14:55 - it's sort of fun that back in 1995 Clarkson was criticising Japan's ability to design aesthetically pleasing cars - I look back at the nineties now, and of the cars released that decade that I still find beautiful to this day, I think almost every single one of them is Japanese. Eg. the Mark IV Supra, RX-7, S2000, etc. The style language the Japanese were using in their car design in the nineties was exquisite: soft lines and curves, compact, beautiful silhouettes, perfectly proportioned and minimalist; no fussy details. The Skyline is an exception really, because it's so boxy and conventional looking...yet it still has a certain something that other western cars of a similar silhouette didn't have. A kind of aggressiveness, and sleekness. It's a shame that the new, 21st century revamps of Japanese icons have tended to be either dull or hideous.
Trust me that phrase is completely B.S, i owned Bimmer E93 335 10years ago, tons of issues, trade it in for a C400, luxury but boring to drive. Now i own a Lexus RX350 and a R34 skyline GTt coupe, never been happier, wont look back at those European cars anymore.
I lived in Japan at that time. Loved those cars. Even took a diamonte back to Australia and people stopped me to ask what it was. It was a POS Mitsubishi of course, but it looked better than a 5 series. Sold it for 3 times what I payed for it.
Gotta love how clarkson could see the potential of the skyline though. He knew the chassis could handle more than 800 hp and he knew it could handle a lot more than that.

2:47 "Grand Touring"... Crucial stuff indeed.
That’s called foreshadowing
My Uncle use to have a Cadillac that had a alarm which use to shout "I've Been Tampered With!". I loved it. He also had 2 Javelins with stock 401's religiously taken care of... 2 be silly he had the exact age, make, & model of the Wayne's World Pacer. May he rest in peace...
The skylines design was purely for being a racecar. They had to make a road car for homalogation
@@matthewtrent32 Still better than being an all show no go shitbox like the DMC DeLorean.
Evo, eclipse, supra and skyline are timeless classics now
the chap in the Porsche had been there for a week. 😂😂😂😂 I just died, you gotta love Jeremy Clarkson's humour.
I remember my uncle's Cadillac which had an alarm that yelled in English... "I've Been Tampered With!" 🤣 I miss that...
Even 1995 Japan look amazing already
Jeremy Clarkson is unique.
So is Kelly Clarkson
This is the best memory ever
Man Japan was always ahead of it's time after WW2...
And before, and during
Awesome video and thanks for sharing 👍
Lightning from FF13? Remember when everyone hated that game?
Personally I think the R32 GTR is gorgeous! 🥰
Nah, it was never that good looking. The car itself was ahead of its time though.
Keiichi - drift king 🙌
dope. this video is legendary... top notch
Dude what's with your PFP?
Among all of the car cultures around the world. this is what I love the most
So funny that they interviewed a yakuza gang members 🤣
Loving the jazz and jdm togetjer
Clarksons permed mullet needs is own hall of fame!
And that's why he's paid the big bucks. A fine journalist, whatever you may think about his more extreme opinions
the background music is great
Always had that unique style. Brilliant.
"I'm not into German cars because they don't break down"
oh how I wish that were true
It is if you buy the right one.
Put that monk in a BMW and it'll change his mind.
Maybe it's just me but I always liked the way those older Japanese cars looked. Interesting to hear them say they don't look good.
I lived in Japan at that time. Loved those cars. Even took a diamonte back to Australia and people stopped me to ask what it was. It was a POS Mitsubishi of course, but it looked better than a 5 series. Sold it for 3 times what I payed for it.
What be a better place to live where japan at it's peak.
Pure heaven 🤩 accessories shop !
Gotta love how clarkson could see the potential of the skyline though. He knew the chassis could handle more than 800 hp and he knew it could handle a lot more than that.
What a boring world this would be without Jeremy Clarkson.
