    The superwash has a mushroom in a dark forest feel, the non superwash feels like dappled light in a forest clearing. Love them both!!

    I absolutely love the non-superwash results! It always amazes me when mixing 'opposite' colors doesn't give brown, Science!

    I love the videos where you have to think about why the results are the way they are, it would be interesting to try it again but with only two colours that have a wide discrepancy of how fast they strike. All that being said the non superwash yarn is totally my jam, love how it worked out.

      I would have done just royal purple and emerald green but I've used those so much together lately that I was trying to shift the colors to be something different. :D And give myself something I didn't know quite what it would be. I'm getting closer to working my way through all of these older dyestocks I made up!

      @@ChemKnitsTutorials I can definitely understand that, I just am intrigued as to the differences in how they yarns bind the colours! I do love the chaos mixing of colours because despite spending years in an art room I still am astounded at the outcomes of the mixing of the dyes.

    Having all the different dyes with different adhesion rates really makes this experiment fascinating! It's cool to see the differences between one color (which may or may not break), or even a really simple mix, but this really has so much complexity. It's so cool how these two bases are really similar in some ways and very different in others!

    I think I like the greener nonsuperwash better colorwise.
    I love cake dyeing, you never know what you're gonna get.
    Sometimes I let it dry & recake with the inside on the outside, then use a slightly different color.
    I've learned that winding twice gives a "better" cake & the yarn isn't "stretched"....but... I wind in opposite directions each time, I found that both times in the same direction really twists the yarn.

      Dyeing a yarn cake twice from both ends is SO MUCH FUN!

    Love the final colorways. Yarn bases are the ultimate variable! My take away: if knitting for a person who might fall into water, use non superwash for everything, socks included!

    Both are lovely. I think I like the non-superwash more on this one.

      I love when that happens. It is really the only way to get pastel speckles on a darker base

    love the surprise element of yarn dyeing ... love the pink one especially, I thought for sure with all the mixing it would mostly turn out muddy so this was delightful. Have not experimented with this method at all, on my list.

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials

      I will admit I was trying to make thigns a bit muddier - or at least feeling different from my favorite royal purple + emerald green combination.

    Wow, that was awesome! ❤ I’ve never seen a yarn cake died like that before. 🎉 Hey, do you ever dye wool fabric like is used in rug hooking? I’d love to see a video on that sometime!😊

    I love cake dyeing!
    I can't remember -- have you tried cake dyeing where you use something heavy inside the yarn cake to keep it submerged throughout the dyeing process?

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials

      I don't remember if I used a pasta insert to keep it down during one of these or not. I feel like I have pushed one down, but I don't remember.

    That was a helpful video. I’m wondering how a sock yarn with nylon would affect things? Do you think nylon absorbs dye quicker than wool or about the same? Thanks for this video!

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials

      I haven't observed any big differences between a 75/25 sw merino/nylon vs 100% nylon. At least not that I atributed to fiber content directly. I think the nylon absorbs dye similarly to the wool.

    Super wash vs nonsuper wash Wilton's violet?

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials

      Ooooo yes! I'm not sure if I've done that exactly with the title, but I did learn a LOT about superwash vs non from wilton's violet.
      In this video th-cam.com/video/ClGp_jLvMag/w-d-xo.html I noticed that some colors were striking faster than I expected... and i didn't rewatch to see if I was confused or not at the time.
