    I played the GS mini and Dread Jr w/ mahogany top yesterday at Guitar Center. While I like both, I immediately chose the Dread Jr. for warmth and "looks". Playability of both felt the same, but I immediately heard (and preferred) that tonal depth of the Martin. It is a 24 scale neck which is identical in size to my PRS electric, so the feel is somewhat similar. Obviously, the acoustic requires more pressure, but fingering and movement felt easy and smooth. Yes it is Richlite which is more expensive than ebony in the current market.It is solid sapele all around with a mahogany top that is simply beautiful. Since I was needing a good traveler, I purchased the Martin and am very happy with it!

    Could hear differences very well. Thanks. Thought the Baby Taylor sounded tinny compared to the other two.

    Being a person who travels for long periods of time, I own a Taylor BT-2, and the sound and size are the best for me.

    GS mini is the best. Try singing ramble on when he plays the guitar. GS mini would offer the best support to your voice.

    I picked up a Martin Dreadnought Junior a couple of months ago, my daughter took over ownership of my Taylor GS Mini-e RW. I travel a bit with my work so I like to take a travel guitar with me.
    I agree with the comments that the Martin sounds better unplugged but the Taylor pickup is better. The Martin fishman system is pretty basic and sounds best when the sound is set as high as possible.
    I find the Martin easier to play from a finger style perspective as the nut width is 1-3/4 compared 1-11/16 for the taylor. My daughter has small fingers and she prefers the Taylor.
    For me the Martin sounds better and is easier to play with the size of my fingers - both are great travel sized guitars - at home I generally play a D-18 so I guess I am used to having a bit more space between the strings. My daughter's main guitar is a martin OM-28v. The Taylor is a back up guitar at gigs and its left lying around the house so I can be picked up and played at anytime - its a strong and light guitar.
    The Taylor travel bag is a lot better (better design, padding and style) than the Martin Bag and I'll be getting a hard shell for my junior as soon as they are released in Australia.

      @@benallmark9671 Hi Ben. I believe I paid $599 new with the fishman last year. The non-electric versions now are $499 which is the same as the GS mini. Depending on the woods (Koa, etc.) the prices on the GS minis go up from there.

    +bigmusicshop Hi, I'm a bit confused, you mentioned that the Martin D. Junior is 3/4th the size of the regular dreadnought, but I've read elsewhere that it's only 15/16th the size of the regular (which to me sounds negligible). Can you clarify?

    Baby Taylor is cool and fun to play (had borrowed one from a friend for a few months) but it sounds tinny as you can tell in the video here. The GS mini sounds great but a bit too bright for my liking. My pick goes to the Martin Dread Jr I think

    I wonder which guitar has the better intonation? You can hear it when you play a standard open C and E Chord. I only tried the Taylor GS Mini and it was not satisfying for me. I wonder how would it be with a Martin Jr.

    I'm not looking for a 'travel' guitar. I'm looking for an acoustic guitar that is smaller than a Dreadnought because, time and again, the size of those guitars turned me off from acoustics. I've been looking to give acoustics another go and am researching like crazy. Of these three I liked the Dread Jr. in this comparison.

    +bigmusicshop Hi, I am wondering if you do have the tablature of what you are playing in this video ? or if this is a known music ? reminds me of "Sympathy for the devil" of the Rolling Stones !
    I am currently hesitating between a Baby Taylor BT2, a Taylor GS Mini e Mahogany and a Martin Dreadnought Junior +/- Sapele.. I have a bright sound guitar from Art&Lutherie, so I might try the low sound that brings Martin.. sadly it's hard to find a shop with those guitars in France where I live..! And the ideal solution would be me trying them all with singing over it, to take a conclusion on my choice.

    I really like the taylor guitar, i wish they we're made by hand and not by a machine. To me a guitar is worth way more when it is been done by hand, makes it have character, by a machine it's just robotic designed with no human designs.

    • @nstv23
      @nstv23 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Everything has to sides. Precision and consistency and production deadlines for the demands is much easier achieved through modern ways. It depends what you are looking for. Both ways are great !

    • @wilhelmhagberg8854
      @wilhelmhagberg8854 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the early days of guitar production craftsmansship was indispensable. That's why 50's and 60's Fenders are much better than those from the 70's. From the 70's onward guitars were mass produced by machines with very little manual involvement. Problem is the machines weren't really ready for the task yet. Now things are much different. With advanced computer systems, laser measurements and robot technology the machines are as good, if not better, than humans. A 2020 American Strat is generally much better than one produced in 1990.
