Thanks for the update however you should clarify that this "brand new mode" is only available to a select few (reviewers and such). The firmware update is not available to the general public (yet). I am excited because currently the headset is locked to 90Hz which my hardware is frequently unable to obtain especially in flight sims, and there is no 60Hz mode on the newer Pimax headsets. 120Hz mode with motion reprojection (60fps from the game, 120Hz on the displays) should be a good experience.
This will help reduce motion sickness and or fatigue in longer sessions. I noticed a difference going from the Index to the G2 and Aero. I now have the 8K X as my main driver and hoping I notice it as well.
It's a shame that early headsets aren't supported. Obviously, they are products of the same name, but the specifications are different. It's unbelievable.
It looks like when you record through the lens at 120 with your phone, it makes the flicker while recording issue disappear. If possible, you might want to try recording future through the lens video at 120 whenever you notice the flicker to see if it helps... or not. LOL. Also, on a different topic, when you watch the video at 1/4 speed playback, the difference between 90 and 120 looks more noticeable to me. It could only be my imagination though.
I can’t tell ya how many times on the pimax 5k+ the 120hz saved my skin in paintball, getting those extra couple of frames before the other guys really does give a level of advantage, but only if your reaction is fast enough to take advantage of it. Unfortunately I’m both rocking a 1080ti and a 2075 8kx so it would be a very expensive ordeal to gain access to this 120hz (but a guy can dream 😭)
I would like to see this also. I hear theses headsets can be very finicky in setting them up to work properly and keep them working. Too many bad reviews on Amazon on these headsets.
Yes, I dont think the average person could really see a significant difference between 90hz and 120 hz. The differences come into play with when things move across your screen very fast, the 120 hz should be able to capture them better. I probably being older than you, would not know the differences either. But I guess it is nice to have that higher refresh rates. It does put more of a load on the VR headset for certain games. Thanks for the video, take care.
Think this has to do with the capture rate of the camera (if the camera records at 60 frames, the 120 frames would be in sync 2:1, but the 90 frames would be out of sync 1.5:1
Mostly people with motion sickness will notice the refresh rate, like me, 90hz is base line acceptable to play in VR, above 100hz is really what you should want for longer play times. With the Pimax 8kx extreme high resolution, getting stable 90fps is challenging. Waiting on RTX 4K, or better gaming engines.
Completely agree with that. Constant 90Hz natively without smart smoothing with very good in-game graphics quality is almost next to impossible. Even with an RTX 3070 Ti and an i9 10900 and 64gb ram. So 120Hz.....

I'd like to know what they use for rfactor 2 large fov and 90 or 120hz. Or what the general use of it is. What are top system pushing to compared to the lower pc system with 2080 to 3080 cards then the new 4080 to 4090 cards.
this headset is a pain in the ass, more time to try to get the thing to work than actually use the thing, if you can get it to work without the thing malfunctioning and the display going out on you, and the tracking doesn't work most of the time, the software fails, the audio doesn't work most of the time, games on Steam end up crashing alot, too expensive for a poorly developed product that is unstable and doesn't work most of the time, Pimax really dropped the ball with this one, their products don't work, there is literally no support from that company on anything, they don't have pride in their products and now they are talking about a 12k headset being released for double the price of the 8kx, and they want to milk consumers for every penny for their junk vr headsets that don't work for anything most of the time, how anyone can advertise this piece of junk saying it is good is beyond me, Pimax will never be nearly as good as Meta or Oculus or Valve by far, their products do what they supposed to and work, now I know after trying out the 8kx with the panels failing after a couple of days after getting it and nothing could fix that at all, firmware updates, checking cable connections, etc, the 8kx dmas is the most unreliable, unstable vr headset that I have ever tried, that is unnacceptable for the cost of the headset, returning this garbage back to Amazon immediately, I definitely learned the hard way with this piece of junk, good thing I ordered it from Amazon and not directly from Pimax, I would of definitely been screwed of money from that shady and crooked company, I think Pimax released a cheap demo testing headset that is known to fail and sold it as a product to consumers, wouldn't suprise me, I'll never trust another Pimax product ever again
I to got suckered by pimax 8kx dmas trying to deal with them is a nightmare did not function right the speakers and mike do not hookup with the systems they had to change things in their code i can get the picture, the sound to the game will not work ! i asked for a refund and they are on a holiday for a week tha will kill my 15 day return
@@kennethmahl2391 that's why I got it from Amazon, after hearing how horrible it is dealing with the Pimax company directly, I returned that piece of junk for a refund back to Amazon no problem, that's the last time I ever buy a Pimax product for sure
Your eye can only differentiate a blinking light at 30hz but your perception of motion can be differentiated at several hundred hz. To me going from 90 to 120hz on my Index felt smoother when moving my hands and moving through the game or turning my head. Everyone is different though and may not notice it as much as others. When playing Skyrim VR I don’t mind using 90hz but when playing Half Life Alyx or Pavlov I feel like I can aim better and more accurately with 120hz.

Agreed, for myself, I also do not notice a difference between 90 and 120hz in my Valve Index.

In through the lens at least to me there's less flicker on the 120hz mode when comparing it to 90hz

Does 120Hz also work in native 4K resolution?
My serial no sticker as worn off, can I find it digital somehow?
Where can i download it? oO When i check for a new firmware on my 2076 ... model i can't seem to find it! :-/
It's not open to public as it seems... Hopefully soon

Technically, the human eye can only see up to 30Hz.
Lol what?
WRONG!!1! only two FPS (one if you are a cyclops)
Well, 30hz for both eyes. So that means 15hz for each eye.
Technically, this is BS.
