    Kristine, this was the BEST review of moths and other pests who attack our wool I've ever seen! Thank you for all of the effort you put into your podcasts. They are truly of a high production value. And of hight content value. I'm going to flag this episode and watch it once a year as a refresher. I've used those pheromone sticky traps, but probably placed the in the wrong places. And you've given me courage to get my yarn out of all the gasket plastic bins (I spent a fortune on) and somehow more out in the open.

    Hi, I just found this video I am desperate for answers. Is there anything that would be able to survive a dryer? Every single piece of clothing I have has been completely inundated by little gray fuzz balls even if the fabrics themselves are not gray. The only thing I could guess is that it would be the dryer or something like that. We've cleaned it, cleaned the lint trap, took it in apart and clean it everything. Is there anything that could live inside a dryer or would survive the heat?

    My small stash was not organized but free it was. Often I forgot which yarn was purchased for which project. Now I'm storing my yarn with the specific pattern that inspired the purchase in mesh lingerie laundry bags . When ready for a new project I just grab a bag, with the right yarn and pattern paired.
    Great looking project bags work the same but are expensive while mesh lingerie laundry bags are inexpensive but functional.

      Hi Paul -- I have done the same thing before. I think it's a great idea, but I didn't stick with it, lol! I like having a pretty yarn stash partly for the aesthetics of it. :)

    Great info! I homeschool my GD and we write many letters. I think it is important for kids to learn plus cursive writing. In turn she loves getting letters and cards. I was a big scrap booker at one time so I have what most shops carried:)I know! Unreal amount of stuff. So we make cards! Have a great week, Cheryl

      Hi Cheryl -- that is great, and I totally agree! Paper is another version of yarn for me, haha! Thanks for watching, and I hope your week is going swimmingly, too. :)

    Sometime when I've stashed down a lot from what I currently have, I would love to try a KnitPicks sampler, where one gets 2 skeins each of several different colorways of one of their yarns. That would work so perfectly for the charity afghans I make, especially anything in a granny-square or striped ripple pattern.

    • @EweUniversity
      @EweUniversity  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would be a great idea! I have bought a lot of the KnitPicks kits just to get the yarn because it's such a good deal. :)

    I just started listening to the audio of The Nix and have heard similar reviews that concluded it needed heavy editing. I am a huge fan of The Tournament of Books and this is one of the shortlist titles. I am also a big fan of paper crafting and I'm not sure which stash is bigger, yarn or paper/stamping supplies.

      Hi! Thanks for your comment. I'm glad to hear that because all the reviews I read were glowing. I mean, it is a good book but from the beginning I was frustrated with the wordiness. Not enough to quit listening, though, haha! I hope you enjoy it. Yes, my yarn outweighs my paper and stamping supplies, but I love days when I can get it all out and make cards. :)

    I have recently discovered your podcast and have found it to be very enjoyable and informative. I have just started knitting my socks with 9" circular needles and really like them. I'd be interested in hearing about your experiences with these tiny needles and which brands and patterns you have found easiest to use. I knit my socks toe-up and have used patterns by Wendy Johnson and The Knitting Expat. My daughter had a carpet beetle infestation and I was curious to see what they looked like. Yuck and Yuck!!! Your hand made cards are just lovely! I look forward to your next podcasts!

      Hello, and thanks for watching! Yes, I'm actually planning to do a video about knitting socks on 9" circulars, and I will show how I knit the entire sock on the tiny circulars (well, except for closing the toe). I knit mine cuff down, but the philosophy will be the same. :) The footage of all the bugs in this video was giving me the heebie jeebies! I especially cannot stand silverfish. But I thought it was good to include it, even though it is yucky to see.

    Enjoyed your podcast! I would be interested in your experience on using less expensive yarn verse the expensive ones. Sometimes, you hate to spend a lot of money on a blanket or shawl if you know the person who you are giving it to won't care for it as they should. Thanks for all your research.....it's very informative!

    I use lidded plastic tote tubs in a couple of sizes to store my wool yarns. (Probably should keep my kitchen cotton in a lidded tote tub, too!) I had read online that some crafters used strongly-scented soap (f.ex., Irish Spring) as a critter repellent in their natural-fiber stash -- does that work? My acrylic stash (which is what I mostly use for charity crochet) is mostly in a couple of sets of plastic drawer units. (I used to keep some of it in a cart with 3 open bins -- but my little dog tried to play with the yarn, so I have to keep it inaccessible to her.)

    • @EweUniversity
      @EweUniversity  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your comment! Strongly scented items (like soap, lavender, cedar) may work to deter insects, but from the research I've read, their scents don't last long and definitely don't work to prevent infestations or kill insects. If someone were super worried about their yarn, they would need to keep it in air-tight containers in order to keep insects out.

      At least I'm doing the airtight containers right, then! And if I ever need more soap for the house, I can just grab one of the scented deodorant soaps from my stash tote tubs . . . ;)
