    Rob so love the video but have a recording question. I try to use a VU meter to try to keep things around -18dbfs. Do I place it before or after for gain staging?

    • @RobArnoldWorld
      @RobArnoldWorld  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm... I'm not really sure what the best way is to answer that man, without seeing your signal chain myself.
      You should try and judge your levels by your channel faders, the input and output levels of your plugins, and your bus levels. Then use something like a VU on your master bus. To me, gain staging is watching your levels and keeping them from clipping every step of the way. So that means not clipping your channel faders on your input, then not clipping your plugins from one insert to the next, then not clipping your sends to the bus, then not clipping the bus itself. Then your buses feed your master bus, which you obviously don't want to overload either. So it's important that every "stage" of your signal, is "gained" or at the appropriate level, from input to output. Good luck!

    • @ST-fl5fy
      @ST-fl5fy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RobArnoldWorld ok. I’ll keep all that in mind especially after plug-ins. Why do you place a VU on the master?

    • @RobArnoldWorld
      @RobArnoldWorld  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ST-fl5fy Because it gives me a reading of the overall level of my session.
      Since everything within my session is feeding into my master bus, this is where an output reading is most important.

    These sound amazing!! I use AmpliTube 4 and I have so many issues with the noise gate not cutting off sounds properly and also adding a 0.5 second delayed “echo” when I cut a note off.
    Listening to you play the sound cut off is instant as soon as you mute the note.

    • @RobArnoldWorld
      @RobArnoldWorld  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess here's how I'd think about it...
      With Amphub, you're getting a bunch of sick sounding amps and effects, and you can dial everything in to your liking.
      With Tonehub, you're getting a specific set of amps, chosen directly by specific producers, with the combinations, settings, and mic placements that they prefer. You can then of course tweak things however you like. Oh, and you of course get all the STL effects as well.
      So if you want a bunch of amps to play around with, go with Amphub. But if you want the amps, tones, and presets from a specific producer, like Colin Richardson, Mark Lewis, or Jason Suecof, then go with Tonehub.

    Rob, are you hearing what you're playing through monitors? If so, which ones & how loud are they?
    I'm used to an Orange CR120 w/ 2x12 v30's & a 1x12 Eminenence Swamp Thing, usually, just the V30's but, looking to get into sims & not buy 10 more amps 😂

    • @RobArnoldWorld
      @RobArnoldWorld  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I am... but depending on how I'm recording, I have to be conscious of what my dialog microphone is picking up while making these videos. So sometimes I opt for headphones.
      But if I''m just jamming and writing and stuff, I'm definitely just ripping through my monitors. Always at a comfortable level. Not too loud, not too soft. I've used Dynaudio BM5 MKII's for the past decade. The pair I have have been updated to a newer version, which you can find on my gear list!

      @@BubbaZanetti_375 Well, that's not really the way you want to think about it. Studio monitors have a different purpose than a guitar amplifier.
      Think of studio monitors as like a nice big stereo system we all had in our houses in the 80's and 90's. Music sounded great on them. But if you tried to play a guitar through the stereo, like with a distortion pedal or something, the results would not be desirable.

    Have you ever tried any of their plugins? Their two newer ones are a Gojira plugin and a John Petrucci plugin. Both are killer. Unfortunately I can't help without hearing your situation myself. If you'd like, record a quick little video (just like 30 seconds or something) and send it to me on Instagram. @RobArnoldWorld
      I'll see if I can help after I hear what you've got going on. And kudos for taking the initiative to describe your signal chain! That's very helpful!
