Matt, first of all outstanding weathering on your locamotives, and superb scratch built work on both buildings my friend. There is nothing more satisfying then scratch building your own stuff!!!
Cheers Joseph. This loco had two custom jobs done to it. I separated the numberboards and headlights and added beacons once I got the new ESU direct board. Speaker upgrade too. I heard Tim's (Seaboard Central) and new i needed the speaker upgrade. Really pleased with how it turned out.
Matt my sincere compliments on not only your layout, but your steel industry as well. It's very refreshing to see someone who likes to scratch build. Awesome video and regarding your mistakes, as long as you are having fun that is all that matters.
My layout isn't much I'm afraid but thank you for thinking so. I'm slowly adding pieces that I know I'll be able to use on my next layout. I concentrate on structures built on their own bases, locos I love and rolling stock. I hope to bring it all together one day. Now if I can just figure out the electronics under the table!
That open-sided building is inspired. I have not seen that before. The simple interior really works for me, you don't want many things in the way of the hand of God. Here's a thought. Electromagnet w on/off and some servos could PU a load and drop on cars. Final Grade: Excellent.
Morning Blaine. Thanks very much. Yes, I haven't seen many buildings like this either. We usually slice them and place against the backdrop or slice and continue the facia. I was inspired by the video I saw of this building in operation and thought it would be cool to place the interior view at eye level as though you were standing in the warehouse portion watching the train and truck action at the far end. The interior may look simple and clean but I'll tell you that this building is about 3x the work that our normal exterior-facing buildings are. Quite the challenge and lots of figuring to get it to come together. Thanks for watching
Hi Matt. Long time coming but worth the wait. I love your BC power. The ones I see on VR are heavily weathered, so your stuff is proto typical. Have a good summer and I'll be looking for the next video.
Thank you Paul and good to hear from you. Those BC Rail engines were my first real challenge with weathering. Was afraid to touch them actually. I learned quite a bit doing them and a especially proud of the toaster burn! I hope you summer is going well so far. Happy belated Fourth of July to you!
Super job on the locomotives. That switcher is absolutely awesome. Those LED's are just out of this world. You really know what your doing!! Thanks for uploading!
Matt!, you are one talented man! I just came across your channel and have subbed. When I first saw the into engine I thought they were weathered by Rob Arsenal or Wade Kelly. Wow, It's all yours Awesome transload facility! great way to show it from the inside! My son Adam is part of the Silver Creek layout and has been instrumental in helping Wade install the signaling install and computer programing. I am as Wade put it "An Honorary Member" I've been up there several times to replace any of the benchwork and I am building a couple sets of the pier silos and a couple grain silos for the branch line .We just finished the Facial boards too. I hope to meet you one day when I am there! Cheers ! Earl
Hi Earl. I met your son Adam a few weeks ago. He helped me get sorted during my first ops session. I've worked with Wade most recently on his latest work (the 48" fan GP9RM). Got a few more '38s in the weathering stages now. They should appear over the next month or so in a few ops videos I'm planning. I'm sure I'll bump into you in the future. Will be nice to meet you
Just came across your layout and this will indeed be a beautiful one to follow (subscribed obviously). The building you switched looks absolutely fantastic! Amazing scratch build!
Aw thanks Doug. This layout won't be getting that kind of love as it is just a temporary holding place. I suppose some of the landscaping around the buildings... thanks for watching as usual!
Fantastic session Matt the scratch build turned out awesome. Glad you had fun up at the club it was great seeing you again. Keep up the fantastic work. Till the next time keep it on the tracksss 😎🚂🫵
Man that is awesome and seeing it in operation is super realistic! I don’t think there is one modeler that doesn’t make mistakes lol. After all that’s part of the fun indeed! 😂 great job 👍
Thanks very much Gene. With only one track in and out, this building has been quite the challenge to operate. I think that's a good thing as long as the track works well. It wasn't when I first set things up. Thanks as always
matt... nice stuff !!!! first, i noticed you said the flashing cab lights were not prototypical... let me say this... they look great, especially when flashing on the back wall inside the facility !! also, prototypically speaking, a real crew would like to have them as more flash means a safer working environment in a building that could possibly have multiple employees walking around, especially with the loud noise a truly enclosed metal sided building like this would have during switching ops. being a retired industrial safety engineer for the federal government, there would probably be several other things that would be in place prior to the loads arrival, like open discussion w/ employees at the morning pre-job briefing about the loads arrival, facility owned "safety" blasts of a horn/alarm prior to engine entry into the facility, wall/ceiling flashing lights during entry, safety spotters at all entrances/exits that do not allow ANY worker into the facility other than the rr crew, and, regardless of employer ( facility or rr ) hard hat w/safety vests in all areas would be mandatory !! as well, after the a.m. daily pre-job briefing, all workers would be required to sign off on an iwp ( industrial work permit) denoting they understand the requirements of the days work and agree to abide by the rules denoted in that iwp !!! excellent work, matt, absolutely excellent !!
Wow, awesome explanation of how its done. I did high voltage testing and maintenance in my summers while in university and remember those site briefings vividly - especially the seriousness of the voltage we were dealing with. WRT to this building, it is possible to include a red flashing light at either end when a train approaches. I may just do that. Thanks for stopping by and I appreciate your feedback. Cheers Dennis.
Only if the bottom rolls are in a cradle and only in areas off limits to people. The storage area for TransCare is fully automated. I've seen them 3 high.
@@mattw9667 Thank you for watching! I've really been enjoying the work and am constantly motivated by all the other great layouts I see on TH-cam, including yours!
Sure thing. The green is landscaping wire from the dollar store. I used it to pack out the wooden spool. The red wire is meant to represent underground cable. The green spools aren't finished
I usually use 0402 or 0201 warm white LEDs. I get the ones with super thin magnet wire because it looks like the conduit when you paint the wires black.
Oh Joe. I bought the boxcar that was it's starting point. Was a yellow Atlas UP boxcar. Have a look down my video list or search 'Transfer' in my vids.
Both cranes are on code 55 rail. The gantry slides back and forth and so do the cranes themselves. They don't wind however. That was a step too far. The smaller crane fits in bay 1 or bay 2.

@mattw9667 hey Matt, really looking forward to what you come up with on your Layout i look forward to your progress my friend.
Thanks again Mike. I may take a cue from @KandWRailroader and put together a choice of two builds. Let the viewers choose which gets built next.
Beautiful job on that steel facility !!!
Thanks very much Alfred 😀
That’s a great looking structure….the locomotives look excellent.
Thanks very much Jay. Hope you had a good 4th of July.

@@mattw9667 Rapido trains makes a uncoupler magnet that works when you push a button. mount it under the track.
