Piton de la Fournaise Volcano Update; New Eruption Occurs, Two Fissures Form

- On the morning of July 2nd, 2023, a new volcanic eruption began on the French island of Reunion which has a population of more than 850,000. There, the Piton de la Fournaise volcano offshore of Madagascar erupted, creating two new eruptive fissures. These new eruptive fissures have now each produced a lava flow that is approximately 1,000 meters in length, but is continuing to expand. This video will discuss this eruption, the seismic crisis which preceded the eruption, and the deep valleys of Piton de la Fournaise.

Reunion Island would be a great place to visit this time of year. It's the dead of winter there, yet averages high temps in the 60°F range. Beautiful. And, you get to watch a volcano erupt - BONUS.
I truly trust and enjoy your work greatly. Thank you for all your work and effort on this topic. I feel not enough people take geology, earthquakes and volcanoes seriously enough and is something more people should be interested in. Thank you for not being click baity, fear mongering, predicting, and that every time you share a personal opinion, or something that is not proven you clearly say so.
Keep up the amazing work
Agreed. I recommend his channel to people all the time. He's so refreshing.
Yet surprisingly since yesterday I've been trying to post a comment in order to correct a few mistakes made in the video but it always disappears.... is it because the Channel does not like to be corrected even when telling false information ?
In that case I find it very sad and worrying.
So I'm trying one more time here:
-The first fissure (1:25 in yellow color) is actually made of two fissures, one starting around 8h0AM which stopped a few hours later, and a second fissure that opened about 500m below the first one. These two fissures are located above the Piton Voulvoul eruptive cone instead of below ( as shown at 1:25)
-No eruption crossed the road in 2010. The last eruption to cross the road was in 2007.
These informations can be checked in OVPF official website.
I am serious when it comes to Volcanic eruption, specially if it endangers people who live close to Volcano's that is a risk when it comes to Pyroclastic flows which incinerates everything in it's path from vegetation to live stock and human beings.
thanks for the update and footage
Great video as always ! Thanks from la réunion island ! I hope I will have the opportunity to see it if it last long enough.
Oh wow this is amazing Thank you so much for doing what you do! I wonder how many changes in elevation in this island area there truly are.
They must put live cameras there
I hope they never will
they have live still cams, which only update every 15 minutes or so .... and always facing the wrong direction. They will release beautiful video the next day... but we are not allowed to view those cams. all about tourism $$. The science is low on their list.
Volcano, "France is on fire? Mind if I join?"
Thank you for your informative updates
Many blessings
Love your videos! I find them informative and very interesting :D
Thanks. The stock footage of lava flows and lava fountains is nothing short of mesmerizing!
A lava lamp....you used a clip of convecting goo within an active lava lamp to illustrate magma going up???
Brilliant!!!
I love this channel.👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks.
Second time my comment disappears since yesterday so I'm trying one more time:

Why no lava lamps in your store?
1s Awesome POWER 💯
I’m glad the only thing threatened is a road.
Lava is so beautiful I feel the impulse of hugging it.
Hmm... better not. 😅
As if they didn’t have enough furious blazes...
Iceland's volcano has awakened also. Just saw that report today
Which one? Katla? It does not appear that an eruption is imminent.
Only earthquakes no eruption.
My kind of Fireworks 💥..!
Were those older calderas effusive collapses? Or explosive?
Probably effusive given the volcanic setting its a hotspot shield volcano so while explosive eruptions can occur those generally involve water or late post shield stage activity.
Love your videos, but please, try another voice pattern, this one is more of a headbanger!
he once mentioned going through some public speaking course but his speech pattern just won't budge
Wow a sub oceanic surface level caldera creating massive fissures. Any indication that sea water might rush into this chamber? You might give a short talk on caldera collapse theories
🌱🌏💚
Would love to see something about the Rock of Gibraltar...
Even French volcanoes are rioting 😅
Is it my imagination, or do eruptions occur simultaneously throughout the world?
It seems when one acts up, others act up.
Also, an outside event occurs during these eruptions: solar CMEs, full moons, HARRP waves, D.E.W.s......
Does anyone have thoughts on this???
Have a SUPER BLESSED day, and THANK YOU for the info
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻💜👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🙏🏻
It is just you trying to generalize without proper knowledge (respectfully , no offense).
There are about 40 volcanoes currently erupting every year since decades, some of them erupting permanently , some others regularly, some others waking up and then going back to sleep.
There is no such thing as an interconnection of volcanoes worldlwide.
It is also a mediatic effect. You think about it because you hear some medias talking about it. But most of the media don't talk about most of currently erupting volcanoes, like Karangetang , Kliuchevskoi, ol doinyo lengai, masaya, dukono, ibu etc etc... These volcanoes I'm pretty sure you never heard about it while it is always (or very frequently) erupting since decades if not more.....
Could be right.a biblical perspective @ ezek 38:20-22 indicative of Gods time to act in behalf of his mistreated people
@@compositioncompilation I don't see the link between a peaceful volcano and an angry god slaughtering people because they don't worship him....

Good, I saw a ship brought all passenger of MH 370 to ocean near union island. There is a project of weapon on the second layer of ocean in that place.
Can you tell me more please?

If this volcano collapses, could it pose a possible tsunami risk for Mauritius?
IF...
... then probably so.
But it is a big if.
@@LuisAldamiz As I recall, he earlier reported a mega tsunami risk from this volcano because it is structurally unstable, so it's not that big an "if".
@@goostrey4210 - OK, maybe it is like La Palma? In any case I would think it's still a big "if", people love the drama, even sysmologists, and thus hype does happen.
absolutely. And not only Mauritius....
@@drixc1 Interesting. How far could it go? Perth? India?
Awesome chan👍🩷

can we get lava flow compilations?
so cool.. hot! you know what i mean. lol!
Don’t change your scales in the middle of an explanation - “27000 years ago 10000 years ago, and 2700 BCE” what? You did it somewhere else with elevations, switching between elevations and then ending with “above sea level” WTF? Good channel, but consistency is important
The Local French Governor Must prepare to Evacuate Residence affected Areas.
No people threatened at all as the eruption is located in a desertic area.
@@drixc1exactly! the population is protected and i would also like to say that all of nature is also protected from fires and lava.
france
Such a beautiful island.. with it being France, is it rioting too?
Probably, the French will find a way to riot about anything.
hahaha not at all, peaceful people.
why use an ai voice track? whats wrong with your own voice?
you must be new here. that's how he talks
Drop the pretense.
Uh, what?
your accent is so heavy
much better than that guy who talks about burger king foot lettuce
Voice narration is awful.
Rude it’s just this guy’s voice
It's his voice, and he happens to clearly enunciate, and clearly informs his listeners.
If you can't stand his voice, go elsewhere.
Comment tone is awful.
