My family and I recently came back from this park. We did some primitive camping on the beach for 5 nights. It was awesome. Very clean and the fishing was great. Not to mention the campfires we had at night. Here's a huge tip when setting up your tent. The first night we expierenced very high winds. Place your rainfly on no matter what to prevent some of the sand from coming into the tent. Secure the lines in the sand by wrapping them with some wood logs and bury them. Take a shovel !!!
If you just bought your tent, make sure you buy some 10" stake pegs. The stakes that are normally included are no good. I bought the Academy brand and they worked great. Be sure and take a rubber mallet because you may have to tap some of the stakes from time to time to prevent them coming out because the sand will shift. Good luck....
the waves looks rough here, but i took my kids there in the late 1980s. i brought my 26 foot camper and stayed about 5 days. the kids actually found starfish and beautiful shells and the water had an emerald color to it. i dont know why we never went back, anyway they are all grown now. maybe we might plan a return if they can all take vacation time off at the same time. i remember the water was almost flat except for the beautiful white cap waves crashing on the shore. to find anything the same as mustang island means traveling to alabama or florida. and i did that, it was way to far for me. i will stay at a Texas beach from now on.

Are the beaches here really sandy, or are they mostly grains?
The consistency of the sand has very fine grains, often referred to as sugar sand.
