A breakaway faction of Khmer Rouge, under the leadership of Sok
Pheap, has recently succeded in pushing hardline supporters loyal
to Pol Pot from an area northwest of the city of Palin.
More than 200 soldiers, commanded by Sok Pheap teamed up with
guerrillas near the town of Phun Bong for their offensive.
The faction seeks to renegotiate a peace settlement with the
government of Phnom Penh

The Khmer Rouge army 1975-1978 attacked the Vietnamese border, killed 3,000 Vietnamese civilians in the border provinces, the Vietnamese army fought with the Khmer Rouge and fled to the Thai border. China supplied weapons from 1970 to 1989 to fight Vietnam from 1979 to 1989 the United Nations provided money and guns to the remnants of the Khmer Rouge.
