    Ok, I know these type of comments have already started appearing here, but before more do, let me just put this out there. If any of you are thinking, "OMG so lame, not music, simple shit, I can do this, boring, etc.", you guys should understand music is not always about technical skill or crazy progressions, or catchy melodies. It's also about atmospheres, textures and ambiences as well, which is exactly what they are doing here. Pardon my ignorance, I don't know much about Taylor Deupree and his work, but Ryuichi Sakamoto is a classically trained pianist, and can play it really damn well(he can whip out crazy keyboard solos if he wanted to). But that is not the purpose of this project, or even quite a few of his other recent works, he's exploring the other aspects of music beyond the conventional senses, and of course he would, he's been in the music industry since the 1970s and been involved with quite a lot of genres of music. Don't be so quick to judge ambient music and it's performance, I too used to think that way sometime ago, but once you actually "get it" it will lead you to some incredible mental trips. Try not to analyse it, but to experience it.

      I couldn't say it better ! Bravo Gizmotechno, that's true.

      "Try not to analyse it, but to experience it." This is exactly how everyone should approach ambient music (and music in general)

    • @TomasGonzalezOrtega
      @TomasGonzalezOrtega 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it should be way important make the difference between judging and analyzing. When I studied contemporary music there were several studies, you read about them and then...when you have an idea of the thesis behind this work jump into it. Of course some works pursues exploration and that would be exactly the case, but in general one must do the analysis first, and then sit and enjoy ^_^
      All this approaches have tons and tons of research. If not yet read, my suggestion would be try any of the adepts of Spectralism, Books and works from Helmut Lachenmann and it will probably help you to get a more clear grip of whats going on here :)

      i agree 100% but what i would like to add
      is that you need crazy amounts of skill to do such microtones music. it needs tremendous attention on details, aesthetics and genius of music in general

      @local-teen 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think it's fair to say the same logic used to dismiss ambient music is used to belittle abstract painting. It's that super trite argument that it took five minutes to do and requires no skill, etc. I understand not enjoying more abstract forms of art, but most enjoyable work, even if enjoyed by a smaller number of people, still follows the rules of composition, no matter how seemingly aimless/formless/meaningless. Not enjoying the experience is one thing, but to ignore that the work demonstrates understanding of composition, albeit in a "unconventional" way, just reveals that person's ignorance of form and aesthetics. It's just an expression of arrogance.

    It is what it is.music as art in my opinion. I'll be honest it's not my taste, I might go as far to say 'the emperor's new clothes'.a lot of people stoking their chins spouting crap, nodding approvingly, but it don't seem skillful nor dose it display a talent to me only
    a love of noise.keep it for your headphones in a darkened room, agree or disagree either way it's my view.

    • @conradblack2504
      @conradblack2504 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're pretty much on the money but I think you'll find there is a degree of talent required in making this kind of music. Try it yourself and you'll find that a certain 'skill' is required. As for the pontificating ... there is very little to say about minimal music.

    • @rickewilde
      @rickewilde 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The thing is I think I could do it and who is to say it's not good, who knows, who can possibly judge, it would be your opinion, you or someone might wax lyrical about it but then again someone else might not.it's all subjective.my view on what I heard was posted it don't make it right tho.

    • @conradblack2504
      @conradblack2504 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      To judge it you would need a criterion of some kind, something to compare or contrast it with in a manner that appeals to more than just taste. Like you said there's no arguing with taste. Maybe you should try it, you could be the next big thing in ambient music!

    • @rickewilde
      @rickewilde 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol.probably not but I am glad I opened my mind to this genre if only for the briefest of moments in time, enjoy it, as for me I shall continue to watch more boiler room sessions but probably avoid the minimal.

    I couldn't relate to this set or appreciate the subtleness about it. I found it extremely slow moving and felt nothing much was happening. Modern music has no soul and didn't find this artistic

    • @gabele2386
      @gabele2386 8 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      It is intended to move slowly. There is actually a lot happening in it, yet you got to have an ear for it, which is mostly a matter of rehearse. Its the thing that has techno / ambient music to do with classical music. It is not music made for a moment, for a minute or two. Its music made for a much bigger frame.
