  • After almost a year's absence from youtube, Leo is back with a brand new half-hour documentary filmed in Africa in the summer of 2017. Join Leo on his journey across southern Africa to explore the fascinating wildlife that calls Africa home. In the first episode of this two-part series, the Natural World Facts team head to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe before travelling to Chobe National Park in Botswana.
    This documentary has been nearly one year in the making, so we hope you enjoy. Watch part 2, Wild Okavango, here: • African Wildlife Docum...
    All footage is original and filmed by the NWF team.
    This was my first full-length documentary project, filmed in the summer of 2017 while on location in Zimbabwe. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and all I took (apart from suncream and far too few clothes) was my little handheld camera, and some SD cards with barely enough memory. What came out of it is this, a half-hour documentary featuring all original footage presented by myself, and I'm very happy with it. It took about a year to edit, with very limited resources by way of CPU but (luckily) access to Final Cut Pro. I hope you enjoy it, and I'd appreciate any feedback greatly.
    Chapters:
    0:00 Introduction to African Wildlife
    1:10 The Zambezi River
    2:26 The Kalahari Desert
    3:56 Victoria Falls
    4:46 Giraffes in the Scrubland
    6:26 Warthogs
    7:16 An Interview with our Safari Guide
    8:20 A Herd of Water Buffalo
    9:59 African Elephants
    11:57 A Troop of Baboons
    13:01 The Sinking Sun
    14:37 Heading to Botswana
    15:36 Chobe National Park
    16:14 Elephants of Chobe

    So yeah, this is what I've been working on for the past year. Sorry for the hiatus, and thanks ever-so-much for sticking with the channel! We filmed this last summer when we got to go to Africa (Thanks, Grandpa!). I filmed every second and now have compiled and edited it into a full-length documentary. This is the first documentary in what will be a two-part series. The next part is yet to be finished and will document the wildlife of the Okavango Delta in Botswana (also filmed by me last summer).

    Okay, I know I've already commented but I've just sat down and watched it in its entirety on my television and WOW. Seriously, Leo, what you've completed here is outstanding. The filming itself was well done, the post production editing was phenominal, and the music is perfect. I loved the Of Monsters and Men covers atop images of such magnificent animals (and knowing the lyrics to those songs just made me smile because they lined up so well). Even the clip at the end after the credits just to make it more personal (and awkwardly hilarious). I know I said it before, but I am beyond excited for the follow up. Also, it looks great on a big screen, and, frankly, I prefer it that way. Well done. Truly. And now I'll scamper out of your comments section; I just had to say all of that!!!

    • @NaturalWorldFacts

      You have no idea how much this means to me! Thank you so so much for all your kind words, I am so glad it turned out this way and that people are enjoying it. Also, well done for noticing the OMAM songs. They’re my favourite band of all time and I couldn’t help but sneak one of their tunes in here 😂.
      Again, thank you ever so much. Editing of part 2 is well under way and this comment is definitely going to be a big motivation for me when editing. Also, thanks for watching it on your television, I was always interested how it would look and so I am very glad you think it looks good on a big screen. Righto, gotta get back to editing, and sorry if I am slightly absent from commenting on your videos for a short while but very very soon I shall have more time on my hands to do so and relax.

      Hey, no rush at all. I'm content just knowing the awesomeness is coming. ;) Glad I could be a motivator. =) And, yeah, I'm a total OMAM gluten, too. I have like all of their songs on my iPod. My go-to feel good music.

    • @NaturalWorldFacts
      @NaturalWorldFacts  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool. Just out of interest, do you know any of these bands? If not, you might like them. (I love music and never miss an opportunity to share my suggestions 😂)
      - Boy and Bear
      - Ben Howard
      - Lumineers
      - Passenger
      - Stu Larsen
      - Mighty Oaks
      - Sons of the East
      - Axel Flovent
      - First Aid Kit
      - Paper Kites
      - Head and the Heart
      Haha, sorry if I got a bit carried away there. All the best to you!

    • @AnimalFactFiles
      @AnimalFactFiles 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First Aid Kit yes, but the rest no! I looove searching out new music so I will happily try them!! Thank you!! My contribution would be Low Roar - little more downtrodden but still sublime ;) The best to you, as well!!

    • @NaturalWorldFacts
      @NaturalWorldFacts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like Low Roar! Yeah, very relaxed songs. In that case you may like Angus and Julia Stone or Message to Bears.

    I just found your channel, and I'm so happy I did! This is so well produced. It's obvious how much effort and time was put into this. I can't wait to see the next one, as well. Really awesome work!

    • @NaturalWorldFacts
      @NaturalWorldFacts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so so much. Yes, it took me a year 😂 but I got it edited and uploaded in the end. It was an amazing experience to actually encounter such awesome wildlife in its natural habitat. This documentary is the first full-length video I’ve made, and unlike my very old content where I’d stand in front of a greenscreen and narrate facts to stock footage, I filmed all this myself. It marks a new era on my (humble little) channel in which, going forward, I’ll be making more full-length documentaries as well as short fact files filmed out in the field like my british wildlife vids. It’s so much more fun seeing the animal in person and filming it myself, and so I’m glad you enjoyed it and appreciated the effort I put in. Part 2 of the Africa Documentary will be coming soon, I’m still editing right now but stay tuned.
      P.s I subscribed to your channel too and will be checking out your content as well ☺️

      @AnimalFactFiles 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahh!!! I was just telling my co-host (the guy who does the voice on some of the episodes on our channel) that I had stumbled across your content and that I was really, really hoping you would be doing more documentaries. I'm so happy to hear that is your goal!! I can completely empathize with wanting to be out in the world and experiencing everything for yourself. That is such a novel approach that hardly anyone here on TH-cam does. You have definitely earned an avid fan!
      Oh and thank you for subscribing!!! =)

      Thank so much for support. I have just watched a few of your videos. They’re so well made and well edited. I am addicted. And what I find so interesting is how your fact files are not just about the ‘biggest’ or ‘famous’ animals. You’re able to make brilliant fact files on animals even I have never heard of, like your latest Tadpole Shrimp video. The narration is so clear, too. Love them

      I’m hoping to upload more in the future. Africa part 2 is being edited, however it has been on hold for quite some time as I’m in year 11 about to take my GCSE exams. As such, I’ve had very little time to edit or make more videos in the meantime. I’m so glad you deemed by channel binge-worthy, and I really appreciate your support!!! There will be a part 2, I just can’t say when exactly.
      Thanks again! I hope you have a wonderful day :)

      Nature has some funny ways of working, but I think that’s all a part of its charm ;)
      It’s the quirks that make the natural world so fascinating to study - the way creatures of the deep grow so huge, the way some animals work together in symbiosis, the way male mantids let themselves be cannibalised all in the pursuit of sex (I mean... if they’re that desperate).
