    Again the best video ever! Thank you for not using wipers bro! Wanted to see those droplets fly on windscreen! 😍

    • @C.Church
      @C.Church 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, crazy wiper action can get in the way. And when it starts squeaking and the driver doesn't have the 2nd nature reflex to turn them off (standard driver's reflex) it's all I notice. In my own driving, I never use the wipers in a drizzle. It streaks, squeaks, and puts a defined clear/dirty film on the windshield. Even during rain, it's sometimes better visibility without the streak of the wiper. You'd think tornado chasers would use RainX on all their windows, but it doesn't appear that most do.

    This is the way storm chasing should be on video. A narration. No constant wipers or screaming. The tornado is the show. Great video!

    It's so strange to see tornadoes forming while there are patches of snow on the ground.

    Wild to see the wall cloud really focus into a tornado when the RFD really strengthened. Clear slot, then boom! Tornado. That was really cool, thanks for sharing this!

      So I turned 8 on that day, and me and my parents went to our local Walmart. My brother was at my grandma's and saw the tornado going towards the town I was in. It was on a road and hit a barn. I was stuck in the back of Walmart for I think 10 minutes. When I got out, it started hailing and we saw the damage that happened. I think it was an EF3

  • @SuddenUpdraft
    @SuddenUpdraft 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Thank you for explaining what is happening. Videos are much more interesting when there is narration. Also, you frequently show the wall clouds instead of just where the tornado is on the ground. Frankly, those videos often look the same.

    At the 3:00 minute mark when you were talking about the wall cloud, I saw this same wall cloud from over near Waverly and New Berlin heading north. We had actually seen the supercell developing that eventually produced the tornado in Taylorville, Illinois.

    Three years ago December 26 we had an F5 in Garland Tx. just north east of Dallas.The tornado first touched down in Garland, crossed a lake into Rowlett Tx. We have very good weather forecast here and the only people killed were in cars on a large overpass on I 30 in south part of Garland. No one in the houses were killed and only minor injuries. A very lucky night for us and a total shock for that time of year.

    The sirens had already gone off when you had gone through. I live in Beardstown and the sirens in Bluffs and Meredosia before the storm came through was on the phone with my mom in Meredosia when they went off. About 5 mins later they went off in Beardstown. Which fun fact the Beardstown siren speaks 3 different languages. And the debris was the water treatment plant and storage sheds next to it.

  • @C.Church

    Sincere question because it happens to all the professional and advanced hobbyists: That microphone wind noise. You guys using a blimp/zeppelin/wind-thing? Because if you are, that really goes to show the wind strength. Not sure what type of gear chasers use, but I am curious if you guys also use field audio recorders (Zoom, Tascam, Sony--couple hundred dollars) to capture the essence of the roar. Away from the engine and windows*, just strapped somewhere out of the way with a wind prophylactic, rolling the whole time, might provide superior audio back up. Anyway, great video!
    *and away from teammate who shout a lot 😂

    • @AndrewPritchard
      @AndrewPritchard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These are great thoughts! I make my own wind cats out of cloth, velcro, and super glue. These really help to reduce the artificial wind noise and crackling on the microphone and instead let the natural sound through to the microphone. Funny you mention it, because a field audio recorder was *almost* my last purchase for the 2021 storm season - next year perhaps! Pure storm audio is very important to me.

    I have no idea what liability nuance technicalities exist.. but I've always wanted to see a tornado (I've literally been through three, but been underground). Maybe saw one in Western Florida but it seemed to be just a funnel that ended up dissipating anyway.
    I live in northern IL, so it wouldn't be too bad of a drive.. could I follow you on a chase some time in my own car? Tornadoes fascinate me! I just don't have the technical knowledge or equipment/ budget to really have what I need to do it on my own / nor do I have the time (college student). I ask this assuming you live and chase regularly in Illinois, I looked at your channel and it looks like it but honestly could be totally wrong.
    Let me know! I bet this year will be super active after 2018's relative passivity

    • @DalesBadBug
      @DalesBadBug 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      yes,but...Illinois is more Central than North..and Most of the tornadoes happen in Central and Southern Illinois ( I Know because i was in the Middle of it all as it was happening.) Our sirens blew,one tornado was just a mile outside of my city,heading our way...Lucky it missed us...as for Taylorville and other towns not very far from where i live,they got hit bad.

      @DalesBadBug 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    • @IIBloodXLustII
      @IIBloodXLustII 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is technically fall still, so you are going to have similar atmospheric ingredients to spring when it comes to firing up super cells. This is typically a severe weather season for the south, but that doesn't mean that it can't happen farther north as well.

    • @scenicdepictionsofchicagolife
      @scenicdepictionsofchicagolife 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hell no this isn't that unusual! We always get super late supercells here (maybe not December late very frequently but September and October easily).
      Also, to think that southern IL gets more tornadoes than northern is foolish and dangerous and actually if anything the opposite is true. The area stretching from Moline to Joliet is the most tornadically active area, for a variety of reasons but really just look at a reported storm incidence map. Also the strongest RECORDED twister (not reported, RECORDED) was the 1990 Plainfield F5 that was just. A few miles away from Joliet! Considering that most of the state is a basin and is extremely flat and lies on front / air mass boundaries and experiences HUGE atmospheric instability as a result of massively fluxuating temps in winter and spring (fall too!) Nowhere in this state could really not be labeled as tornado tornado prone. People think we ain't in the valley but we sure as hell are, so are all the states around us.

    You spend way too much time watching your computer screen instead of the road. Stop being a danger to others on the road, and pull over ro check the situation... or as someone else said, get a helper to drive.
