The Darnells live in an actual Agatha Christie novel...i expect Poirot to walk into the room at any given moment! I am envious in every way!
same
Right? It's very 'Death on the Nile'
Hahaha so true!
Ok I got a 3 way vibe...I am sooooo sorry!!
Either Christie or THE GREAT GATSBY. Yep. Lol. 😊
If my spouse doesn’t aggressively nod in support while I’m speaking I don’t want it
I laughed out loud at this comment!
I laughed so hard🤣🤣🤣
Lol 🤣
If my spouse can't perfectly pronounce "Jean Francois Champollion" three times fast without missing a beat, I'll probably still want it but I'd be mildly disappointed. 😅
Aaaaahahahahahaaa
There's just something so amazing about two people who were meant for one another discussing the subject which they are both so passionate about! I would just love so much to go round for afternoon tea or something and see their beautiful home and learn about different aspects of ancient Egypt and find out more about whatever their current research areas are
I totally agree
Egyptcore
My aesthetic since childhood 😂
@@sitamun7598 LOL me too.... ever since that episode of Sesame Street when Bert and Ernie are featured in a sarcophagus I believe..... as least I recall Ernie in pharaoh attire! I remember asking my dad, "What is this all about and who is King Tut?"
th-cam.com/video/8yiqGtZXCmQ/w-d-xo.html Here is the link to it! LOL It's so cute to see now.
U rock that hair cuttt u both are stunning and so interesting
If Morticia and Gomez were Egyptologist ( I’m not saying it in a bad way )
I don't know anyone who would take this as an insult.
yesssssss
How dare you put my dream relationship so succinctly 😂
Being compared with Morticia and Gomez should be taken as a compliment
They are the role model fictional power couple that most people dream to have. It's a compliment.
I’m going to study egyptology! I never thought I would actually get to do it. Thank you for inspiring me, and showing how amazing it can be to be an egyptologist. My courses start this monday. Im so exited!
You should document it! Id love to read a blog or what a vlog about what its like getting into that field! I think a lot of people would find it interesting to :)
Watch a vlog**
How did you enroll in it? Is it on a webpage?
dajapa no i’m studying at the university of Leiden. They are internationally ranked in egyptology studies. Somewhere in top ten i think. (Although i doubt there are many universities that have egyptology studies)

I love her look.. She's like miss fisher from "Miss Fisher's murder mysteries"
Oh my god I'm in love with this show, you are the comment referencing to it that I was looking for
Yes, that's what my brain was trying to figure out. She's a real-life Phryne Fisher! 😮
These two were clearly meant for each other, I love this so much
Every time she suggested a future video was like "YESSS PLEASE!"
"We'll have to do SEVERAL, Several episodes on the origins of writing in Egypt"
YES! YES PLEASE!!
My house was like this as a kid. My dad was obsessed with Egypt!!! Fun to see other people with an Egyptian themed house lol.
Only a unique man would see a truly unique woman and vice versa.
I just love the way her husband hangs on every word she says like it's the most important words he'll ever hear. They're so aspirational as a couple 🖤🖤🖤
Hi John and Colleen,
I just wanted to let you know how inspiring your videos have been for me! Today I finished my Australian 12th grade Ancient History final exam and used your “Ancient Egyptian Netherworld Books” as a modern source in the 18th Dynasty Egypt section. You have encouraged me to keep pursuing my passion for Egyptology and now I have accepted an offer to study archaeology at university next year. Please keep sharing, you are both so inspirational! 😊
I didn’t know you had a channel, now subscribed. I love history. I first saw you on Rachel Maksy’s channel and thought you were fabulous. I can’t wait to learn something new from you
Ditto that entire comment for me!
That's how I got here!
I love how you both look at each other when one or the other is speaking. So much attention given and taken despite the fact you both know so much about the same subject. Love your asthetics and your passion for what you do. Thank you for the video tour!
I simply adore your channel!! I’m studying classics at university and as soon I finish my thesis I’ll study Egyptology for my phd thanks to you. You inspire me so much 😭 Thank you!! Awesome video
That is wonderful to hear - best of luck in your studies!
I can't believe this channel is still so underrated
The channel is less than a year old...dunno how it can "still" be underrated but just give it time! She's awesome, her husband is awesome, she'll surely do well.
It is so nice to learn about people who can appreciate the elegance of 1920s-50s fashion, your 1920s attire looks amazing on you, it is like watching a female time traveler in full color!
You are so lucky to have acquired 1920s clothing in such a great state of conservation.
My grandmother's was just a kid in the 1920s and she didn't have these type of clothing but she left a huge wardrobe and footwear from the 1940s-60s which I was able to save from being thrown away by my sister! A few dozens of Schiaparelli, Dior, Adrian, Irene dresses (so gorgeous!) among several high end brands that all survived in pristine condition. I have not been able to convince my wife to wear them, since she is the same size my granma was, I've told my wife those dresses are the epitome of high end fashion from the era, most of them bought at Bullock's Wilshire where my granma used to shop and spend time back in the 1940s-60s
I specially love the Adrian dresses, they have lots of geometrical shapes and the patterns are amazing, some are made like in a sort of jig-zaw puzzle assemblage, with little pieces of cloth sewn to give incredible shape to a dress.
If I ever convince her of wearing she would look like straight out of the 1940s because the dresses and shoes look like new, my granma hated to wear the same dress more than twice, hence the huge wardrobe she amassed despite having gifted many to charity.
Stellar video. And it has to be noted that John's eyebrows are fantastic.
I love how the printed fabric is so harmonious with the wall paper! A seemingly minor thing, but lovely!
The only house tour I've ever wanted to watch! Thank you!
Their enthusiasm for Egypt draws the listener in and they give us wonderful nuggets of information. Thank You John and Colleen Darnell.
Im not jelous of all this Celebs, Kim K, tik tokers with their small waist... Im JELOUS of this woman, like, i admire her so hard, shes so unique. 🥺🥺🥺
Word. She's by far the most attractive woman this side of The Field of Reeds. Charming, brilliant, funny, gorgeous, stylish, passionate. Perfect.
Thank you, Doctors Darnell. Engaging, educational, and entertaining, as always. Your home is beautiful, elegant, and inviting, simply splendid. It leaves me with the impression I could spend a day in each room even before I made it to the library, out of which you would eventually have to drag me. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Looking forward to your next.
You guys make me feel like I'm back in third grade sitting in the Egypt section of a museum being taught by an excited guide, in the best way.😃
I love learning from people who really know and love their area of study, like you guys.
I loved this video. What an amazing job you’ve done of describing the layers upon layers of Egyptian art throughout the ages, how it changed to meet cultural demands and ideologies, and the origin story. I love the linguistic aspects. It’s refreshing. You breath life into this subject. Your house is amazing! You’re the top! You two are adorable and engaging!
Love your dress, Colleen! I noticed that the candle in the dining room was a mummy. Fascinating!
Love Colleen's flapper walk!
Y’all are my favorite Egyptologist
Could you make a video about the clothes/fibers/fabrics that would have been worn and used in Egypt?
Oooooh this is all I've ever wanted
So happy I found this channel. Saw Colleen on another channels video, and fell in love with her 1920-30s style and doesn’t hurt that I love ancient Egypt as well. Looking forward to going through the videos! Learned a lot of new things from just this one. I’m so excited
Would love to see you do a review over the accuracy of Assassin's Creed Origins Ancient Egypt walkthrough tours!! :)
You two are AMAZING! You're home is stunning and I could spend hours in conversation about Egyptology and the histories of the ancient world.
Their standing knowledge is apreciable, thanks mr and mrs!
What a beautiful home! It reflects your knowledge and love for antiquities and history! You and your husband are a perfect team! Thank you so much for sharing! 🙏💖
What a fabulously glamorous intellectual couple.... loved this video. I was transported.... and that’s a particularly welcome feeling at this strange time 🐍
Don't know why but your videos always put a smile on my face! Great job great lifestyle kudos guys!
I love when you talk about hieroglyphs, i could listen for hours! Its really fascinating also because i studied and specialized in roman and medieval paleography, so seeing another "part" even older narrated so beautifully is just a dose of serotonin please dont stop!!! (also thank you for reminding this old soul why i love ancient egypt so much)
Thank you for giving us a glimpse into your gorgeous home, and for making it educational !
So glad I found your videos. They help me to understand more and explains clearly about egyptian history. Egyptology is so interesting. Thank you so much
Thank you for inviting us into your home and sharing such amazing history with us!
I just love everything about this. Between the knowledge and the nostalgic vibes it is so appealing.
This couple Wins ! You two are amazing and should have your video's as compulsory watching in school !
how cute they look is like having a time machine
If I'm not mistaking, I saw you guys in a documentary called Lost Treasures of Egypt! So interesting, I am so glad I found this channel. I'm watching a documentary series about ancient China now, which is also incredibly interesting. Please keep making videos, I like your style and the way you speak about all this makes me want to learn more.
I love your style and your knowledge. So glad I've discovered you.xcxc love from an old English great grandmother x
These two are just so incredibly interesting. Their devotion to all acient Egyptian is astonishing! I thought I knew a lot. HA! Colleen has me hooked with her attention to details. She and her husband love for the fashion of the 1920s knocks me out! I can't stop taking into account the all the interesting pieces of history. My knowledge was anemic! Literally just Subscribed.
🙌🏾👏🏽🙏🏽❤❤
You two are living the life I always wanted. I love these videos!
You two have such a lovely home. And I hope there'll be more home tours, I loved, loved, LOVED hearing about all these items.
i wish i had teachers like this for social studies in school id definitely have all of my attention locked on how they dress flawlessly like the 20s like okay damn they know their shit they dont gotta tell me once
I believe, if I'm not mistaken, that the "& cie." part of French company names is the equivalent to English "& co." So the "cie" stands for "compagnie."
I'm french and you are right 👍
Thanks!! Wow learn something new everyday
Renaissance egyptomania that involves two of my favorite things egypt and renaisance.
you are awesome. I am taken by your enthusiasm.
I wish I met you wonderful couple way back when I was in grade 7, I was so in love with ancient egypt anything😍😍😍
The hallway at the beginning reminds me of the Dursley's house, down to the flowery wallpaper and the carpeted stairs
yep
i cant wait for the next house tour video :) it would also be amazing if you could make a video about both ancient Egyptian fashion (because there are so many stereotypes and misconceptions) and also your 1920s egyptologist styles
I love this channel. I get to appreciate good aesthetics and learn about something I didn't know much about! Those are my two favorite things!
Thank you so much for this romp around the house video. You both have a wonderful way of presenting the information and I really enjoy the interesting side stories like the vulture story. This must take a lot of work to create and makes me appreciate your efforts even more. I am eagerly looking forward to the next great video!
Thank you so much for sharing this with us, it's truly fascinating. The passion you two have for ancient Egypt is what makes me eager to learn more. Can't wait for more videos.
So happy I found this channel! Fantastic!
I love this:this is how I imagined of a young Miss Marple was but with a twist (she is an egyptology investigator/detective now). Looks like a time capsule.❤❤❤❤❤
I love that it’s more than a tour. So beautiful!❤️
If I lived in such a historic home I would live in one area on the middle of the floor because I’d be so paranoid about staining something or destroying history you guys are awesome you don’t just study history you live in it
What a wonderful channel! I’m so happy to have stumbled upon it a few months ago. So full of knowledge in an area I knew very little about.
As always you are both fabulous and this was such a great video, thank you so much! I always look forward to your content
Nice... Interesting house tour, and love the history.
OK, I've no idea how this came up on my feed but this is TH-cam algorithm gods at their best.
New subscriber!
I would not mind a lecture on post WW1-artists or during the Weimar republic, such as Otto Dix, even though it is completely off topic, Colleen also teaches art history, maybe she should start an art history channel too! :) I would watch that!
Listen, I need more content from you. Please. I really enjoy listening to you both whilst I do mundane things. Your home is a dream!
More to come!
Many of the headstones at the Grove Street Cemetery absolutely have Egyptomania influences. It might be worth having a tour there and showing some pieces and observing the beautiful artistry. You have a beautiful home rich with history, it’s like waking up in a story!
Wonderful house you guys have! Egypt is all around ! Many thanks
My former professor Jaclyn Kerner would greatly appreciate that you did include the Arab-Islamic records and their importance in preservation of the ancient histories. I also find it very educational, everything that you have presented here, which confirms a lot of my own self-education and studies when I was in college during my non traditional years (I went to college ages 27-34). Although I have a Bachelor in art history, the symbology of the hieroglyphs being used in alchemical works of John Dee were not included in formal courses and I did have a great deal of vivid memories and imagery of that time period surrounding Elizabeth which then led to me discovering John Dee and Edward Kelly's work involving Egyptomania. I'll be returning to this video to absorb more information since this is essentially a semester lecture compressed into 26 amazing minutes.
Thank you for such an engaging and fascinating tour and discussion. Looking forward to part two.
Fascinating... ,thank you very much for your kind hospitality🍀💗, it is truly charming way to learn more about Egyptians inspirations in art. Love this project 💗🍀🌻😘
YASSSS!! In every video I've watched, I've been spying on all the cool and vintage-y things on the walls, furniture, paintings. Gorgeous.
The stuffed Tutankhamen in his little soup tureen I can’t hahaha
I've seen you in a Documentary on Disney Plus.. Ever since then I love your Love for Egypt.
This is incredible, thank you for sharing your amazing knowledge. Absolutely fascinating and you are both a joy to watch. Cheers!
I was indescribably happy when I saw this video ☺️ (may have clapped my hands a little and giggled)
I have been waiting so long to see this! Both of you have exceptional taste.
This is amazing! I just sae your video on Rachel's channel and I discovered that you made your own. Life, prosperity and health!
9:01 i LOVE that open fireplace! AND those wonderful chairs!
This is going to be amazing, I know it!
Thank you for yet another interesting and educational episode.
Very interesting. You had me spell bound listening with fascination.🤗🤗💚💚
I absolutely love your videos! Thank you again.
This place is beautiful! Imagine playing Call of Cthulhu in they're house.
I had an Egyptian/Roman/Greek/Ancient World obsession in high school and watching your videos bring back so many great memories. ; u ; It was also fueled by lots of Percy Jackson lol
thank you for creating these amazingly informative videos!!!!
I have always been fascinated with Ancient Egypt. To see and learn about a people that lived so long ago, and the art was pretty and the jewelery of gold and lapis...I just loved to learn about it.
I went as Cleopatra for Halloween when I was in the 6th grade. I had my mom walk behind me with a boombox blaring music from Cecil B DeMille's Cleopatra movie as I made my way down the hall to my classroom 🤣
Just last year I went to NY for the first time and spent 4 hours at the MET Museum looking at their collection. It's so beautiful and wondrous.
Someday, I'd like to visit Egypt and see the Pyramids with my own eyes. Or take a boat down the Nile...it would be a dream come true!
I'm so happy to have found your channel! Thank you for sharing your passion!
Wow! You two are so great! I have been a lover of all things Egyptian since I was little. Love your style and your explanations - looking forward to more videos!
Thank you so much for your channel! Ive always loved egyptology and actually was honored to be able to see the King Tut exhibit at the 1983 World's Fair in Knoxville, TN. Again, thank you. You are so very interesting and your vintage clothing is beautiful!
Their video takes me out of today’s world and turns me into a time traveler.
I knew I wanted a vid that taught me something, but also one that was charming, energetic and cheerful - found it! thanks :)
I love this channel!
I love all of this! This channel is pure gold! Love it!
This is nothing short of amazing, in every way. Thank you so much.
Your 1920's clothing is spot on! Drop-waisted dress and flapper style bob. Even John's men's suit and hair cut, wingtip shoes and knickers. Great details.
