Thank you, Ashley, for the video promoting Afrika as a relocation destination esp. for AAs. I agree with you, and I just subscribed. I also appreciate your disclaimer that the video is based on your experience which is very honest. I think you one of the most honest TH-camrs I have watched.
Yes. Joburg is has the feel and a skyline of one of the big US cities. Nairobi has the same feel, skyline, and shopping malls but it is not as westernised, and I think it is important for AAs to know it is also a viable destination. While Joburg is suitable for middle Class and Upper Middle Class AAs, Nairobi can also accommodate entrepreneurial lower middle class and some near-poor AAs with little capital. I am Kenyan, so to avoid bias, I will use some comparative stats to show the difference and similarities between Joburg and Nairobi.
Although the Joburg Stock Exchange (JSE) is much bigger than Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), during the ten years before covid 19 pandemic, the latter grew by 74% compared to Joburg’s 9%. Nairobi has approx. 29,000 expats compared to Joburg’s 25,000. Nairobi was recently voted by InterNations, a community for expatriates & global minds, as 12th best city globally for expats to live and work. Joburg was 55th below Cape town at 41st. On the other hand, the three best hotels in Africa by ranking are (1) The Silo (Cape Twon), (2) Saxon (Joburg, and (3) Giraffe Manor (Nairobi).
In terms of Fintech, Nairobi is way ahead of the other African cities with 7.78 points; Lagos (2.98 points), Cape Town (2.73 points) and Joburg (2.53 points) (Data from Statistica). In terms of GDP, although South Africa has a significantly lager economy than Kenya, Joburg’s GDP growth rate is estimated at 2.1% compared to Nairobi’s 5.9%. South Africa has a Gini Coefficient of 0.65 compared to Kenya’s 0.41, which indicates that SA is a highly unequal society which explains the higher crime rate and potential political tensions. Kenya too has some potential political tensions, especially, during election time.
Although SA middle class has a much higher disposable income than Kenya’s middle class, Kenya's middle class is expected to continue expanding by an average annual growth rate of 5%, while 34% of South Africa’s middle class, referred to as "vulnerable middle class” decreased from 6.1 million to 2.7 million - what Deloitte refers to as “disappearing middle class”. The stats inducate that Nairobi has an edge in terms of small business opportunities and long term growth and profitability. However, as a Kenyan I am proud of my South African brothers and sisters for their resilient, consideriung that their freedom is only a mere 28 years old.
Some AAs TH-camrs, like Britney in Africa, observe that Nairobi, like Joburg, has the vibe of any US city and one can get most of the thing you desire as an AA. Generally, therefore, Kenya is an equally suitable for relocation city of all AAs from the elite to lower middle class and even near poor. Please discuss Nairobi in the future.

@Murage Gitari What a thorough analysis. Although am based in SA, I found that one other thing Kenya is ahead of, is the ease of doing business especially in terms of forex. So many forex bureaux in Nairobi offering different currencies where one can exchange whichever currency one has. Am sure there must be a limit that is allowed. But I never worry having my Rand in Kenya whenever I visit as I can pop in any forex bureau and exchange for Kenya shilling. Also in Kenya, one can also use US dollar while in SA only rand is accepted. Am visiting Kenya this December. Just want to see the infrastructural development done in recent years etc.

I'm coming to check it out, but, already setup in Egypt living lux. My views from 3 balconies is nature. I live in the suburbs near the Nile. My interior is hardwood floors, white furniture, lrg flat-screen TVs, doorman with cctvs. Three bedrooms and two have balconies, plus, a separate washroom with washer and dryer. The kitchen even has a dishwasher i never use. Granite countertops in all bathrooms and the kitchen. And, close to 3 embassies, plus, boutique retail shopping. What's the usd to their dollars ratio? Cause that will tell you how far your money will go. That's my metric on whether I can live the lifestyle I want. How much would my setup cost me in S. Africa too rent and too buy? Own property in America so first time renting in years. Just getting use to the costs.

all the sights they are talking about with their cameras. The cameras is not on them that much. Therefore the subscribers get to see what he's talking about.
On the other hand the women when they do a video they are inside with the cameras on their face 100% of the time. Like they want to show how pretty they look. Please go OUTSIDE so we can sightsee with you.Thank you.
