One of my favourite overtures, wild, erotic and full of unique melodies, brilliantly orchestrated. The French orchestra here sounds fresh and virtuous, Chung understands the composer and delivers an outstanding performance.

Lebhafte und wunderschöne Aufführung dieser romantischen Ouvertüre mit gut harmonisierten und perfekt vereinigten Tönen aller Instrumente. C'est une merveille que j'ai eu le bonheur de découvrir alors que j'avais à peine 10 ans par un disque 33 tours publié par la guilde internationale du disque vers 1957

c'est la seule œuvre de ce 25 cm 33tours minutes de la guilde que j'aimais écouter ( disque que j'ai toujours ) ,
c'était en 59 , j'avais 5 ans et mon père me laissait utiliser seul, le tourne disque ( T - D de la " guilde " aussi ! )
@@ericdupont1326 Et le solo de cor anglais...c'est divin ! quel bel instrument. A ce propos, un prof de clarinette et bois divers nous a appris qu'à l'origine, cor anglais s'écrivait cor anglé, étant donné que si le tube n'avait pas été coudé (anglé), ce serait trop loin pour les mains du musicien. Et pourquoi cor ? ça, il ne l'a pas dit alors que c'est un bois et non un cuivre.
My expierence with this composer I had with the Symphony Fantastic with Lorin Maazel on Polydor , my favourite Recording , e v e r ❗️❣️❗️❤️❗️❣️❗️ He made me a FAN of BERLIOZ a life-time off ALL his Works ❗️❣️❗️ 🎧

Never heard this piece before but it's very nice. Berlioz always knew how to devise a cathartic, but stylish. ending: the lingering, triumphant brass chord after the sharp string attack is rather lovely.

6'.05 : Je retrouve ENFIN, 65 ans plus tard, l'indicatif musical qui accompagnait le texte : TELEVISION FRANCAISE, avec son pseudo reflet, qui apparaissait lors de l'ouverture des émissions télévisées dans les années cinquante !! ... Belle invention Internet !!....

Played a tad bit too fast! It ruins Berlioz' wonderful sonorities.
It is richly sonorous.

Agreed, the tempo is a little too fast. Wonderfully played though.
