Hello, excusee Cuiv, can you tell me why in your video you don't have access to 60 sec exposure ? Normally if I'm right on Dwarf 3 you can set up to 60 sec
I'm getting excited to receive my Dwarf 3 later this month after watching you demonstrate some of the capabilities. Thank you for all the educational videos you supply to the community.
As someone wanting to get in astrophotography, and considering the options between the s30/s50 and the dwarf 3. The 1 feature that was selling me on the dwarf 3 was the EQ mode. This however is yet another pro. My only concern is if it rains 😂
@@n3xr0th 😅 yeh not sure how it holds up against rain , but the beauty of havinng the EQ is more imaging of the same target all night with zero field rotation that in itself is a game changer , and judging by many comments ive read dwarf look after their customers and are always listening so for me its a win win
I look forward to receiving this little telescope. I have more traditional scopes and cameras but I'm "green" when it comes to stacking and post-processing images. This little scope will get me "comfortable" with some of the techniques and software in preparation for my larger instruments. The idea of just plopping this little scope on my patio and drive everything from a Chromebook is very appealing from a learning perspective.
I was going down the path of building a ZWO AM5N mount and guide scope plus an canon R5 and 500mm lens until I looked closely at the Dwarf 3. I've decided I'd rather spend my time post processing instead of considerable time capturing images. I've read the smart telescopes are for people not technical. That may be, but I am an engineer and my view is I have many interests. Astrophotography is one of my hobbies. Not my main interest. The Dwarf 3 will open my eyes to astrophotography enough for now. Really appreciate your videos CUIV. Thanks.
Great video. I am big seestar fan and I have the Dwarf 2 but wasn't planning on getting a Dwarf 3 (if it's ever available) but your video changed my mind...Great features...Thanks!!!
I ordered my Dwarf 3 back in June and it still hasn't arrived 😭 I cannot wait to give these features a go! Thanks for your videos, they're making the wait a little less painful ☺️
That's unfortunate. They're claiming an 18 week lead time but you've waited since June it's obviously much longer than that. Think I'll cross this one off my list for now. Of course now I still get every D3 video popping up in my YT feed.
I love the D3's EQ feature, I will definitely use the schedule maker when it is out of beta. I purchased the Vespera II after watching your review, but it sits unused waiting for clear skies to try it out. I think the D3 and the Vespera II will make a great smart-scope team. If the clouds will ever clear!! Nice update on this new feature, thanks Cuiv.
@@CuivTheLazyGeek Thanks! I'm a bit disappointed because the V2 was dead on arrival (camera issues) and will be going back to France for repair. So my report will be delayed for some time.
My D3 has arrived, i had one clear night and then cloud all week. Ive got the beta app rearing to go. C'mon clearskies 🙏 Have to say the build quality feels like a huge step up from the D2. EQ mode worked great on my first night too.
I think the only filter for the Dwarf that is external is the solar filter, like the SeeStars. This is why I think this is such a missed opportunity for the Vespera, since having external only filter means you can't do a fully hands off plan with targets needing different filter.
Dwarflab included internal filters in D3 for feature parity with Seestar s50 - previous model D2 could only use external filters. Note Seestar's also have a built-in dark filter but Dwarf's have to use the external solar filter so taking darks can't be scheduled.
Superb... I have the dwarf 2, and would love to upgrade to the dwarf 3, but I really can't justify it, as I have no problem with my existing dwarf 2. I have a celestron, and an orion, but I find that I can be setup and be using the little scope, while I'm still setting up the bigger scopes. Plus, it is brilliant for taking a chance when it's cloudy... If it gets worse after a bit of viewing, you can be back indoors in minutes, packed up.
Hi Cuiv. I'm surprised that the See Star doesn't have this because I assume it uses similar software to the ASIair which does have a planning feature. I can see this would be a very popular upgrade. I'm not a smart scope guy, but the more I look at the Dwarf III the more I'm thinking maybe I should get one as a travel scope.
There is a balance to be had between producing SeeStar with it's functionality and the independant camera and ASIAIR products...They do not want to devalue the cost of those "premium manual " products...esle if it had everything, why would anyone buy a zwo camera? Dwarf Labs are in a different position, making these smart telescopes...so they will be trying to add as much useful functionality to undermine seestar. Smart Labs next upgrade with better sensor and larger focal length will be another chink against "traditionalism" of the manual setup... Dwarf Labs cannot be ignored any more, it will take so many sales away from Zwo. Everyone will be getting into Astrophotography by buying this...making the subject so accessible to even a 7 year old
My hunch is that this will probably be coming soon for the SeeStars. Planning is already in the ASIAir software, which is the base for the SeeStar software, and it's already implemented in third party control software (SeeStar_Alp). Just wish ZWO would take the lead in adding software features instead of waiting for it to show up on the Dawrf's first.
I assume they will follow with this feature. On the other hand the SeeStar recently got the feature of mosaic imaging, which somehow is simular to an imaging plan. That's why I think they will implement the planning feature too, in the near future.
Would it be possible to schedule the same target with different filters and have them stacked by the camera or would you need to stack them yourself on the PC?
Great intro to the Scheduler! 😁 I’ve received my DWARF 3 now, and I’m just waiting for the cloud accessories to clear… I assume that you do have to do the app-guided EQ alignment first of all? Also, does the Scheduler support use of the Wide angle lens in Astro mode?
Cuiv, your videos are always a joy to watch, thanks. How do you go about installing the beta update, I’m a numpty when it comes to things like this. I’ve had my D3 a week now and the weathers been terrible so far. It’s the standard treatment when getting some new Astro gear though 😢
Yes I want my Seestar s50 to do these software upgrades too! I am hoping since software does not have a high distribution cost (mostly development costs) zwo will keep matching some of these new features.
Hi Cuiv. Great video once again. I am already testing this beta version on my D3, but I am a little bit confused on how to do the scheduling in the EQ mode. Should I polar align before leaving the D3 alone or will it do it automatically?
Based on your reviews I think im going to get a dwarf 3. I've only dipped my toe in astrophotography. I have young children in the house, including a small baby, so something that's easy to use and will let me learn the basics us just what I need. Some have recommended the ZWO seestar S30. Is there a comparrison of these two? Based on what I know the Dwarf 3 has a better sensor and the functions you described in this video.
@CuivTheLazyGeek perfect. I don't mind the more complicated software if it allows me to learn about the hobby. I had heard about the EQ mode and this just seems to give more options. Thanks for the video and reply.
I will be purchasing my first telescope asap. Is this okay for a beginner? Can I use it also manually to just look around? I want to see those things in the sky everyone is trying to record in USA. 😅 I also want to see into deep space. Thank you for the review!
Thanks for your series of D3 videos, just ordered one. Im expecting a 3m delivery. Really like the portability and ease of setup. Curious if solar flares can be imaged (manual setup and processing ?) and would appreciate a couple of planetary images to help set expectations (update: found some on YT). Nice to know I can grow to planning, EQ mode and manual processing to get even better images.
Well, we will see, when the Dwarf 3 is delivered! By the way - is there a problem with dew on the lenses or does the electronic inside heat the lenses enough so it does not happen?
I am amazed by the nice nebulae you are showing. I am waiting to receive my Dwarf3 including the tripod. There is no chance I get it before January 2025. I prefer Dwarlab not to speed too much the fabrication because I prefer the camera to works well.
Another great vidio Cuive thank you. On another note. With all the new technology on mounts why hasn't anyone built a mount with a built in polar camera & stepper motors so it can automatically polar aligne itself & eventually track itself as well as PHD2 David Willis Australia
I've been waiting to get the Star Adventurer GTI, but having seen what this can do, I'm really thinking hard about just going with this and possibly selling my Star Adventurer 2i, or at least the extraneous gear for guiding, and i would probably relegate it to tracked sky images for landscape astrophotography. If ZWO implements an EQ mount and enables the ability to program multiple imaging sessions, then I could be swayed over to ZWO.
@@dw.in.michigan unless you need the cash, I would hang on to the gear you already have for a while if you buy a smart scope or even the SA GTi, if only for use as back up in case anything should go wrong. Running two rigs simultaneously capturing different targets or the same target within a different fov is another possibility. To me which astro photography gear to own isn't an either/or issue. There are some great tools available including the Dwarfs and See Stars, each have their plus points and their down sides, the more varied gear you have the more versatility you have in capturing images of the night sky. That's my view anyway.
I love smart telescopes for sheer convenience with a young family and being a shift worker. Had a Vaonis Vespera which was good, but not perfect. The sheer cost of it plus then the ludicrously priced filters which are all "extras" was the nail in the coffin and I sold it before the vespera 2 became too popular and it lost too much value. Pre ordered the dwarf 3 back in October (UK) and still not had it yet 😢 only now shipping first orders I believe, so hopefully get mine before Christmas 🤞 Was seriously tempted to cancel and get the Seestar S50 with it being on sale for black friday but the Dwarf 3 just seems too decent at everything to warrant compromising for something else! Have a nexstar 4se scope as a planetary viewing upgrade from my first telescopes but used it literally once since beginning of November due to appalling UK weather recently! As a plus, I suppose it means that I am not missing out by not having it yet. Looking forward to entering the world of astro photography with my "cover all bases" equipment. Whats that saying? Jack of all trades and. . . .😂
Very interested and looking forward to trying it on my Dwarf3. Have taken some sample data, and I seem to have something wrong, in that I only get 60 30sec raw frames per hour. Also only get 30 60sec raw frames... It's like there is a 100% overhead for each exposure. Do you get the expected number of raw frames? I don't see this with my Dwarf2, there is only a very short delay between exposures.
if my maths is right if you take 30 sec exposures for 8 hours you would of taken 960 subs OR 480 1min subs which is enough shots to stay within the 999 mark also you can choose the best time to start and finish before sunrise or blue sky starts to hit the sensor then do the same the next night then stack them all in DSS "deep sky stacker"
@@CuivTheLazyGeek thank you, as always :-) I saw options for the filters (vis, astro and dual band) but not for IR cut or pass. I'll find out when I receive my little dwarf ^^
the Seestar's have a built-in dark filter but the Dwarf's require you to manually attach the solar filter - hence can't be scheduled for temp. change by end of the night is the only downside.
Any user information on smart telescopes is appreciated. I'm still trying to decide between the Dwarf 3 vs Seestar S30 or even S50. I need something good for outreach but would also satisfy my pixel peeping tendencies with astrophotography, including solar.
Just an fyi, the Dwarf 3 website states an almost 5 month wait for the Dwarf 3. This space is moving so fast ..how many new releases will come out in that time. A more powerful version of the s50? ..I don't know. But it seems crazy to wait that long.
I got my Dwarf III yesterday, unfortunately it's broken 😞 have to send it back. Just one question, don't you have any fogging of the lenses due to humidity if taking shots all over the night?
It’s a shame pre orders are not being fulfilled on a first come first serve basis. We got people with order numbers in the 1800s ordered in July getting there’s YET those who ordered May 31st with order numbers in the upper 16900s to low 1700s who have not recieved anything yet. Unacceptable 1000%. They really are pulling names out of a hat as to who gets their order next. I saw that allegation on cloudy nights. Turns out it may be true
Hi Cuiv,, can you just confirm if your D3 also has slight backlash/play in the rotation of the base, quite small but enough to feel? Mine does but my D2 doesn't, I'd just like another opinion/experience if that's ok. I get 50% rejection of native stacking at 30 seconds with barely any wind, I think that's why. 45/60 is impossible due to this.
It may not be a hardware issue; their latest firmware update has enhanced tracking performance. I highly recommend giving it a try to determine if it resolves the issue.
@Leo_triplet Thanks, does yours have a noticeable backlash play in the base rotation? I can feel it moving freely side to side half a degree or so, very little effort (can blow it to cause it). D2 doesn't, it's solid.
@@amriddle01 This is normal and not a concern. The transmission inside the mount appears secure. Consider joining their recent beta test to check if the native stacking rejection rate remains high. If the issue persists, contact the DWARFLAB team for assistance.
I was just wondering why does Cuiv do so many smart telescope videos. I thought nobody cares about these toys. Are these just being handed out to influencers? Then I looked at view counts. It turns out these are getting the most views. I guess I was wrong and I don’t understand the current market. I have no interest in these things.
My AM5 and C6 Hyperstar doesn't fit under the seat in front of me when I fly, but the Dwarf does fit easily. That's one market you might not have considered.
1st... These are not toys, but actual astrophotography and EAA tools. While they can't compete in the quality of imaging you can get from many dedicated AP rigs, they do produce amazing results considering the price points. 2nd... These are gateway items to bring interest in astronomy and astrophotography to a larger audience who normally would not take up the hobby because of cost and difficulty. That's why you are seeing the higher view counts for the videos covering smart scopes. 3rd... The SeeStars and the Dwarfs are incredibly portable and easy to setup. So it's a great tool in the toolbag that allows experienced astronomy buffs to easily travel with a setup to do imaging while on the go or for the older folks amongst us to get imaging more often without having to struggle with setting up larger and more complicated dedicated rigs.
Welcome to the future. Astrophotography has suddenly become accessible to a lot more people in terms of cost and ability. You no longer need to spend 10k and understand a vast array of equipment to be able to photographs of deep space.

have you heard about a mosaic mode in the app?
it was on their site but no one talks about it
I asked for this feature a few days ago. It will be implemented soon.
Not available as of now
What about the auto focusing during the workplan? Very nice features ❤
Not there unfortunately, but then focus does seem to be quite stable on the D3
This is exactly why I have a Dwarf II and a SeeStar 50.
Will the planning feature be available for the Dwarf 2 also or is this Dwarf 3 only?
Signed up for Beta on the software. Fired up my Dwarf 2 but don't see the scheduling available. So I guess I answered my own question.
It'll be on both once it launches. The beta is just on D3 for the moment.
Telescope does everything that you don’t do your own astrophotography
Thanks the technology for taking the fun a way from us
Different people have different opinions about what they like in the hobby. Just don't use smart scopes, and don't denigrate those who do!
Can you choose ircut or irpass? What did you use?
Is always there the limit to 999 images per target?
if my maths is right if you take 30 sec exposures for 8 hours you would of taken 960 subs OR 480 1min subs which is enough shots to stay within the 999 mark also you can choose the best time to start and finish before sunrise or blue sky starts to hit the sensor then do the same the next night then stack them all in DSS "deep sky stacker"
You can choose the filter, you can see the choices I did in the video, there is no limit in planning mode
@@CuivTheLazyGeek thank you, as always :-)
I saw options for the filters (vis, astro and dual band) but not for IR cut or pass. I'll find out when I receive my little dwarf ^^
And the new D3 frame limit is ... Drum roll... 99999 !!
Have just used the planning feature, my only concern is the darks. How did you get around that?
my guessing is you shoot them 1st , good question though
the Seestar's have a built-in dark filter but the Dwarf's require you to manually attach the solar filter - hence can't be scheduled for temp. change by end of the night is the only downside.
Any user information on smart telescopes is appreciated. I'm still trying to decide between the Dwarf 3 vs Seestar S30 or even S50. I need something good for outreach but would also satisfy my pixel peeping tendencies with astrophotography, including solar.
Right now I'd recommend D3 over S30 any time, things are more complex compared to the S50
Deep Space Astro has a video with some tips to prevent dew forming on the Dwarf. Sorry to hear your Dwarf was broken. Hope the replacement is sound.
I wish ZWO Seestar had such a good software support than Dwarf
To be fair they've added mosaic mode! :)
Do you need view to Polaris?
No
Nope!
I may need a Christmas present...
Need comparison between s30
It’s a shame pre orders are not being fulfilled on a first come first serve basis. We got people with order numbers in the 1800s ordered in July getting there’s YET those who ordered May 31st with order numbers in the upper 16900s to low 1700s who have not recieved anything yet. Unacceptable 1000%. They really are pulling names out of a hat as to who gets their order next. I saw that allegation on cloudy nights. Turns out it may be true
That's a bummer... I wonder what's going on...
Dwarf III vs. S50 vs. S30?! S50 is way better than. The s30 I learned from your last video… but what about the Dwarf?!
Wait for another hour or so for a new video :)
Does it take a long time to receive this microscope? I’ve heard of people waiting months
I guess you thought wrong
My AM5 and C6 Hyperstar doesn't fit under the seat in front of me when I fly, but the Dwarf does fit easily. That's one market you might not have considered.
My videos cater to a lot of people :) to each their own!
