    I 3D printed an adapter for the katadyn so it fits on a regular water bottle. If you need one yell.

    Love Katadyn. I've had my pocket filter for 25yrs. This BeFree size is terrific.

    Ahh I love this product. Such a good addition to a go-bag or emergency bag.

    I have always wondered,,, after you fill the bag and start filter pointing down most of the time,,, what about the water that is dripping down the outer side of the bag? Or is that not enough of dirty water to warm you much? I would think it doesn't take much dirty water to have a chance of you getting ill.
    Also, I wonder if there are more price friendly bag you can screw on that filter to?

    Great review btw, including the issues you've ran into with poking holes and the solutions you found. As well as all the specifications. You have my favorite water filtration videos, because of your background scenery, information, soothing voice and speaking style. Bonus points for the disclaimer at the end, but I definitely trust your honesty in these reviews. I'm an atheist so I won't praise God, but I wish you all the best. Take care.

    The only thing that could be better would be if the bottom could be opened. That would make it faster to fill and easier to clean.

    It looks like when you pour it into the tin cup the water on the outside, unfilterred, easily drips into the cup while you pour. How can you avoid contamination?

  • @titanpreparedness
    @titanpreparedness 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Good review. I think it would be nice for weekend trips but far over priced for what it is and the amout of water it filters. 1000liters is a joke

  • @TimmyBobinson
    @TimmyBobinson 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How can you measure / record how many liters you have used with these devices? Who is going to carry a pocket book and take notes on a hike?

  • @bobinmontana777
    @bobinmontana777 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Seems like a strong possibility for contamination either from water from outside of the bag, or hands.

  • @SunnyWu
    @SunnyWu 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You should probably wipe off the bag before you gravity filter so the contaminated water on the sides doesn't drip into the filtered water.
    Also from the reviews I've seen on these, problem is very low surface area... It clogs too often. The Sawyer Squeeze is bigger, but you get more surface area for filtering and you don't need to clean so often.

    you don't have to paddle it on the water, just dip it down low and it'll fill-up.

    • @ReviewOutdoorGear
      @ReviewOutdoorGear  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That only works with hard containers like bottles.

  • @spider5001

    When do you know that you need to replace the filter? How can you tell? Does the water stop flowing?

  • @phocia

    Do you know if they make caps just for storage as a bottle instead of a filter and a bottle for additional storage?

  • @reyscottm9
    @reyscottm9 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I like the bag design, but I don't like the proprietary threading. The filter can't be used with any other sort of water bottle. And no other filter will work inside the katadyn bottle. Also, 1,000 liters is pretty weak. The lowest model Sawyer product is rated for a hundred thousand GALLONS. Plus it's compatible with every water bottle on the market, And significantly cheaper. I think katadyn would win hands down if they could step up to the price point and versatility of the Sawyer.

    Don't believe these bottle filters are as good as they seem. Ive tried a few of the befree bottles and they leaked from the bottle top. Also water tased grainy so not sure if the filter was defective or not.

    Can anyone tell me if the cap on the filter is standard size that could be replaced with smart water bottle sports caps? I have heard that is the flimsy part of the product and was wondering if it could easily be replaced with other bottle caps? THX

      I'm sure you can lookup more specific info about this but my understanding is that this type of filter does not include filtering viruses. My understanding is that viruses are not a risk from water in the United States.

    Yessss, walk into a creek and bend down in the creek and then drip dirty water all over your clean cup and in your mouth and all over your hands, much better than dropping a hose in the water and pumping straight into a nalgene bottle.
