Piton de la Fournaise Volcano Update; New Eruption Occurs, Two Fissures Form

  • On the morning of July 2nd, 2023, a new volcanic eruption began on the French island of Reunion which has a population of more than 850,000. There, the Piton de la Fournaise volcano offshore of Madagascar erupted, creating two new eruptive fissures. These new eruptive fissures have now each produced a lava flow that is approximately 1,000 meters in length, but is continuing to expand. This video will discuss this eruption, the seismic crisis which preceded the eruption, and the deep valleys of Piton de la Fournaise.

    Reunion Island would be a great place to visit this time of year. It's the dead of winter there, yet averages high temps in the 60°F range. Beautiful. And, you get to watch a volcano erupt - BONUS.

    I truly trust and enjoy your work greatly. Thank you for all your work and effort on this topic. I feel not enough people take geology, earthquakes and volcanoes seriously enough and is something more people should be interested in. Thank you for not being click baity, fear mongering, predicting, and that every time you share a personal opinion, or something that is not proven you clearly say so.
    Keep up the amazing work

      Yet surprisingly since yesterday I've been trying to post a comment in order to correct a few mistakes made in the video but it always disappears.... is it because the Channel does not like to be corrected even when telling false information ?
      In that case I find it very sad and worrying.
      So I'm trying one more time here:
      -The first fissure (1:25 in yellow color) is actually made of two fissures, one starting around 8h0AM which stopped a few hours later, and a second fissure that opened about 500m below the first one. These two fissures are located above the Piton Voulvoul eruptive cone instead of below ( as shown at 1:25)
      -No eruption crossed the road in 2010. The last eruption to cross the road was in 2007.
      These informations can be checked in OVPF official website.

      I am serious when it comes to Volcanic eruption,specially if it endangers people who live close to Volcano's that is a risk when it comes to Pyroclastic flows which incinerates everything in it's path from vegetation to live stock and human beings.

    • @Dragrath1
      @Dragrath1 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Probably effusive given the volcanic setting its a hotspot shield volcano so while explosive eruptions can occur those generally involve water or late post shield stage activity.

    Is it my imagination, or do eruptions occur simultaneously throughout the world?
    It seems when one acts up, others act up.
    Also, an outside event occurs during these eruptions: solar CMEs, full moons, HARRP waves, D.E.W.s......
    Does anyone have thoughts on this???
    Have a SUPER BLESSED day, and THANK YOU for the info

    • @drixc1
      @drixc1 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is just you trying to generalize without proper knowledge (respectfully , no offense).
      There are about 40 volcanoes currently erupting every year since decades, some of them erupting permanently , some others regularly, some others waking up and then going back to sleep.
      There is no such thing as an interconnection of volcanoes worldlwide.
      It is also a mediatic effect. You think about it because you hear some medias talking about it. But most of the media don't talk about most of currently erupting volcanoes, like Karangetang , Kliuchevskoi, ol doinyo lengai, masaya, dukono, ibu etc etc... These volcanoes I'm pretty sure you never heard about it while it is always (or very frequently) erupting since decades if not more.....
