You sound like my martial arts coach! I’m nearing my one year of getting into pickleball and honestly, everything you said is what i went through in that year. I am so glad i got into tournaments real fast because it humbled me and made me realize that when i get into competitive play, I get hella nervous and had to quickly build up that tolerance of nervousness.
So good that you covered the zone of proximal development. While I’m new to pickleball, I’ve played sports for my whole life. I’ve said the phrase “To get better, you need to play better players” to some degree is a myth. While yes it’s true to some degree. If you go out and play someone so much better than you, it may do more harm than good. Yeah a PPA pro is obviously better than me, but if I go out and play one of them, I’ll lose so horrifically that I wouldn’t have learned anything. Everything at that level is so different that trying to process all of it at once is impossible
I like to target the stronger player in rec play. May lose more points and games, but I would rather be challenged and get better. Had a rare opportunity to play against a 4.5 player and best believe all my shots will going to him. My partner was not happy lol.
i’d say don’t target a player but hit optimal shots as if both are the same level this seems like a good level of balance and not developing bad habits for tournament play
Great video, really puts things into perspective. Just lost in a recent tournament and took a beating but thats just letting me know where I stand and that I need to drill more.
That’s plenty of paddle to get to 5.0 but if you really like Ronbus, check out the Pulsar FX R1. I have one and it’s an excellent power all-court paddle.
The hardest to get to DUPR 5.0? If you come from tennis… The hardest is to find time to play over and over. That’s it. The dinking? u’ll get used to it…
No new content on this channel for quite a while. It's disappointing, because I really liked this channel.

1:43 no one gets it when I try to explain this. So frustrating. You have to leave your comfort zone to get better. Thank you!

Hard when best player is cross court though as unwise to attack/speed up cross court ( too much time to react).

You are by far the best tuber for pickleball. Thanks
