It’s not just Mari’s perfectionism that made Sunny blow up. A book in the Lost Library points out that Sunny is feeling annoyed by the playing violin. He can’t spend as much time with his friends, he’s missing out on cartoons. He has to practice with a tutor for hours. He’s losing confidence in himself. But what can he do? His friends spent all summer raising money to buy him this violin in order to spend more time with his sister. He can’t let his friends down, he can’t let his sister down. He has to keep going even if he despises it, even if there isn’t much reward, even if his fingers hurt. That’s why Sunny was so angry. He let all those frustrations and expectations build to the point of no return. He felt like he did not have a choice.
@@JabamiLain Well it makes sense cus it shows that in the early parts that he was still hanging out with everyone for a while before he started staying in white space.
@@vastoking3419 poor kid. The worst part is, Mari was in a tough spot too, so she couldn't tell him to rest. That performance was important for her academic future. She should have at least told Sunny that part though. Maybe then, they could have figured something out. Ahhhh ! The evils of a child's innocence. I wished the game would let us have an actual dialogue with Mari. To talk about her feelings too.
@@JabamiLain Actually you reminded me of something with that last bit, the "I wished the game would let us have an actual dialogue with Mari." thing, it's my own take on the start of an Omari AU of sorts Basically, it starts when they're atop the stairs (Mari and Sunny) Mari is angry at Sunny, yelling at him because of the broken violin, then she says "Answer me, come on!, ANSWER ME!" so, Sunny does, and he goes on a small rant, about his frustrations on Mari, the duet, the tiring days and nights practicing with her or a tutor, and that he hates the violin, Mari breaks down in a fit of anger, and she accidentally pushes Sunny down the stairs, freezing as she sees his brother tumbling down the stairs, before running down to check on him, crying, she shakes him, panicking. " Wake up Sunny...Please-...Please please please- " but his brother doesn't answer, his eyes shut, he feels...cold to the touch, Mari thinks for a moment, wondering what she could do, before dragging him outside. And that's the whole idea!, idk why I wrote it all out but yea
I think Sunny's mom was afraid for him because she knew he somehow killed Mari on accident, and would follow suit killing himself out of guilt. I mean, I know I would if I did that, especially at such a young age.
There's always the possibility that she wasn't dead when she hit the bottom, but was killed upon being carried up. When someone experiences a fall like that, moving them is the last thing you should do. A lot of times, they could just be unconscious, and moving them could just end their life.
That's a great point. If she had any kind of internal bleeding, SUNNY would have had no idea about it, and moving her would likely have just expedited the outflow of blood, let along moving her upstairs. 💀
Or maybe was killed when she was hanged, the lack of oxygen woke her up for her to breathe but can't. Confused, she tried to move. Can't, she looked around, and sees her little brother and his best friend watching. Tried calling out to them but no answer, tried to signal to them and same result. She could only look at them as they walked away. The suddenly Sunny looks back, and she had hope that he would save her. But he quickly rushed into the house, same with Basil. Mari wondered: was this my fault? Was I too forceful? Did the recital stressed him out? As she glimpses one last time at the house, she accepted her fate. Thinking to herself, she deserved this for treating him like that. "I'm sorry" was what her last thought were.
one thing i want to point out: we know from the coffin scene during the entrance to black space that mari had an open casket, or clear casket funeral. this means that mari's body was sent to a mortician; you can't just have a open casket funeral without prepping the body. this raises the possibility that an autopsy or inspection was done during the process to confirm the cause of death for the death certificate or if the death is considered unexpected or suspicious. if sunny's parents didn't know, or they lied about the cause of death to cover, any person doing an autopsy that's worth their salt would immediately notice a discrepancy. when you hang yourself, or when you asphyxiate to death, those are very, very noticeable and distinct injuries. your neck breaks in a specific fashion or your windpipe is crushed. the pathologist would absolutely notice that mari had died from a different type of neck injury or from internal bleeding resulting from a fall, and would've notified the parents or the police if the parents are insisting upon a specific type of death that doesn't match the injuries. considering no one's in jail, i'd say they either knew the real events beforehand and told the pathologist/mortician that or figured that out through the autopsy. as far why sunny or basil never faces potential consequences, im not entirely sure on that front, but the only person who would likely press charges for the accidental death would be sunny's dad as no one else knows what really happened. he instead opts to disown sunny and leave while sunny's mom keeps up the facade that it was a suicide, which is why no legal consequences are dulled out. the only thought of doubt i have is that death certificates are public record, so it's possible someone could simply request the death certificate and learn the truth that way, but who seriously goes and looks at a death certificate? i certainly haven't heard of that happening, like ever (personally). in further support of sunny's parents knowing: there's literally a medkit placed at the bottom of the stairs in the game. there's no way in hell that isn't intentional. in conclusion: sunny's parents absolutely know the truth, and didn't legally cover it (meaning the truth isn't really hidden, just obscured), only socially after they learned the truth. they figured out the truth either shortly after mari was found or after the body was sent to be prepped for a funeral.
Im pretty sure it was very implicitly stated that Mari did not die fast. In that scene during The Truth where you have to walk around the hospital beds demonstrates Sunny’s panic as he watches Mari die. Her bed goes from “this person is breathing steadily” to “this person is breathing weakly” to “this person is not breathing.”
In one of the scrapped photos Sunny laments about how it hurts but he’s doing all of this for her so why is she yelling at him? I believe that alone shows us that the reason Sunny lashed out the way he did was because this wasn’t the first time Mari yelled at him for not playing good enough. It’s extremely likely that due to her perfectionist nature and the limited availability of time that she had that she began snapping at Sunny when he wasted it by not playing good enough. This is probably where Sunny’s insecurity and anger about not being good enough stemmed from. That is what ultimately led up to the accident, it was in Sunny’s nature to just quietly take it and work harder and harder to get better but after something happened that day and with the weight of all that pressure he finally snapped and reacted in a volatile way that was completely unlike him. This is why his broken mind has split Mari’s personality into the Mari at the picnic basket and SOMETHING that’s always looming nearby, judging him for every mistake he’s ever made. He doesn’t want to see his sister that way so his brain doesn’t allow him to and distorts the truth of her nature. Leading us as the audience to have an unrealistic expectation that Mari is just perfect in every way. It’s also why no matter how many times SOMETHING tells Omori that she loves him, that he never acknowledges it. He’s detached all of Mari’s flaws from her and has demonized them completely as a coping mechanism in his grief. In doing so he was able to retreat into happy memories with her while ignoring the reality that his sister wasn’t an angel, she was human and flawed. In turn he’s also detached all of Mari’s good traits from SOMETHING. I think a big reason why he’s made a martyr out of her in his mind is because he’s seeing her the way she desperately wished she was when she was alive to honor her memory; as a supportive friend who was always there for everyone, a loving and attentive sister, and a perfect daughter.
You hadn’t mentioned it but another piece of evidence that points towards Basil helping hang the body is one of the books of Sunny’s repressed memories in the headspace library. It’s a memory book that goes into detail about Basil reading a murder mystery book where they literally disguise a murder as a suicide in the exact same way Basil ends up doing with Mari. That means that book is what inspired Basil to do what he did to begin with. Sunny remembers Basil fanboying over the book bc he had enjoyed reading it, and he even said he’d let Sunny borrow it so it’s implied via subtext that that’s how he got the idea to save Sunny by framing Mari’s death as a suicide.
Adding onto this, one of the pictures in the photo album showed a picture of the group enjoying in the tree house. Here, Sunny can be seen reading a book. Trying to read the text below it reveals that Sunny "finally decided to read the book" Basil gave him. Assuming that it is the same murder mystery, then that'd add to weight why Sunny and Basil decided to go with that plan.
I know you said it's debatable on who actually killed her. I think that based on the whole moral of the game being forgiveness(most importantly self-forgiveness), it would make the most sense that Sunny did it. The more important fact being that during the Truth segment you find yourself between Mari and Sunnys bed on the day of the recital. In that moment you are free to inspect the body in Maris bed. It tells you that, "this person is not breathing." Before the body was moved upstairs, it was said that "she looks like she's sleeping." This would lead us to believe that the eyes were closed then, and also when she was in bed. I would suspect that one or two of the eyes opened during the time Sunny spent looking at the trees and leaves. Thinking back, it is really impressive that Basil got her strung up by himself, but maybe that was adrenaline. All in all, great video dude. But where did you find the dialogue about the man shutting his car door and driving away?
@@i_omor. Thanks! Well it took me a lot of research to find just enough to back my claims. They hid these really well. Especially that correlation between SUNNY's mom and BASIL. I am almost certain that narrative link was intentional.
@@noux i agree! I knew she said that, but it really is Basils iconic phrase. Hero even says something similar when you find Basil in his room if you don't save him. I think it was "you go on ahead, we'll be okay."
Somehow you made this story feel like a true crime case. Fantastic editing, really interesting questions and the added voicework from Cat really added to the intensity of it. Amazing work!
Thanks man. The bad thing with working on videos like these is that real life gets in the way and the progress on the editing goes way down. The style is going to stick but it's probably going get scaled down the future. I've been experimenting with a lot of styles in the past. Also, it wasn't my intention for it turn into a true crime video, but alas, I suppose I've also been watching too many JCS, Nexpo-type videos recently. But I'm glad that it turned out alright for you!
we know what happened next because we know kel basil aubrey and hero. it would take time but they'd become friends again 100% but hero would probably lash out a lot
I love how well this video explores the different facets of the entire situation and giving a deeper analysis on the day it all happened. While I personally still think the main goal of the game's ending was to simply drive home the fact that no matter what the friend group's reaction was, Sunny should be able to forgive *himself*, I think it's a very heavy question put on us to decide whether we should as well and I'm glad that you're reflecting on the different factors that caused it all to happen might paint a better picture for those watching this video.
Thank you haha. The main idea for that came from the fact that I've interviewed other people in the past who've given their opinion. Some discussed about the friend group, but others also talked about their own feelings as well. I thought that it was only fair that I added my opinion as well. What surprised me most was that some people didn't actually forgive Sunny. So, I strived to give the widest perspective possible with this video, with any information I can find to justify or explain some things. I hope that some of the more on-the-fence among us could overturn their opinions.
The gamemakes it very clear that Mari either died on impact or shortly after being put to bed. "This person is not breathing" is a censored way to say "this person is dead." This indirect phrasing is important bcs it reinforces the theme of Sunny being unable to directly admit what happened. In Headspace we see a similar indirect way to say "death": "X is not alive."
omfg this is such a great point. it's never "death" or "dead" but "not alive" or "toast". I literally never thought of this thank you so much for this eye-opening comment
I think everyone take part of this incident, Mari being too pushy, perfectionist and unable to adapt with sunny, Basil with such crazy idea to cover it up, Sunny not being able to get hold of his action and emotion
Wow, you really put a lot of effort on this video, it even made me cry a bit. This game is really heartbreaking, I just wanna give a hug to all of the main cast and pay for their terapist
personally i always read the parents dialogue as just them experiencing grief in different ways. the dad was in such heavy denial and pain that he couldn't take it anymore and just left the family behind. "you are not my son," to me, isn't a direct quote, it's how sunny felt when his dad left. we have to take everything in headspace and black space with a grain of salt, not everything is going to be literal. this is how sunnys subconscious was coping with everything, and a lot of it is through a filter and may not exactly represent what went down. the mom is similar but obviously not as extreme. i took it that her grief made her paranoid, worrying that sunny would take his own life too. shes doubting herself as a mother and pushes that onto sunny, begging him not to take similar action. i understand your interpretation, and also empathize with it. i would be lying if that thought hadn't crossed my mind at all. when i first saw the dads dialogue, that was my initial interpretation of events. but the more i reflect on the story of the game, i don't think that narratively it makes a lot of sense that the parents were in on it. the game was about sunny repressing the truth for 4 years, and finally being able to acknowledge and take the first step towards healing: forgiving himself. to me, that message is dampened when sunny and basil arent the only ones in the know-how. i totally respect your reasoning, because yeah, from a logistics perspective, someone probably should have figured out what really happened. but you also have to keep some things in mind. faraway town is a small area where everyone knew each other. and i highly doubt that ANYONE would suspect sunny and/or basil to be involved and took everything at face value. they saw a suicide scene and believed it. i definitely agree and understand your points about fingerprints and their alibi, but at the same time, i don't think the police would even get as involved as what you suggest in the video. idk, this is just my opinion and i'm aware i'm heavily biased. i just think the death of mari being an elaborate conspiracy doesn't sit right with me. sunny accidentally killed her, and basil helped cover it up. case closed. but that's just me. anyway, great video lmao. fantastic editing and presentation, especially considering your size. you should be every proud of this video.
You make some very good points, and actually? It makes a LOT of sense. I do think his parents knew SOMETHING was wrong, as all parents do. But if that's the case... Where were they???
Yeah that's always how I perceived it. I don't believe that Sunny's or anyone else's parents were aware of the truth, and I guess the lack of further investigation after an autopsy of the body could just be chocked up to lazy police
Considering I played the two games back-to-back, I had emotional whiplash when I heard the iconic Disco Elysium horns in this video lol. surprised how this doesn't have more views!
Here's my guess at what happened afterward: (It may not be canon all the way though-) Sunny tells the truth. They all can't believe it. Kel is horrified, but keeps his cool. Aubrey is mad. Hero is absolutely pissed. Both Hero and Aubrey start yelling at Sunny, asking him what he was thinking, and why he did it. Sunny lets the two yell at him, while his fists are clenched and his eyes are faced towards the floor. Aubrey stops suddenly, as Hero completely takes over the conversation, now screaming at Sunny. She takes a step back, and starts to feel a sort of sympathy for him. Neither her, Kel, or Sunny had ever seen Hero this mad. She was even slightly scared. Kel calls out to Hero to try to snap him out of it. Once. It doesn't work. Twice. It doesn't work. Kel: "HERO!" Hero: "WHAT?!" Kel: "Maybe calm down! He's crying." Hero turns towards Sunny, who's hands are covering his face as he lets out a couple of soft sniffles. Hero immediately regrets what he had done, and tries his best to comfort Sunny. Kel and Aubrey join in as well. The entire room is silent. Sunny eventually calms down. Hero: "Look, we can't forgive you and Basil that easily after what you two have both done. At least, not yet. I'm sure you probably know this by now." Kel: "But still, Sunny, thanks for.. actually telling us the truth, I guess. It must've been hard." Kel laughs nervously. Sunny: "A..Are we still friends..?" Aubrey: "Heh. Of course we are, dumbass. After all, friends are always there for each other, aren't they?" She glances at Hero. "Now who's in for a group hug?" Everybody subconsciously agreeing, goes in for a hug. The room falls silent as the friends embrace. Kel: "Maybe.. after you move out, we can call you up one day, and we can tell you, as a group, that we're ready to forgive you. Just, not now, though. It'll take time." Kel flashes a nervous smile at Sunny. "We should probably be heading out soon, your mom's probably waiting. Basil, do you want to come with us?" Basil nods his head. Kel: "Okay, then. Lead the way, Sunny!" All the friends walk out the door, with a heavy weight being lifted off Sunny and Basil's shoulders.
Something I feel Aubrey might get hit by, and something I feel people don't say enough. She's literally as bad as Sunny, she just got away with it because of Hero. She pushed Basil into the water in a fit of rage. The same action, same emotion, same ultimate outcome of death. Sunny wasn't so lucky. She was.
Now I remember why I subscribed to you - exemplary work, and one of the best, most comprehensive analyses I’ve seen on this topic. Brilliant editing to go along with it; feels like a culmination of the last two years of this channel what with the presentation of the photos’ descriptions and the breakdown of so many factors as originally highlighted in your interview videos. Damn fine work, Renoux. Just don’t work yourself to death over projects like these, alright?
These sorts of comments are what keeps me going. Thank you for your continued support! Admittedly, I burned myself out a ton of times working on this video. It was meant to come out as early as 3 months ago, but like MARI, I have my own struggles with perfectionism as well and the progress went wayyy down. Eventually, it came to the point where I didn't even know if I could finish the video. The last 7 days were part of my midterm break, and I finally managed to settle down and finished this damn video. I have definitely learned a lesson working on videos like these 😓. More often videos is definitely coming instead of more over-edited ones. But I do have plans to release one of these overly complex analyses once every few months or so.
@@nouxIt’s great to hear that you’ll be making things more frequently, I’d love to see what’s in store from you. However, please don’t feel stressed about maintaining such a high standard in future videos; you’re developing your style and more experimentation is always a good thing. Having shorter videos will expedite that process, after all. Also, I find it admirable that you were able to push through your burnout and get this done. I do hope you’re pleased with the result; as for me, it’s assuredly perfect!
Thanks man! It really means a lot to hear you say that. I can be stubborn at times about quality and won't release anything if it doesn't meet my vision. However, a tradeoff between frequency and quality is inevitable. And you're right about more experimentation will expedite the process of finding a good balance between that. Right now, I have a lofty goal of one video per week. And OMORI inevitably can't always be the only topic I stick to, so I only hope you'll be patient with me. Regardless, your comments made my day. Thank you again! And I hope I'll see you in future videos!
18:40 Something I kinda think is important to mention here. There are two sections where we can find the same situation, but this dialogue is only presented in one of them. First one, collecting the last hangman key and going into the hole, first time I took this as just being us playing as omori and not sunny, second one in black space 2 in the tall forest area, I think, where sunnys father doesnt tell us that dialogue. I am not that much of a theorist, but I think sunnys father may have known about the staging, but not his mother. I find that difference between the two situations weird, and feel like it all may have a deeper meaning
I mean then you think about all of this it's both sunny and mari fault, sunny pushed himself to keep playing over and over and over again just for be closer to his sister again, just for passing sometimes whith her again but mari perfectionist mind made of all this situation worst for sunny, if he doesn't play good enough it would disappoint or making mari a bit mad because it's not perfect so that mean mari probably started to put some pressure on sunny during the time he had difficulty to get better and in sunny side its understable to snap after a while everything he just wanted was to be whith his sister a bit again he forced himself to keep going something he doesn't really like just for still be closer to her and in return he got pressure, huge expectation and see himself having to keep playing over and over again for now not be closer to her but more for not disappointing her so yea sunny action was a bit understable but... In mari side its understable as well her and the gang literally worked during vacation for months for sunny, for giving him a violin as a gift and as the in game picture we saw everyone was so happy to see sunny playing the violin since it was their gift they worked hard to get it so yea its understable that mari was pissed off then sunny broke it In the end all of this could be avoided easily if during that day sunny would be honest with mari about why he started to play his violin along her, why did he had enough and broke the violin heck if he managed to talk about this to mari sooner during a day of practice of something like that he wouldn't even have to break the violin by anger, they just didn't understand eachother at the moment and didn't tried to that was the biggest mistake of they life
I know it was Basil's idea to fake mari's suicide, but he deserves to be forgiven too! Like, sunny was freaking out and as his best friend,he only wanted to make him feel alright,he wanted to protect Sunny from the punishment, and like it was so fast and at the time it was the only thing Basil could think to help Sunny. Besides,he was feeling as guilty as Sunny. Both made mistakes, and Basil deserves forgiviness as well.
When you were discussing mari's cause of death, i noticed something. you said we dont know when maris eyes opened, which is partially true. however, if you look at the image descriptions again, youll realize when she was pushed down the stair and sunny went to her, he said she looked like shes sleeping, which means her eyes must have been closed. just a thought...
Really cool video, it explained a lot to me about what really happened that day, anD created some really interesting questions. But, something I want to address something, at 23:40, you say that he doesn't seem the angry type, because he's quiet and all, and that's a fair assumption. But, speaking from experience, being the quiet and introvert that I am, and seeing other that are the same, introverts have lots of problems, being emotional is one of them, not that he gets always emotional, but, sometimes it just breaks free, just like it did with Mari. I've gotten really angry and frustrated for nothing, and have done things I really regret, and well, you wouldn't expect that from the quiet kid.
There's a high chance that Mari died while being hanged... Sunny's parents probably noticed, which explains the reactions. The one that got "away with it" was Basil... reason why his "something" never truly dissapears, rather it goes back inside him after his attempt. The stairs are big, Mari had wooden scabs all over her body, and she landed on top of a broken violin, yet she didn't bleed, not a single drop. Probably internal injuries, not being better by being dragged. When people get hanged, they try to protect their windpipe, it's painful, but if Mari was paralized, with internal bleeding, she woke up in the middle of pain, and her bloodshot eye, desperate for help, was the last thing Sunny saw. Sunny saw his sister as she was taking her last breath, or probably saw just mere seconds after she passed. The tree being cut could be the final piece of evidence thar wasn't reported. Mari's vowels gave up and is possible her physical wounds started bleeding and smearing the tree. It was cut not only for painful memories but to protect Sunny and Basil's involvement (Basil NEVER spoke about it, so he was ironically being indirectly helped getting rid of evidence). Tragic... but Mari died in pain... it wasn't a quick death, rather an agonizing and painful one... 😢
I don't think that Sunny's friends forgave him. Or Basil, for that matter. The unforgiving part in my opinion doesn't stem from the accident, in which Mari apparently died (being pushed down the stairs), but what followed after. Even if it was Basil's idea to protect Sunny, they... staged a suicide of his sister. And hid the truth. And avoided punishment of any kind. As a friend i'd be shocked, sad, disappointed and outright livid with both of them. This is especially applicable for Hero, for obvious reasons. Besides, even if they were in shock - EVEN AT TWELVE YEARS OLD - they could have called the ambulance! Maybe she was savable, after all... I'm glad that Sunny forgave himself. Atonement through his life of guilt should be a good fit to face as consequence of what he and Basil had done. But that doesn't mean that either of then deserve forgiveness. Especially from their friends. After all, they not only killed her, but also "covered" it, lied about it AND didn't try to rescue Mari in the first place (by calling the ambulance or ANYONE for that matter). Now excuse me, I think I'm gonna cry somewhere. This game destroyed me.
i think she broke her neck on the fall downstairs. When people die they look like sleeping until they change colour. This happend with my son he looked like he was just sleeping but not breathing. Through rigiour mortis the eyes are forced open because the body gets stiff through the muscles stiffening up.
@@ft-teg2804 Hidden pneomonia. He was so sich his heart just gave out. His lung was completely destroyed so it got to his heart. Doctors only could now about it through blood Tests and x-Ray
I think that if any respite can be found in any of this it’s that we know that sunny and basil forgave themselves due to the secret ending but the question is wether or not their friends did personaly I think it would take a long ass time but I’m pretty sure they would after a very long time
want to share my opinion on this subject. First, I will talk about the day and before Marinin died, and then I will write the questions of why she should be forgiven and whether she has been forgiven. First of all, as you said, I think it is possible that Sunny had certain psychological disorders before these events. Because her father left her, we understand that Sunny's father always cared about Mari. Sunny didn't mean much to him. Sunny's mother was probably more or less like this, but it is clear that she valued Sunny more than her father. At the same time, Sunny always considered herself useless. He was the youngest of the group, the most useless (this is his own opinion), and his introversion caused him to be unable to let go of these negative ideas. But he was still healthy, happy, and despite the negative thoughts, he still didn't cause anything bad. It may not work, but it didn't harm anyone until that day. Sunny's real breaking point was that day. If she had not wanted to play the violin, her older sister Mari would have put on a magnificent show on her own, but she had ruined everything just because of her own selfishness. There was only one day left until the recital, no matter how hard he tried, what he did wouldn't work. He was probably angry at himself and he wanted to take out his anger somewhere (he needed it) and that thing was his violin. You already know the rest. I think Sunny should be forgiven, anyway, this was most likely an accident and he suffered the price of this accident like Basil for 4 years. He could have not told the truth and talked to his friends on the phone (or even visited) from time to time, but Sunny told the truth despite all the negative odds and maybe he will kill all his friends except Basil forever. lost. As for the possibility of his friends forgiving him? I think he will be forgiven like the majority, after all, Omori is a game about friendship, but I think this process takes a very long time and they will never be able to look at Sunny the same way. What they will probably be angry about is that he hid this fact for 4 years. Thank you for reading.
Tbh my answer to why the eye opened on the last photo is that it resembles Something, whichll *haunt* sunny and basil for the next years 4 of their life. As we are 16 in the game, we experience the last year of being haunted by something. It could also mean that Something has a phase that represents Mari (hanging body), which could be the answer to the eye opening. Or another thing is that, Something couldve been Mari, because thats his phase. Tbh this is just all my thoughts and *I might edit this message for more and further information.*
I really enjoyed OMORI and the game's story and when the truth was showed to me it felt like a gut punch and the final duet was the same, the scene where Mari saved sunny from drowning and the two of them standing there just for the next frame to be of sunny alone broke my heart The game did a really good job with the story telling, but something bothers me , we never get to know how Mari feels about all that, the closest thing to Closure on that topic is in the post-credits scene ( in the good ending ) where the "something" disappears behind sunny and basil, if you look closely you can see that the eye on the "something" behind sunny closes, knowing that "something" represents Mari, i can only think of two scenarios 1, That is a sighn that Mari found pace and now she can rest 2, sunny's guilt is gone but that does not inply that Mari is at pace this game is a masterpice but, if they added a cutscene where Mari said goodbye to sunny like in headspace but in reality, that would have been the best What is your opinion ?
It’d make sense that the parent actively covered up the death as one point you you bring up is that sunny did not have any agency in hanging mari, basil did and likely his parent helped covered it but I believe it make sense they covered it cause in terms of storytelling it’d make sense, in the final boss, Omori asks when will sunny stop letting people take care of him, “please be a good boy sunny”, it thematically make sense as they’re in a way enabling sunny to run from the truth which the game is against thematically, just my thought tho
I think that MARI wasn't dead from being pushed onto the violin and she was killed by being hung. One reason why I think this is because dead bodies are not light and it is heavily implied that MARI's 'corpse' was light. Also because her eye opened after they had hung her. If it was a muscle spasm or something, I feel like it would've happened sooner. Also, I think it was BASIL's plan to hang MARI because the captions for the photos were all from SUNNY's point of view and they were saying 'a voice told me to do this, or do that' not 'I did this, I did that.' Either this was BASIL's plan, or SUNNY's trauma had gotten so bad that he was hearing voices already. 🤷♀️ idk, but i dont think its SUNNY's fault.
What I like most about the game is that it’s never told to us that sunny is forgiven or not Because it’s not the important part, the important part is telling the truth But if I’m being honest, they probably won’t forgive them and that’s OK
I think everyones reaction would be the opposite of their reaction to maris death so Hero was sad he would be mad at figuring out the truth, aubrey was mad now she would be sad/betrayed, kel accpeted it now he would deny it.
I believe she died by being hanged because when sunny looked atvher face he said "she looks asleep" which implies her eyes were closed but as we see when shes hanging her eyes are very clearly open
I myself have thinking, would you forgive Sunny and Basil? To be real i can't tell because my friend never meet stairs and violin that close because of her brother so i can't be sure but i think 4 years is almost enough to forgive if you think about it. Again I know people are diffrent but im talking from myself kinda. I would propably forgive Sunny pretty quick, Basil would be worse considering that he could've killed Mari but he did this to protect Sunny and i couldn't find curage in myself to be mad at him. Anyways i think that Kel saw everything, like literaly he is just tired of his best friends griefing over Mari. He misses him alot, he couldn't be there for his friends when they needed him because they reminded him of her. But I think Kel would understand. Hero said that everythink happend this way because they weren't here for eachother. So I think he would blow on Kel when they will talk about Sunny and Basil and then Kel would kinda talk sense to him about it all. About fact like Sunny just spend 4 years closed in the room from grief, it was an accident. Still Hero would have hardest time forgiving and it only depends on the moment he would allow him self to let go, when he would once allow this thought of forgivness to his head. Aubrey(it could be kinda unrealistic because im sunburner lol), Aubrey has the issue of being very, very emotional. But she almost did exactly what Sunny's did, literally i think this is a way opened by author just for an excuse so Aubrey would forgive Sunny. She almost killed Basil the same way Sunny (not almost) killed Mari. She wouldn't see it at first but she would think about it sometime or Kel would talk sense to her, or she would have a talk with Hero someday and they both kinda having same conclusions. I don't know sometime in future i would make a mod about it or an full length animation but i cant draw and i cant code so propably this dream ain't never gonna make up to public.
The video is really great and an editing masterpiece, but when in the game does ti say that sunny's parents' marriage was falling appart? I am not questioning, I just wanted to now.
Like most things surrounding Black space it's very abstract, but yeah the dialogue given im the video. Seeing the father chopping down the tree saying "you are not my son" and shutting his car door and driving away implying that he distanced himself from the family, plus his dad not being present whatsoever the entire game. And with his mother having reacted differently too, not wanting to lose him as well. While this was very clearly more in reference to Mari, very easy to speculate that the mom could just be trying desperately to keep together any semblance of family that's left with Sunny. And also divorced/stressed marriages seems to be a running theme in the game. Aubrey's dad was implied to be abusive and abandoned them (IIRC also shortly after this incident) Both of Basil's parents were away most of the time for work and didn't have/spend time taking care of him, etc.
Dark interpretation here: While Basil might have "suggested" the thing, i kinda interpreted that Sunny's first idea while in dissociation back when she fell was actually to commit the thing himself. That is the meaning of the black lightbulb actually, the repressed idea he wanted to repress so badly... Because in the end, Basil, who's shown able to delve deep into blackspace (symbollically meaning he is able to tell most if not all of Sunny's dark thoughts), got the "idea" of staging it from sunny's behaviour. Basil being not in the right mind either and being "kind" in his personality, didn't want to lose Sunny too. Perhaps Sunny's mom noticed it too, and thats why she was the one that said "i don't want to lose you too", because she was afraid sunny would actually do it when she discovered the truth, while his father just saw how twisted it became and out of what mari would probably have wanted, helped hide the thing but never wanting to know anything of sunny again because he couldn't forgive him even tough he knew Sunny didn't want that to happen. The father wanted that tree to fall, because if it weren't there, not mari nor sunny/basil would have gotten that twisted idea. ...
That would be a possibility. Another one I thought, is that Basil himself had already been considering doing it for himself before the inccident, using Mari's situation as some sort of opportunity to represent himself through her. This theory stems from a detail a fic writer pointed out. Why and how would a kid his age know what knot to make in order to keep her body hanged, without untying the rope ? The HeadSpace, while belonging mostly to Sunny, seems to also hold some details from Basil. What if it's a shared delusion ?
@@JabamiLain no way in HELL would Basil have thoughts like that or even close of that nature. to support this statement, refer to the photograph of Basil's birthday where his wish was... nothing! he had everything he wanted: caring friends, a delicious ahh cake in front of him, his best friend Sunny frfr! and the fic writer pointing out things like the smarty-pants they are.yeah, hell naw that doesn't mean a thing. I must remind y'all that we are not in the 1950's or whatever where this kind of information could not be obtained through traditional methods. I must also remind you that the kids read lotta books (evident by their bookcases and numerous mentions of "I read this I read that"), which could be the source of that information or maybe there was something in the comics shop with that kind of stuff, especially on Halloween! speaking of Halloween stuff, maybe some horror movie with that kind of information was being aired that faithful night! if they could watch cartoons together, surely they would be able to watch some horror movies as well, isn't that right? and I'm not gonna say anything about shared delusions because I'm pretty sure nobody is able to tell whether anything is true or not because everything in the game is up to 🌈interpretation🌈 so like yeah think what you want, maybe even consider Mari alive and kicking in the cold ass forests of Siberia, taking a break from everyone frfr she'll be back in 2 months on god
I have a theory... a big theory: First of all: Sunny's parents knew the truth, Sunny told them after the funeral (that's why they didn't call the police, because they saw that there was no concrete reason to call the police.) But when Sunny's mother says: "We'll protect you.", is from his friends knowing the truth, because they didn't do anything when Sunny told them the truth, they also didn't tell anyone in Basil's family about it. The phrase: "Be a good boy..." tells Sunny to never hide the truth or do anything like that again. Sunny's father left out of anger because he couldn't believe that his own son covered up his own sister's death, so he says, "Stay away, you're not my son." Second: I have two speculations about how Mari died... when she fell down the stairs and when she was on the rope. WHY, IT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE! It does, it does make sense and I'll explain... Mari fractured her spine or neck when she fell down the stairs, everyone knows that a fall on the stairs can be fatal, and the first thing that happens is a broken bone, specifically the spine or neck. (or both depending on the case). So Mari was already dead when she fell. The other speculation is that she was passed out and paralyzed, as if she had become quadriplegic when she broke her bones and when she woke up, she was on the gallows, she couldn't move, couldn't even call for help... nothing... she could only see and suffer until she died on the gallows or she just woke up, saw the situation she was in and passed out again... like that... dying. Third: Do Sunny and Basil deserve to be forgiven? Yes! WHY IS IT ALL MARI’S FAULT! BRO, SHE WAS A DAMN SELFISH PERFECTIONIST! SHE FORCED SUNNY TO PLAY THE DAMN VIOLIN WITHOUT HIM WANTING TO OR BEING GOOD!! THAT'S WHY HE PUSHED MARI AND THROWED VIOLIN OFF THE STAIRS, HE WAS SO QUIET THAT HE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO SHOW WHAT HE FELT, WITH SO MUCH STORED ANGER, HE DID ALL THAT!! BECAUSE OF MARI, SHE IS THE REAL BLAME, SHE DIDN'T EVEN ASK SUNNY IF HE WANTED THE VIOLIN! SHE TRAINED FOR I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY HOURS A DAY AND THAT STRESSED SUNNY, SHE MADE HIM LOSE MOMENTS OF HIS LIFE FOR A STUPID RECITAL THAT *SHE* WANTED TO DO!! Question for you: Did Sunny's parents get divorced? I don't know if it's from the game or just theory. Thank you for reading, I hope you understand what I meant. Thank you and tchau! 🇧🇷 (Bro, I almost cried writing this shit, I'm listening to Jack Stauber and writing this in the translator because my English isn't so good, in fact I had to rewrite everything because everything disappeared when I went to copy it to paste in the comments ;[ )
I don't disagree he should be forgiven. But don't forget he and Basil framed it as suicide, destroying what little sanity there could be left in the group. And then kept silencee during 4 years.
I don't really remember the name, but I used many songs from the artist Myuu and this was one of them. It's creepypasta music. He has a ton of great scary music, not just this one. Check him out! Edit: I was correct. It's "A Deep Voice" by Myuu.
I hear there was cut content revealing he created the White Space during that time. To filter his frustrations through there.
@@JabamiLain Yo I keep seeing you in drakengard vids and now here too
@@JabamiLain
Actually you reminded me of something with that last bit, the "I wished the game would let us have an actual dialogue with Mari." thing, it's my own take on the start of an Omari AU of sorts
Basically, it starts when they're atop the stairs (Mari and Sunny) Mari is angry at Sunny, yelling at him because of the broken violin, then she says "Answer me, come on!, ANSWER ME!" so, Sunny does, and he goes on a small rant, about his frustrations on Mari, the duet, the tiring days and nights practicing with her or a tutor, and that he hates the violin, Mari breaks down in a fit of anger, and she accidentally pushes Sunny down the stairs, freezing as she sees his brother tumbling down the stairs, before running down to check on him, crying, she shakes him, panicking.
"I'm sorry" was what her last thought were.

one thing i want to point out:
we know from the coffin scene during the entrance to black space that mari had an open casket, or clear casket funeral.
this means that mari's body was sent to a mortician; you can't just have a open casket funeral without prepping the body.
this raises the possibility that an autopsy or inspection was done during the process to confirm the cause of death for the death certificate or if the death is considered unexpected or suspicious.
if sunny's parents didn't know, or they lied about the cause of death to cover, any person doing an autopsy that's worth their salt would immediately notice a discrepancy. when you hang yourself, or when you asphyxiate to death, those are very, very noticeable and distinct injuries. your neck breaks in a specific fashion or your windpipe is crushed. the pathologist would absolutely notice that mari had died from a different type of neck injury or from internal bleeding resulting from a fall, and would've notified the parents or the police if the parents are insisting upon a specific type of death that doesn't match the injuries.
considering no one's in jail, i'd say they either knew the real events beforehand and told the pathologist/mortician that or figured that out through the autopsy. as far why sunny or basil never faces potential consequences, im not entirely sure on that front, but the only person who would likely press charges for the accidental death would be sunny's dad as no one else knows what really happened. he instead opts to disown sunny and leave while sunny's mom keeps up the facade that it was a suicide, which is why no legal consequences are dulled out.
the only thought of doubt i have is that death certificates are public record, so it's possible someone could simply request the death certificate and learn the truth that way, but who seriously goes and looks at a death certificate? i certainly haven't heard of that happening, like ever (personally).
in further support of sunny's parents knowing: there's literally a medkit placed at the bottom of the stairs in the game. there's no way in hell that isn't intentional.
in conclusion: sunny's parents absolutely know the truth, and didn't legally cover it (meaning the truth isn't really hidden, just obscured), only socially after they learned the truth. they figured out the truth either shortly after mari was found or after the body was sent to be prepped for a funeral.

It tells you that, "this person is not breathing."
Before the body was moved upstairs, it was said that "she looks like she's sleeping." This would lead us to believe that the eyes were closed then, and also when she was in bed.
Nevermind the question. I just looked it up lol
That makes sense! I can't believe I forgot all about that. Damn that would have made a nice addition to the "cause of death" section.

@@noux i agree! I knew she said that, but it really is Basils iconic phrase. Hero even says something similar when you find Basil in his room if you don't save him. I think it was "you go on ahead, we'll be okay."

AHHH!! THE PHOTO SECTIONS VOICE ACTING IS JUST PERFECT!!! AND I LOVE THE MUSIC AND EDITING!!!
Thank you ahaha. This was months in the making. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Production value on this video is sky-high
Me too, man. Me too.

😎
personally i always read the parents dialogue as just them experiencing grief in different ways.
the dad was in such heavy denial and pain that he couldn't take it anymore and just left the family behind.
I always imagined Basil's voice to be like this, great video.

Dude, hands? There's a fanfic named Hands, it gave me horrors. I recommend to you.
Here's my guess at what happened afterward:
(It may not be canon all the way though-)
Sunny tells the truth.
Kel: "HERO!"
Hero: "WHAT?!"
Kel: "Maybe calm down! He's crying."
Hero turns towards Sunny, who's hands are covering his face as he lets out a couple of soft sniffles.
I'm sure you probably know this by now."
Kel: "But still, Sunny, thanks for.. actually telling us the truth, I guess. It must've been hard." Kel laughs nervously.
Sunny: "A..Are we still friends..?"
Aubrey: "Heh. Of course we are, dumbass. After all, friends are always there for each other, aren't they?" She glances at Hero. "Now who's in for a group hug?"
Everybody subconsciously agreeing, goes in for a hug.
Basil, do you want to come with us?"
Basil nods his head.
Kel: "Okay, then. Lead the way, Sunny!"
All the friends walk out the door, with a heavy weight being lifted off Sunny and Basil's shoulders.
She was.

In mari side its understable as well her and the gang literally worked during vacation for months for sunny, for giving him a violin as a gift and as the in game picture we saw everyone was so happy to see sunny playing the violin since it was their gift they worked hard to get it so yea its understable that mari was pissed off then sunny broke it
In the end all of this could be avoided easily if during that day sunny would be honest with mari about why he started to play his violin along her, why did he had enough and broke the violin heck if he managed to talk about this to mari sooner during a day of practice of something like that he wouldn't even have to break the violin by anger, they just didn't understand eachother at the moment and didn't tried to that was the biggest mistake of they life
Its true if sunny tell why he playing violin, this moment can avoid
Underrated asf 🔥🔥🔥 looks amazing
Thank you 😎
Man... this takes me back to my first playthrough years ago, it feels so far away now...
This video editing is so fucking good
When you were discussing mari's cause of death, i noticed something. you said we dont know when maris eyes opened, which is partially true. however, if you look at the image descriptions again, youll realize when she was pushed down the stair and sunny went to her, he said she looked like shes sleeping, which means her eyes must have been closed. just a thought...
0:57 "I fcking love air conditioning" Remember kids! Every Kel meme is canon! Not.. Saying this WAS kel but.. Still!
This video is incredibly well made
I don't think that Sunny's friends forgave him.

I think that if any respite can be found in any of this it’s that we know that sunny and basil forgave themselves due to the secret ending but the question is wether or not their friends did personaly I think it would take a long ass time but I’m pretty sure they would after a very long time
I guess ı have to say that thos excellent the video is probably the Omori content so far (besides the animation).
want to share my opinion on this subject.
Tbh this is just all my thoughts and

I really enjoyed OMORI and the game's story and when the truth was showed to me it felt like a gut punch and the final duet was the same, the scene where Mari saved sunny from drowning and the two of them standing there just for the next frame to be of sunny alone broke my heart
The game did a really good job with the story telling, but something bothers me , we never get to know how Mari feels about all that, the closest thing to Closure on that topic is in the post-credits scene ( in the good ending ) where the "something" disappears behind sunny and basil, if you look closely you can see that the eye on the "something" behind sunny closes, knowing that "something" represents Mari, i can only think of two scenarios
1, That is a sighn that Mari found pace and now she can rest
2, sunny's guilt is gone but that does not inply that Mari is at pace
this game is a masterpice but, if they added a cutscene where Mari said goodbye to sunny like in headspace but in reality, that would have been the best
What is your opinion ?
It’d make sense that the parent actively covered up the death as one point you you bring up is that sunny did not have any agency in hanging mari, basil did and likely his parent helped covered it but I believe it make sense they covered it cause in terms of storytelling it’d make sense, in the final boss, Omori asks when will sunny stop letting people take care of him, “please be a good boy sunny”, it thematically make sense as they’re in a way enabling sunny to run from the truth which the game is against thematically, just my thought tho
I'm only 2 minutes in, but I just wanna say you're editing is really cool man
I think that MARI wasn't dead from being pushed onto the violin and she was killed by being hung.
Idk why but I always thought Mari's body was "lighter than he thought" was because Basil was helping Sunny carry Mari up and he just didn't realize it
Well the shoving photo does say photo of a murder implying that that was what killed her.
@Omoli-zz9fw Or it could be the guilt causing Sunny to believe that's the reason Mari died.
What I like most about the game is that it’s never told to us that sunny is forgiven or not
Because it’s not the important part, the important part is telling the truth
But if I’m being honest, they probably won’t forgive them and that’s OK
sick editing bro u r rlly good at it
I think everyones reaction would be the opposite of their reaction to maris death so Hero was sad he would be mad at figuring out the truth, aubrey was mad now she would be sad/betrayed, kel accpeted it now he would deny it.
Disco Elysium music. Nice
Instruments of Surrender FTW
What a nice video I liked it very much
Are those Keiji’s arms in the thumbnail 😳
good eyes
The real question is if basil is forgiven
I believe she died by being hanged because when sunny looked atvher face he said "she looks asleep" which implies her eyes were closed but as we see when shes hanging her eyes are very clearly open
It might've been rigor mortis that opened the eyes
so like the common belief is that sunny did it in a fit of rage and didnt mean it, but then why is he smiling while dragging her
The caption is him saying it's a dream. He's fake smiling
wait a minute... those hands in the thumbnail... 👁👁
i wonder whose hand it is
You know... those hands remind me of a certain policeman... i think...
@@Skirtkasedookielee you know too much

where are you ): your videos are sooo goood
The video was amazing and I loved your editing style. However, I have a question. What song did you play at the end? The one with the piano.

The video is really great and an editing masterpiece, but when in the game does ti say that sunny's parents' marriage was falling appart? I am not questioning, I just wanted to now.
dude the dialouge explains it
Like most things surrounding Black space it's very abstract, but yeah the dialogue given im the video.
Dark interpretation here:
While Basil might have "suggested" the thing, i kinda interpreted that Sunny's first idea while in dissociation back when she fell was actually to commit the thing himself.
I have a theory... a big theory:
First of all: Sunny's parents knew the truth, Sunny told them after the funeral (that's why they didn't call the police, because they saw that there was no concrete reason to call the police.) But when Sunny's mother says: "We'll protect you.", is from his friends knowing the truth, because they didn't do anything when Sunny told them the truth, they also didn't tell anyone in Basil's family about it. The phrase: "Be a good boy..." tells Sunny to never hide the truth or do anything like that again. Sunny's father left out of anger because he couldn't believe that his own son covered up his own sister's death, so he says, "Stay away, you're not my son."
Second: I have two speculations about how Mari died... when she fell down the stairs and when she was on the rope.

In my opinion, sunny should be forgiven, because it was an accident.
I don't disagree he should be forgiven. But don't forget he and Basil framed it as suicide, destroying what little sanity there could be left in the group. And then kept silencee during 4 years.
You've got a point thou.
This video is criminally underrated! Btw, does anyone know what song is playing from 12:56 - 15:30?
