I love watching your videos. I usually just lurk in the background but wanted to thank you for your story. I resonated a lot with the medical part of your journey. I’m glad you have a medical team and a proper diagnosis. I’m still looking for mine. I’m so glad the universe has given you some lovely wins along with the challenges. Your partner is right, you are worth it. ❤❤❤❤

I enjoy your channel and sympathise with your medical journey. I have arthritis and have had eye issues which have changed my life procedures. I'm 74 and consider myself a fibre artist like yourself but I focus more on patchwork. I loved to knit but my hands don't agree so I crochet more. I too have encountered fat prejudice but have managed to get a little smaller ( about 50kg or 100 pounds) and discovered an intolerance to artificial food additives which improved my life. Keep on your path because I see you as a quiet leader and a worthy of respect person.

Thank you so much! That means a lot. And I love patchwork! It's been such a force for political movement over history.

My self-assigned medical-alert cat Penelope will scream at me if I sing along to music because she's learned that I only do that if I'm having strong emotions.
MCAS SUCKS. Especially the SSRIs not working.
I'm really glad and fortunate that I can manage mine by taking over the counter antihistamines.

I am just getting back to floor and weaving myself and also have a non-specific connective tissue disorder. And finding myself increasingly less able physically I am lucky enough to have just purchased a spring loom too. I too struggle with the warping process and find myself spacing it out over a much longer period of time than my fellow Weavers tend to. I have not assembled it yet, but I purchased a warping from Louet because I think I will have an easier time making a spinning device rotate so that the next placement of the yarn comes to me rather than me moving to the peg. I’ll still have to move up and down vertically and go around the top and bottom Pegs for the cross, but I think it will be an enormous improvement on being easier for my body than using a warping board. I wish you luck and joy on your journey. And I really really appreciate how you share it via TH-cam. I am starting to do the same. I just finished getting my first warp onto my loom under tension and did the 1st inch of plain wave only to discover that I have crossed threads somewhere right in the middle and there’s something going on with one of my treadles. Also, Facebook group is being obnoxious and punishing me for my disabilities, causing me to be blacklisted because I asked for time to be at a larger screen to take down a part of a post. Unfortunately, that’s the Facebook group where I would’ve gotten help diagnosing what was being Funky with one of my treadles. I needed to take a step back from the drama because it was making me hurt physically. I have my Weavers guild meeting today and I will hopefully get better help through them and be able to actually weave this first project. I can’t wait to see what you post about. What your first project will be. I wouldn’t necessarily do it for your first project, but a longer warp with a relatively simple threading like point draw or straight draw means you can have a whole variety of projects for one threading process. And with a floor loom, you can get a drastically longer warp than you will ever fit on a rigid Heddle loom.

I'm so sorry about your experience with that FB group! Unfortunately it's so common.
I'm planning on an adaptive warping method that involves knitting needles, but the warping in stages is a great idea! Well wishes and good thoughts your way!

Congratulations on your new to you floor loom! I’m curious to see what projects you make. Floor looms are definitely more challenging than a RHL, but the premise is the same. You should pick it up with no trouble. Good luck!

I'm still not sure where it's going to live/in what configuration in my tiny studio. Long term theory is it's going up against the window and I'm changing desks.

You can make floor rugs on that if you're up to doing a bit of heavy beating, that's pretty amazing you got it for 500. I've got a secondhand 8 shaft lotus loom and it was 1000, took me ages to pay it off but she's nice and she's called Betty. I know boring right, but she just has an air of ye olde worldliness about her, my noble 4 shaft floor loom is called Lou Lou, I know boring again but she's sweet and compact and she has a jauntiness about her in an untired way. I do have others I know I'm a magpie, and before you go there, yes I have a project on them all except my giant loom which is still not assembled she's an antique so I want to do it right and do it once. You sure do have a bundle to contend with re your health issues, at least now you've got a name for it and a proper diagnosis, and its nice that your partners except you for you and love you unconditionally. Oh please more hand waves from partners please!😊 If you're ever wanting hand spun yarn I'd be happy to send you some some, I love spinning and I generally take a while to use it all up, so if you ever want some just let me know, although you've probably got lots of spinners near you. I'm not on Facebook, I just haven't been interested in that or Instagram, maybe I should but for now I'm happy without those social medias. Loved the look of your market stall in the video. Take care and stay warped.😊 Cheers from Tasmania!

Thank you for all the well wishes! Your looms sound fantastic!
I'm really excited for the Clement because it can do the fine weight and handle rugs, like you said. It's the perfect match to go along with my workhorse of a Schacht Cricket.
And no starting on my end! Getting a warp on a floor loom, especially an antique one, is a tense affair!
If you'd like to shoot me an email, I'm always happy to take donations and tag the folks who donated the yarn in videos!
Ps. Yes, my partners love waving (one of them is like "Yes, I shall be a cryptid!!"), and there are more waves to come!

Yay -- the loom came! I'm dying to find out what your warping plan is (and how it involves knitting needles). Given the beautiful things you make on your little Cricket, I expect the new loom will give you huge room for creative exploration.

This Clement Floor Loom is perfect for the light detailed work and heavier rugs, so it's going to be an excellent supplementary resource to my workhorse of a Cricket.

Thank you for sharing your story ❤️ And how exciting getting this beautiful loom! It's so encouraging to hear stories of kindness still in the world. My sister and I have been selling our crafts at craft fairs for a couple years, I always struggle with pricing my items. Do you have any tips? Some of the formulas out there are ridiculous. No one will pay what it would be, according to some of them. Thank you😊 Oh and I love your vidios, thank you!

    • @HawksongWeaving
      @HawksongWeaving  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yeah, pricing your work is incredibly frustrating. I find that people are more likely to buy something with a 5 on the end of it, like $35 as opposed to $30 or $40. Also determining when to ease the black and white thinking, and figuring out "Okay, is it better to not make a sale for what it's actually worth, or to streamline my production methods and make a lot more sales for a lower price?"
I sell my Ereader sleeves for $15 each, but in labor and materials using the formulas you mentioned they're more likely worth $40+. But no one is going to buy them at that price. So lowering the cost so I can sell more, and streamlining the process so I put in less labor has been what works for me.
