I did a similar repair to my 69 RS. When I took the car apart, the portion at the bottom of the windshield looked really good. I couldn't figure out why it wasn't rusty. After poking at it with a screwdriver I discovered it was all fiberglass covering major rust. The previous owner actually used metal shelf brackets to span the rust voids. I found similar low quality repairs all over the car. I guess its to be expected in a 50+ year old car especially if you live in a state that uses salt on the roads in winter like mine does.
Where did you purchase the cowls. I got R/s from Muscle car central (AMD)and needed to split and pull apart upper inside corner and patch and weld. D/s i got from American performance (Ebay) aka Taiwan absolute junk., Is there anything made in America anymore?
really nice job. Using the other dash panel to make that patch sure saved you some time and headache. Great way of doing that. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice video. Thank you for taking the time to post it. Just subscribed

Where did you find the correct rivets? Thanks
I found them on ebay
What did you end up doing with the vin tag?
I drilled out the rivets on the old dash and installed the vin tag on the new one with the correct rosette rivets.
and rust starts inside out right after welding
