    Looks great.. but I keep looking at the fantastic property we were getting glimpses of.
    LOVE IT. Folks that have never lived out in solitude just don't understand how nice it is with no Starbucks around. 👍

    Looks great. I see so many people that think there good at this and there morons. At least you show that a home guy can make it good.

    Looks good. Mitres were an ambitious choice outdoors, I wonder if they held shut. You can do what D Brown said and burnish them. They look nice...

    I bought a miter saw to trim around some 4x's and realized it's much harder than I thought. Gaps. Gaps everywhere...

    The wood work looks great I was interested in what you used for the stone wraps on the bottom of your column

      Thanks! It’s eldorado stone. A stacked stone veneer product. Color was called chapel hill. I also used it on a fire pit build video here.

    The advice you gave me for making the cut worked like a charm, 5 degree angle and 45 degree miter, what’s the name of that part of the column? I hate to bother you.

    • @JohnsonFamilyFarmstead
      @JohnsonFamilyFarmstead  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know I’m not really sure what that part is called! 😂I’m glad that it worked out for you!

    Great job, thanks for the tips! Can you tell me what base you mixed the stain with? I didn’t realize I needed more info until I went to pick up the stain today and was told by the guys at Lowe’s I had more decisions I had to make! 😄

      Thank you! It’s a sherwin Williams product. Canyon brown is the color. www.sherwin-williams.com/painting-contractors/products/superdeck-exterior-oilbased-transparent-stain

    How did you cut the bevel on the 2x10, I have to replace mines and I’m not sure on how to complete the task.

    • @JohnsonFamilyFarmstead
      @JohnsonFamilyFarmstead  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used a compound miter saw. Set the blade to 5 degrees / then cut the 45 degree angle. Took a couple practice cuts on some scrap first to make sure it lined up ok.

    • @dwgar1322
      @dwgar1322 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JohnsonFamilyFarmstead Just to make sure I got it, you set the bevel cut to 5 degrees and then set the miter to 45 which when the wood is set in place the inside is setting higher than the outer portion. Thanks for the prompt response.

    • @JohnsonFamilyFarmstead
      @JohnsonFamilyFarmstead  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that’s how I did it. Sounds like you got it down. Best of luck on your project. Thanks for watching!

    • @JohnsonFamilyFarmstead
      @JohnsonFamilyFarmstead  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! It’s holding up really well no separation at all, could use a coat of stain though.

    So I looked at Sherwin williams and did you mean Banyon Brown? Did you seal them with anything afterwards?
    Thanks

    • @JohnsonFamilyFarmstead
      @JohnsonFamilyFarmstead  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Canyon brown is the color of the stain that we used. No sealer just used the stain.

    What type of brackets did you use to tie your columns into the beams and where did you get them?

    • @JohnsonFamilyFarmstead
      @JohnsonFamilyFarmstead  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I ordered them from the internet. There is a left and right bracket. www.strongtie.com/boltedcolumncaps_columncaps/eccl-ccc-cct_productgroup_wcc/p/eccl.ccc.cct. I also painted them bronze to blend in better with the stain.

      Thanks for that. Sourcing some of the items I need for my covered deck build has been a pain. Especially on the lumber side. Finding quality boards and sourcing the glulams are difficult.

    How did you get to 5 degree bevel on the 2 x 10 base

    • @JohnsonFamilyFarmstead
      @JohnsonFamilyFarmstead  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used a compound miter saw and set the blade to 5 degrees / then cut the 45 degree angle. When you put them together they will have a slight pitch to them. Hope that helps.

    Getting ready to stain our new posts similar to yours.
    What stain did you use?

    How did you get the base caps beveled to the 5 degrees? I’m looking to fix my own with this feature due to rot but unsure of how to go about it. Thanks

    • @JohnsonFamilyFarmstead
      @JohnsonFamilyFarmstead  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used a compound miter saw set to 5 degrees. Then cut the 45 angles when you put it together it has a little slope for any water to run off.

    • @jaredhanna8707
      @jaredhanna8707 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Johnson Family Farmstead thanks for the tip! It took me a couple tries to get the right angle for the columns I was working on, 6 degrees ended up being just right for the ones I was replacing.
