless areas of the world make life easier!
Tie all the taillight grounds to the harness that attaches to the truck , never have a grounding problem agian
@@johndowe7003 what i do with every trailer👍

The trailer looks alot better. The new led lights definitely helped. It will be good to go for awhile now.
I love your winch mount, vice mount idea.
Another fine mess you sorted

Thanks for the info! It didn't look like the bolt heads were moving around in the holes, but I might pop a couple out just to take a look...

Lol my stuff could tell some stories too.

New vids from Low Buck Garage and Complete Toilet Garage in one day. Now that's the full package

Very nice repair and steel haul. I like your "little" pipe wrench.
The jeep is the best upgrade to the trailer.Upgrades to trailer outstanding
And the trailer painted in Rustolium battle ship grey looks great
Thankx!
Weld up a hinge for the tire stops maybe...it could swing down and pin in or not...
Thats a great idea Ben 👍
That train went on forever!
its nice to see someone actually point out some of the weaknesses of the product they are sponsoring.
hi there another great show . the messed up paint gives you a place to aim for , john
This has got to be the best trailer refurbish video on the TH-cams. Thanks for the tongue weight tip.
Resourcefulness at its finest!
Those are common tail lights. I usually take a knife of flat head screwdriver and pop the plastic light out instead of pushing in.
Just found your channel and subbed , your videos are awesome 👍
Thank you!
The tire changer next to the prickly pear may present an issue. I have scares from that cacti.
Enjoyed the video, Thanks, Boe
Great job on the trailer. Low Buck Garage is one of my favorite TH-cam channels, actually, my favorite channel...👍👍
Thank you, I sure appreciate that!
Neat as a ball of spaghetti. This is why I'm here❤
Nilight is GREAT stuff. I use a bunch. Had a self-inflicted issue with some switches and their SUpport was EXCELLENT. Highly recommended.
I love your sense of humor.

You are crazy and hilarious 😂😂😂😂😂. Thank you for the joy you bring into our lives

Got me some ideas for my dove tail HD car trailer. Thank you!

Good tunes & good ideas on trailer , especialy installing some new tires.
Great job with the trailer upgrades James! 🙂👍 Nice steel haul by the way. It helps to source metal when you can for other projects
Thank you!
Those straps are used inside box truck and semi trailers. They have those clip rails everywhere inside.
Paint the tyre treads the same colour as the trailer. That will keep the bed looking tip top!
If I still had my trailer I’d buy those lights. LED is so much better for trailer lighting

@13:43 Sometimes you need a bigger hammer. Other times you can get by with just a longer lever. In either case, NEVER force it!
Nice video. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! I thought the amber lights looked out of place, but they were the color that came with the lighting kit. I appreciate the info!
I just like your style. Great video.
Nice work. I would put reflectors on the sides as well.
Nice work on the trailer.
some nice work there
Cheers

Ziplock bags work good for tiedowns
I’ve got a few different lights from nighlight on my flatbed on my pickup and they’ve worked well so far.
It looks much better,👍, great-job, and thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
Hi , good video , lots of good Info . plus you are a hoot to watch . keep doing what you do .
You got some Canadian steel there. The good stuff eh.
Awesome video! The quick tips were very helpful.
Thanks!
Nice job there! Looks great! Need to makes a whole lotta happen..aka the solo cup! Awesome! Blessings and respect!
Thank you!
Thanks 👍
A little wd 40 or what you have, makes taking out and putting in those lights much easier. nice job !!!
Overhaulin haulin, nice work

You are supposed to put a flat screwdriver between the light and the grommet and pry the light out. I've been doing that for decades.
Put a little anti-slip paint additive in the paint for the runners and ramp. Really helps loading in the rain.
Put clean sand in the paint
Another great video, thanks for posting.
I nearly fainted when you said you bought new tires from a store
i like your stuff, you make normal, fun. thanks.
The lights were probably difficult to remove because the rubber around it was brand new, a hair dryer probably would have saved some time, I think a heat gun would have been too hot for it.
Looks like it will be a great car hauler when you're done
Great vid with some great rapid fire jokes🙂

Flat screwdriver between the light and the rubber and the light pops out easily
Another great video
Always great stuff!!!!
Thanks!
Using soapy water makes installing the lights into the rubber grommets easier
Good stuff! Letttttttssssss gooooooo!
that looks great!!!
Ya...go use the tire changer....right next to the cactus 🌵 👌 😎
👍
Excellent
thing? thing? thing? thing?
indeed, advertising dollars well spent
Its a win
I'm in a fb group where someone got a couple of your green bottle openers. They want to know what the o rings on the openers are for.
Observed your grounding wire mount. Is the bolt ID tight inside the frame? Otherwise I didn’t see that you scuffed paint for bare metal for the washers to ensure a good ground.
How many people yelling @ the screen to pop the light OUT!?
I keep seeing your barrel wind mill. Looks awesome, what does it power?
It was an air pump, today I started working on hooking up an alternator.
Gray ? you didn't have any green left over?
Use glass cleaner on your light box rubber and it will go a lot easier
Hi there, in wich episode you put tracks on that Willys Jeep that appears at the beginning? I don't find it.
instead of taking the chance of breaking the big lights, why not make a bracket that is just a bit bigger that case. weld it to back and drill holes in the plate
Nice
so is that tongue weight before or after you slide those ramps back in?
After, but they're surprisingly light. It wouldn't make much difference.
That was a beautiful trailer. Why did you paint it? Lol
👍👌mint!
