It's arguably faster to drift with. To initiate a drift in AT you break and make a sharp turn hard. In MT, instead of breaking, you can downshift then quickly upshift again. This is moreso the case in the arcade where down/upshifting is significantly faster than physically pressing the break pedal with your foot :)

Manual has a slightly higher too speed, and on controller it’s absolutely faster to run your thumb from A-B/X-O while drifting.
