The best part with this figure is that he is backwards compatible with the Armada Overload, Energon Ultra Magnus figure and OTFCC Sentinel Maximus figure. It goes to show that they really put a lot of love and thought into this toy that he can combine with a figure from 20 years ago. So if you have Overload, Ultra Magnus or Sentinel Maximus laying around somewhere, it's time to get him into weapon mode and plug him right into Armada Optimus back!

I think the same can be said about Megatron since his waist can be pulled up, just like the original, which could further hint at a possible Tidal Wave. But it makes me wonder if he is backwards compatible with the old Armada/Energon Tidal Wave figure.
Armada Prime was the first one I ever owned. I got it before I even knew what Transformers was. Im not big on getting the big figures because of space, but I will definitely get this eventually

Basically Emgo does a good review gettign to the major details and some size comparisons, but what makes him the best is his fun jokey aditions, like running gags like "And give a great big BBBBBBLLLLLOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". Fromt he opening joke and end skit and his closing saying "Remember you don't stop playing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop playing, be geek, be proud, palm in your face." A great saying, great joke, and overall he's easily the best Transformers reviewer.

That's my one gripe with these armada updated figures. They look great, but are missing their mini-cons. Also IIRC, Starscream's wing doesn't turn into his sword like the original.
@@ArcheTelos IKR, Armada's whole gimmick was the mini-cons unlocking hidden features(just like the Cyber planet keys in Cybertron, and the hyper modes and power links in Energon) So not having the Mini-Cons on the updated Armada figures is really disappointing.

This is a 100% must have for me and many others. I don't think I speak for just my self, but anyone who grew up with the Unicron Trilogy, that this Prime was and still is OUR Prime! So this is a for sure get! Already have my Pre-Order for him. And to anyone who might be considering him, do it, I feel the price of this one will go up quite quick compared to others. Look at Tarn, stupid expensive now only a couple weeks/months after release.

Energon was the first TV transformers I watched then cybertron. I gained interest and nostalgia from the armada series was when I played the Transformers game back on the ps2. Already preordered my copy of this toy along with the armada legacy megatron which I'm waiting for someone to make a video on 😬
Honestly this was my prime, I grew up with the Unicron trilogy at least till cybertron, but I was always more partial to the armada and energon lines. Hoping we get some mini cons like Jolt Sparkplug, Leader-1, and Preceptor. And I always preferred Prime being able to combine, and actually give use to the trailer
Im stupid excited for this to come out for me, got it preordered as soon as i could, im of the opinion that optimus is best optimus when he has a super mode, my all time fave being RID prime, would love to see an updated version
I've never owned the figure, but from I can tell from reviews, when it came out it seemed perfect as it was and the ultra Magnus figure was amazing as well, especially when they combined into omega prime.
Hadn't heard about the issues with Naval Commander but... yikes. Preordered this guy because Commander Class toys seem to have done reasonably well at avoiding clearance sales for the most part (certainly better than the recent Titans, at any rate). Heck, they even re-released SkyJetFire.

Naval commander only had issues on his first run, and they offered replacement parts for everything that was compromised so like… you can fix every problem on a first run copy with the updated fixed parts. Every run since has not had the issues the first run had.
19:56 the small grey pieces on the side above the side skirts are spring loaded buttons to bring the clips closer together to make combining and separating easier and less likely to break the clips over time
I had to have this figure the second I saw it, and I do! love him so much. Armada was the first Transformers cartoon I watched so this is my Prime, and I always loved the super mode look with the gold. Honestly one of the best figures they've put out ever, I wouldn't be surprised if its the pick for the fan favorite of the year.
7:36 The red thing also has a molded in computer screen with a reticle on the back of it to mimic the flip up computer display of the original toy. An easy to miss reference if you’re not looking for it.
Armada was my firsttime seeing a Truck Prime. Coming out of Beast Wars and into the Unicron Trilogy (yes I skipped the OG RID) was an interesting time for me. I was there for the original Armada Prime (though I only owned the Power Links variant) and I can say I prefer this over that any day. While the original had more play features, this one feels more like a toy and less like a base with a forced super mode. The figure was very static and had a tendency to fall over a lot, while I may miss the auto transform feature and the lights and sounds, I'd be very happy to own this guy as he has much more playability to him.
This is one of my most anticipated figures of Transformers this year! I always wanted an Armada Optimus Prime toy but my parents couldn’t find it in stores.
Oof, sorry to hear about your Naval Commander. Haven't had any issue with mine but I pretty much left mine in super mode on my shelf ever since I got him so I'm not sure if he has issues or not. Was looking forward to a comparison but I understand not wanting to mess with it. I still plan on picking up the Commander class version since I love the Armada designs so much and find the mainline figures to be more fun to just mess with at my desk compared to MPs/3rd Parties.
@Megamanlanprime I had to get a whole new arm unit because the left split broke when I first transformed it to super mode. The piece the arm is connected too is a tiny half circle that the base mode uses as a waste swivel.
@@Megamanlanprime Second run and onwards have the fixed plastic, and no other of their releases have the same issues fortunately. I have their Armada Megs and Energon Optimus with the 2nd NC run and they're all great.
Transformers Armada was the last TF series of my childhood. After that, my brain made the full shift into "teenager", and I never had that child-like wonder for new Transformers again. Armada still gives me that warm-fuzzy childhood nostalgia, though, and this Prime definitely puts a smile on my face.

A fan of all these new figures we’re getting but I do miss the old engineering. The old figures use to all have unique shapes and now it’s really not hard to mix and match your lines because all the new figures have the same blocky shape to them.
Man I love everything about this figure! Armada Prime was my first Optimus Prime I ever had (I had the one in the dark grey colors that came with the yellow Overload), so seeing how nice this one is and how awesome he looks makes me want him so bad! Definitely gonna be my first Commander class figure

Hi, Emgo. This is the first time that I've seen Legacy Commander Armada Optimus Prime. Great that Hasbro's releasing another tall and bulky Optimus Prime figure. Despite his unsightly butt flap, Optimus here looks almost screen-accurate while also being sturdy. Fingers crossed that he does go on sale, though, since I might want him on my shelf without hurting my wallet too much. I forgot to mention that Armada Optimus here was voiced by Garry Chalk himself, so that's just prime.

I'm definitely getting this figure. Armada and RID (2001), and a little bit of Beast Machines, were my childhood! Also, Hasbro NEEDS to sell just a big old bloosh pack, if only to fill out all the bloosh points on this guy
ill pick this guy up at some point, always had a soft spot for armada design as its the series that got me into Transformers fully, all i ask now is that they make a armada Jetfire that can powerlink with this prime like in the show
I hate the dark grey plastic they went with on him, but otherwise this is a near perfect figure. I'm happy with the Fans Hobby one I have, but this is a superb alternative.
I really hope they make a new Overload that is compatible. I don't care about Jetfire, Overload just fits more thematically to me. Also, considering we've now gotten Cybertron and Armads remakes, I hope they do Energon cuz that would be neat, especially if they make the limb drones into their own characters.
First armada figure I had was Starscream, was such a massive figure. Still have the original hot shot with jolt mini con. I love the unicorn trilogy figures!
I'm so excited for the inevitable Legacy Evolution Leader Class Overload and/or Jetfire, preferably both. I imagine they'd he similarly hefty to Grimlock, at least in Overload's case
3:29 Even ignoring the glaring QC issues, Hasbro is blowing Fans Hobby away here, FH may have the base, and I could go either way for the Super Mode, but Truck and Robot mode are way, way better.
The one thing that gets me with some toys is that the heels are longer than the toes but they might be needed to stand up even though I just keep the heels of my kingdom tigatron folded in the feet so that the heels aren’t to long. Prime chose not rock paper or scissors but punch.
23:20 *ULTIMATE BLAST!* Needs more Mini-Cons... Got the old Armada Primes by setting Sparkplug on the shoulder (barely, otherwise, set in the back) and Over Run as its blaster.
I made my own Sparkplug by ordering Siege Micromaster Motorhead off E-Bay and swapping his head and torso with Micromaster Ground Hog (same mold) for a uniform yellow color. Unfortunatly my Prime is on an Amazon preorder and not set to ship until early September so I can't confirm how he looks on his shoulder, but the 5 mil plug under it's hood should secure it nicely in place.
I did not grow up with the Unicron Trilogy, but i like this version of Optimus Prime. I grew up with Generation 1. Watching the first series in the mid and late 80s.
I got so excited when i heard this was gonna be comong out, i had the original as a kid and i loved it but over time he got lost so it makes me very happy that ill have this one soon
All we need now in the near future is a Legacy *Energon* Prime. The function of the four PowerLink drones might be in question, but who knows. Could be a Haslab thing, could be not. 🤞 Praying on it.
This is an AMAZING figure no doubt about it, I’d have picked this up if I didn’t have the naval commander, especially since it’s now looking like a whole overload and jet fire combo coming
I feel I went back to 2002 to revisit my childhood, because this figure is gorgeous. Armada introduced me to Transformers, and the original Armada Prime, along with Armada Megatron, were the first figures I’ve ever owned. I’m sort of repeating what I’ve said from your Hot Shot review, but I’m just happy to see some Armada love in this line I do wish the base mode was accurate to the show, but the change to have articulated legs is understandable. And my little nitpick is that I wish the eyes in the super mode were red instead of yellow. But overall, a fantastic figure
Interesting modifications for this version. I still like how the Armada version is. At some point, I'll get the Naval Commander version. I have the fans hobby version of Overload on preorder. I like how they did that. I guess a Jetfire will be next year? Didn't want to compare with Armada Prime or do you still have it? The base mode is lacking. I can't help but want to see the trailer automatically transform ha ha. His legs do look a whole lot better then armada.
It's rough if you just go in with geewun googles, but if you put that aside it's enjoyable on it's own right, energon on the other hand you can skip lol and Cybertron is the strongest of the 3 imo.
Armada has a rough start but once the minicon groups come into focus things start to go up and the story comes in stronger and stronger as you go on. Energon afterwards is rough but not unwatchable as many may say (especially considering less enjoyable series have come out after) it’s one of the few times the post war era is tackled with human collaboration being a major part of the series, gives a Gundam like feel at times if one is familiar. The story has missed opportunities but it doesn’t end up as terrible. Cybertron is a tough one to think about, it was originally planned as a sequel to Energon and even has an outline that fits pretty well into the whole Unicron Trilogy but when given to the studio to make they made it original and not connected (though later on there’s some references that seem to reference Energon and armada) so the dub had to do it’s best to re establish the connection… outside of that Cybertron is definitely the best of all 3 overall from beginning to end, best transformers ending probably
Owning the original, I don't think it's really been falling apart, but good luck getting that original transformation gimmick to ever work again lol. A couple of things. First review I've seen make mention of the smokestacks being able to parts form similar to the original where they were transparent forming a secondary gun. In some reviews the eyes in super mode have been red where as here they're presented as yellow for whatever reason. My guess is customization. As is this will be the first Commander Class figure I think I'll ever own since probably the original Cybertron release though then that was considered leader Class. Really impressed how this update turned out and how much better it is all around than the original. Now if only they could update the Energon design to not look stupid.
Absolutely my favorite commander class figure released so far and my personal Transformers mainline figure of the year. Love how solid it is along with the great ratchet joints. Happy I preordered two from BBTS as soon as it went up.
Just got my copy today and god damn this design has aged like fine wine. I love the armada aesthetic and I look forward to more bots getting the updated treatment.
One of the best parts of the figure? PINNED WHEELS, no cheap & crappy mushroom pegged wheels on this guy, thank Primus I also do really want this guy but that won't be likely as I don't have the funds for big things like this sadly
Just got mine. Love him! I like to fold the butt flap up and sand which the red cannons behind the tank treads . Sure it make a big ole back pack but at least you don’t see the butt flap from the front
On the topic of the fans hobby armada prime, mine broke at the super mode waist and the panel that covers one of the super mode hands was broke when I first transformed it. Overall the plastic feels brittle and cheap on my copy in some places
I've already gotten mine via BBTS. Absolutely love it, easy 9/10. Would be 10 but the super mode has yellow eyes (original show model and toy were red) and its rear skirt piece is a bit messy with that red turret bit. Still, very minor complaints.
It's tragic the Fans Hobby figure is starting to fall apart. Just as well this Evolution figure has turned out as well as it has. I just wish the base mode had a little more going on. Not even having the storage bays in those two large blue pods is weak. And here's hoping they release an Armada Jetfire and Overload next year.

Hi, Emgo. This is the first time that I've seen Legacy Commander Armada Optimus Prime. Great that Hasbro's releasing another tall and bulky Optimus Prime figure. Despite his unsightly butt flap, Optimus here looks almost screen-accurate while also being sturdy. Fingers crossed that he does go on sale, though, since I might want him on my shelf without hurting my wallet too much.
I forgot to mention that Armada Optimus here was voiced by Garry Chalk himself, so that's just prime.
Lol. This one will be sold out indefinitely like Tarn. You'll end up paying much more so just pre order it now.

I've never been a fan of the power up mode on armada Prime, it just kinda looks like a block, but i do love the base mode, and the toy is just magnificent

This is a gorgeous figure, and a great update on the original; as cool as the remote control auto-transformation was, I'll take articulated knees any day!

ill pick this guy up at some point, always had a soft spot for armada design as its the series that got me into Transformers fully, all i ask now is that they make a armada Jetfire that can powerlink with this prime like in the show

It’s amusing that this makes that previous Siege Galaxy Prime utterly worthless by comparison. I’m wavering on whether or not I should get this.
I hate the dark grey plastic they went with on him, but otherwise this is a near perfect figure. I'm happy with the Fans Hobby one I have, but this is a superb alternative.
I really hope they make a new Overload that is compatible. I don't care about Jetfire, Overload just fits more thematically to me. Also, considering we've now gotten Cybertron and Armads remakes, I hope they do Energon cuz that would be neat, especially if they make the limb drones into their own characters.

I'm so excited for the inevitable Legacy Evolution Leader Class Overload and/or Jetfire, preferably both. I imagine they'd he similarly hefty to Grimlock, at least in Overload's case

The one thing that gets me with some toys is that the heels are longer than the toes but they might be needed to stand up even though I just keep the heels of my kingdom tigatron folded in the feet so that the heels aren’t to long. Prime chose not rock paper or scissors but punch.

Needs more Mini-Cons... Got the old Armada Primes by setting Sparkplug on the shoulder (barely, otherwise, set in the back) and Over Run as its blaster.
I made my own Sparkplug by ordering Siege Micromaster Motorhead off E-Bay and swapping his head and torso with Micromaster Ground Hog (same mold) for a uniform yellow color. Unfortunatly my Prime is on an Amazon preorder and not set to ship until early September so I can't confirm how he looks on his shoulder, but the 5 mil plug under it's hood should secure it nicely in place.
He did all the Armada blooshes, the absolute madman.
I did not grow up with the Unicron Trilogy, but i like this version of Optimus Prime.
I grew up with Generation 1. Watching the first series in the mid and late 80s.
With the exception of Rescue Bots, I've seen every Transformers show ever aired. Armada is good
I got so excited when i heard this was gonna be comong out, i had the original as a kid and i loved it but over time he got lost so it makes me very happy that ill have this one soon
All we need now in the near future is a Legacy *Energon* Prime. The function of the four PowerLink drones might be in question, but who knows. Could be a Haslab thing, could be not. 🤞 Praying on it.

This is an AMAZING figure no doubt about it, I’d have picked this up if I didn’t have the naval commander, especially since it’s now looking like a whole overload and jet fire combo coming
I feel I went back to 2002 to revisit my childhood, because this figure is gorgeous. Armada introduced me to Transformers, and the original Armada Prime, along with Armada Megatron, were the first figures I’ve ever owned. I’m sort of repeating what I’ve said from your Hot Shot review, but I’m just happy to see some Armada love in this line
I do wish the base mode was accurate to the show, but the change to have articulated legs is understandable. And my little nitpick is that I wish the eyes in the super mode were red instead of yellow. But overall, a fantastic figure
I really wish the super mode hands worked like commander class jetfire were the ports shifted into the hand when opened

Armada Optimus looks beastly af. I still really want the Legacy Armada Starscream, too.

Interesting modifications for this version. I still like how the Armada version is. At some point, I'll get the Naval Commander version. I have the fans hobby version of Overload on preorder. I like how they did that. I guess a Jetfire will be next year? Didn't want to compare with Armada Prime or do you still have it? The base mode is lacking. I can't help but want to see the trailer automatically transform ha ha. His legs do look a whole lot better then armada.

It is quite a show and has one of best Starscreams.
...And then there is Energon, that peaked at Shockblast.
It's rough if you just go in with geewun googles, but if you put that aside it's enjoyable on it's own right, energon on the other hand you can skip lol and Cybertron is the strongest of the 3 imo.
Feel free to watch it. Energon meanders a lot...Cybertron gets fun again. But always remember, G1 had a lot of dud episodes too.
Armada has a rough start but once the minicon groups come into focus things start to go up and the story comes in stronger and stronger as you go on. Energon afterwards is rough but not unwatchable as many may say (especially considering less enjoyable series have come out after) it’s one of the few times the post war era is tackled with human collaboration being a major part of the series, gives a Gundam like feel at times if one is familiar. The story has missed opportunities but it doesn’t end up as terrible. Cybertron is a tough one to think about, it was originally planned as a sequel to Energon and even has an outline that fits pretty well into the whole Unicron Trilogy but when given to the studio to make they made it original and not connected (though later on there’s some references that seem to reference Energon and armada) so the dub had to do it’s best to re establish the connection… outside of that Cybertron is definitely the best of all 3 overall from beginning to end, best transformers ending probably
Owning the original, I don't think it's really been falling apart, but good luck getting that original transformation gimmick to ever work again lol. A couple of things. First review I've seen make mention of the smokestacks being able to parts form similar to the original where they were transparent forming a secondary gun. In some reviews the eyes in super mode have been red where as here they're presented as yellow for whatever reason. My guess is customization. As is this will be the first Commander Class figure I think I'll ever own since probably the original Cybertron release though then that was considered leader Class. Really impressed how this update turned out and how much better it is all around than the original. Now if only they could update the Energon design to not look stupid.
Base prime definitely didn’t skip chest or shoulder days. Super mode catches the rest of his body up to those gains.
Absolutely my favorite commander class figure released so far and my personal Transformers mainline figure of the year. Love how solid it is along with the great ratchet joints. Happy I preordered two from BBTS as soon as it went up.
Just got my copy today and god damn this design has aged like fine wine. I love the armada aesthetic and I look forward to more bots getting the updated treatment.
I wish they could've painted the headlights by adding some blue and maybe some orange for indicators, that would've made it perfect!
The blaster is what pleases me the most.
One of the best parts of the figure? PINNED WHEELS, no cheap & crappy mushroom pegged wheels on this guy, thank Primus

NGL, seeing this review has my wishing they'd do Armada Jetfire at some point. Optimus needs his jet pants. Oh, and Overload for maximum BLOOOSH.

Just got mine. Love him! I like to fold the butt flap up and sand which the red cannons behind the tank treads . Sure it make a big ole back pack but at least you don’t see the butt flap from the front

I had the original, the trailer/base/legs swapped via motors. It worked precisely five times. I understand why they scrapped that feature.
On the topic of the fans hobby armada prime, mine broke at the super mode waist and the panel that covers one of the super mode hands was broke when I first transformed it. Overall the plastic feels brittle and cheap on my copy in some places

I've already gotten mine via BBTS. Absolutely love it, easy 9/10. Would be 10 but the super mode has yellow eyes (original show model and toy were red) and its rear skirt piece is a bit messy with that red turret bit. Still, very minor complaints.
It's tragic the Fans Hobby figure is starting to fall apart. Just as well this Evolution figure has turned out as well as it has. I just wish the base mode had a little more going on. Not even having the storage bays in those two large blue pods is weak. And here's hoping they release an Armada Jetfire and Overload next year.
