Arabs take their human bonds very seriously.. The Bedouin and their horses eat the same foods, sleep in the same tent, they rarely leave their owners side. This poor sweet boy has had to work for 18 years without meeting his person. He’s probably tired of being let down or getting left behind. I am so happy you got him and will help him find his person. When I've had a horse that was thin, and not muscled up, I start in walk, not walk/trot. I use a schedule that I found listed for bringing hunters back into work after a summer off (and they weren't having to regain weight...just firm up their muscle. You might consider a VERY SLOW increase in work at the walk. A couple I've ever just gotten on for 5 minutes the first 3 days, then 10 minutes the rest of that week (5-6 days ridden/week.) Then 15, 20, 25, 30. Increase from half hour's walking to 1 hour by 15 minutes/week. Yes, this means over 6 weeks at a walk, but it's letting both the muscles and the joints harden up, and with a horse that needs more actual muscle 2 months at a walk is not too much walking. There are dozens of gymnastics you can do at a walk with arrangements of poles, jump blocks, all sorts of things. Then start with 1-2 minutes of sustained trotting ...work up slowly to 10 minutes of steady trotting before moving to canter/lope and by then the work will be 1.5 hours and the horse's legs should be good and hard. Top line needs "tracking up" with the hind legs--bit swinging steps. Backing up, for a horse out of condition and possibly with some hock issues, is s strain and gettng all the hing leg joints and the SI joint of his back supple and easy. You certainly aren't a heavy rider, and that may not be a heavy saddle (have you weighed it?) , but this is a horse that to me looks like he needs a slower schedule. Arabs usually firm up quickly if they've got the muscle but he was in less than ideal condition. If he's getting fussy at 15 minutes...and to me he looked uncomfortable...give him 10 minutes a day and something interesting to think about. Poles, boxes, upside down buckets...things for him to move around and between, to see a reason for why you're asking for this or that turn. Let him have some straight lines (longer than in the round pen), not just turn after turn after turn...that will help him use his back better and loosen any stiffness in the SI joint.
I have a cat named George (as in hug him and squeeze him and love him and call him George). This fine fellow thinks he has been sadly assigned the wrong duties. He thoroughly believes that he was born to be a HOUSE CAT. Making matters worse my wife has trained him by allowing him to come inside when she opens the door to feed him and his compadres. He’s fast too and if you aren’t paying attention when you open the door he’s in like a flash. My wife has taught this cat that he can come in and flop over on his back and she will give him a belly rub (which he finds to be the greatest thing ever). Then she picks him up and hugs him and squeezes him and calls him George and puts him out with the others to eat. Well George is pretty smart for a cat so now every time the door opens he’s like a little furry lightning bolt zooming into the house. The problem is that I stay here by myself in the daytime and I can’t bend over to grab the little rascal and he’s figured that out. He flops down on the floor and just lays there. I’ve tried pushing him with my foot but he easily evades me so it can take a while until he’s finally repatriated to his proper place. Our outside cats have insulated condos made from Styrofoam coolers that were used to ship meat. Well yesterday I was in a hurry because I had a doctor’s appointment and I wasn’t paying attention and when I opened the door he was in like a flash. I tried the usual methods to remove this little loafer. But his house cat wannabe was strong and he dodged and twisted like the little furry maniac that he is. Things were getting just a bit tight because I had to leave or be late. (I’m very anal retentive about being on time.) Well I was getting desperate when I saw a broom sitting in the corner. Only yesterday I had seen a video of three women doing curling, but instead of that big hockey puck thing someone had edited a cat in place of the hockey puck thing. Inspiration struck so I opened the door and got the broom and curled old George right out the door. He gave me a really dirty look and flounced off in a huff went over to his condo and parked his little furry butt while glaring at me and I’m sure he was muttering obscenities under his breath. He had taken his best shot and been defeated by an old geezer with a broom. I think I hurt his pride.
My first horse was an Arab and we were besties for many yrs. First, I later learned Arabs 'think' differently and watching Zigs triggered a memory. If my mare thought we were exiting through a gate (and we didn't) she'd switch her tail just like Ziggy❤ They are SMART and prefer one person. You do such a wonderful job. We love your channel ❤
Ziggy is a sweetheart ❤ He seems to be trying to please just not knowing what you want exactly. But he is a good boy, and smart. I think he will do well with your training! And MIss Scarlet! She is so beautiful ❤ I am so glad you bought her! Very nice to see her grow into the horse she's going to be!!! Nice video. Good tips about the pad and saddle! Educational Thanks for sharing
Wow! Ziggy looks good - Scarlett too - So much explanation & information shows us how to understand all the processes and things you know, and anyone trying to get on a horse should understand.
Thank you so much for your information, too many claim to be "sanctuary " but do not understand horse behavior or animal behavior which can create much bigger issues. Great information for these people people 👏
@@Brenda-lg4dl No need to apologize at all - just wanted you to know in case you wanted to repost where it would be read more widely, it's a good thought.
I started riding age 8 . After that my parents got divorced and I just had 6 monthhs of lessons and fell in love with horses. There were farms around with horses and ponies so ....I got to ride troublemakers . And bareback most of the time . It helped me to get a hell of a seat , bareback at buckers . Most were just mistreated or misunderstood . I have never met a bad horse in my life..
I just love this little old man! I adopted a 19 year old Icelandic gelding 10 years ago that was much the same in training….we’ve had an amazing life together. Thank you for showing this video and explaining what you’re looking for. I appreciate that you show it “all” and not just the “good” parts.
For me riding without a helmet feels like being naked even if I'm just sitting on the horse while he grazes not even moving I'll have my helmet on and this saved my life, no exaggeration, 3 times. Teaching kids to always wear it from the very start makes it so that most of them don't even notice it anymore.
I may be in the minority 😶🌫️ here, but I'm glad to see that Ziggy's spirit hasn't been beaten down over time. He has an innate sense of self. 🦚 I know that you will get him out of these undesirable habits and I'm so glad that you've got the skills ✨ 🧰to help him get over the finish line 🏁. Thank you for being so attuned to a horse's needs.
I Hope that doesn't add too much of a burden, but I know you can handle anything. I've never seen anyone as calm and low key around horses as you are no matter what they're up to.
One may wonder, if Skeletor got tied to a trailer with the tackroom door open and no supervision, how much of the tackroom contents would have made it outside the trailer somehow.

I am new to your TH-cam videos. I've been going back and watching all of your videos. I just watched the video that you did for Frisco Bill's birthday. It was so relaxing, listening to him eating his treats. I love that sound. I love your videos and watch the new one as soon as you upload them. If I were rich, I would buy you a ranch. I pray for you and thank God that there are people like you who take such good care of your horses. They are a wonderful gift from God.
Thank you for another great video. Ziggy is handsome and Scarlet is beautiful. The mountains are awesome. You are so patient with your horses. Tiny is so adorable.
Thank you for teaching a horse how to simply stand still. It is so basic yet oh so difficult these days to get this message across young riders . Please keep doing what you do with Ziggy , he is so smart and he will make you a better cowgirl ❤
General comment-as someone who LOVES horses and knows absolutely NOTHING professionally, watching ur channel is SUCH a wonderful learning experience-besides being a pure JOY!❤ Ziggy is just lovely. Thank you for explaining everything you do as ur doing it. I'm actually getting a little familiar with some of the terms after just a month of watching ur videos! I just love seeing you post a new video! ❤ REALLY brightens my day! Scritches for Tiny & other kitty too. Pats for Huckleberry! I miss seeing him!❤🐾🐴🐕🐈🤗
What a great day, CC. I think Ziggy was disappointed that you were [pretending to be another] novice rider....until you started to ask him to think. I bet he always wanted to be smart and not just a pretty face.😌 Time to be a one-person horsie.
Omg the look on his face when you were flailing around! It looked to me like he leaned into it a bit and was thinking "oh, great, she's actually an idiot." He's such a sweet guy.
I think Ziggy was testing you to see if you would smack him for moving to much. Cuz you know those "cowboys" at the dude ranch smacked him. Riding in AZ for 27 years more than once I had to ask them not to smack the horse I was about to mount. Some places I never went back too because of how they treated the horses and I'd let the owner know why. You were very patient and waited for him to settle. He looks good for being on vacation for so long. 🙂
He’s off to a fantastic start 💞 So excited to watching Ziggy’s training journey with you. Looking forward to watching him hit the trail ! Team Ziggy ! 🐴
I would love to watch the chiropractor working on him and see what they find. Very interesting to watch and learn. Thank you for sharing your channel with us. I really look forward to your new content. Entertaining and educational.
So happy to see Zig's progress - nice going!! Isn't Scarlett looking absolutely gorgeous!!! Love seeing how they are coming along! Thanks so much for sharing and keeping us in the loop!!! ❤❤❤
Ziggy and Scarlett are both so cute and about the same size right now, though they are many years apart. I loved hearing the reason you chose certain tack for Ziggy and what you'll do with his bridle/bit combo in the future. That is definitely a fancy snaffle that you showed us. I learn so much from listening to you. For example, I did not realize that you could train a horse to poop in one area; I just thought that some horses were tidier than others. While Ziggy may never learn the poop-in-one-place skill, it is such a good idea to try and teach this skill by leaving some of their poop in one area, to give them the idea. I love all these little tidbits. Thank you, CC. Your ride on Ziggy was very interesting too.
I just had an awesome idea. For those who can be trained to poop in one spot CC could leave part of the turd train in their run and they could back up and poop in it. That would save a lot of time scooping the poop. Probably an unrealistic idea but I thought it sounded good
Love Scarlet’s little feathers! Ziggy is so cool, seems he is ready to WORK as he likely did in an earlier life, but it will be nice to see him muscled up! As i sit here in urban LA so nice to live vicariously a little through your videos!
You sure are the clever cowgirl. ❤🎉And you sure know your work with horses. 😮😊.And such a lovely horse. ❤🎉😊😊I do hope he gets an owner who cares for him the way you do.❤😊
I think maybe you could have a Chiropractor take a look at him. I had two rescue horses and I can tell you it really helps loosen him up find the spot that needs adjustment
I think with a tune up and a few new moves, That little guy might even be an excellent candidate for a disabled older lighter cowgirl, who cant do the riding they used to do ♥♥♥
Am always impressed with your courage to work with horses that are completely unknown as well as with your absolute commitment to them. On Ziggy (I think that's his name), he has a difficult backline for saddle fitting which showed up in the rear bouncing of your saddle when working him in the round pen. And with his short back, it's difficult to place the saddle so it will not hit his loins, yet also that the front of the bars do not sit on his shoulders. His back looks just like a horse I had, where I finally had to order a saddle with "Arab bars" which surprisingly is not for a flat back, but one that has a definite dip behind the shoulder. While your saddle is not perfect, with the limited time you were on him, it didn't really matter. Just keep in mind, longer periods might bring out enough discomfort that he will protest. After so many horses under my belt, they have taught me when they protest, there is a reason. Friendly advice only. I thoroughly enjoy your videos.
I have a grey 18 year old Arabian mare. I had to put her in a bit less bridle . Now that you talked about Ziggy's mouth, it makes more sense to me about my mare. Love to see you riding. Can't wait until you take us trail riding
Thank you so much for all of the information. I am 75 and I feel like I was lacking SO much knowledge when I got my horse 51 yrs ago. Prices for tack and other things were much better back in 1973. Again thanks for your channel. Love it.
Your videos remind me of summers on family farms. We lived in northern Manitoba, Canada and my parents families were farmers in Saskatchewon. I'm far too old and broken to get on a horse anymore so I'm enjoying watching you with your diverse herd.
"The word is out there about you girl" I was watching You Tube last night (Curious Horse) and everyone thinks you're the best horseman. I knew it all along. Right on!! Love your videos💖💖💖🐴🐴🐴
You and Ziggy look so good together, with the beautiful mountains in the background, and the lovely, puffy, white clouds in the several shades of blue sky! I've heard that Montana is God's country, and I truly believe it today!
I can't remember if I already commented or not, but what the heck! I'm learning so much from you! It's fun to watch your vids for entertainment, but also I think I'm actually learning better horsemanship as well. Thanks and keep up the good work!
I love your channel and I love Ziggy and how he is coming along in his training….i would love to own a horse like him, he has a lot of potential but needs someone who will take the time to understand him and love him for himself. All animals need and deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. He reminds me of another Arabian I rode once, a mare and looks a lot like her in color. I hope Ziggy will find someone special that will love him for himself and never expect more out him than he can handle. I’ve seen too many horses ridden by too many riders that ended up being ruined because of too many riders and not enough horse sense among people riding them. Basically, they were treated as machines instead of as being a living entity. It is so sad to see good horses ruined by careless, uncaring people who have NO regards to the animals wellbeing….one horse I rode, and wished I could have owned him was Tony, a half Arab/Morgan cross, well trained and a dream to ride (we bonded and I will always miss him). I loved this horse, but seen him slowly being destroyed by uncaring and cruel people. He had a rocking chair type lope which was the best part of his abilities, the other was a soft mouth and he responded to my lead with his heart, and in actuality, taught me to become a better rider because of his training alone. I could sense his movements and he could sense mine and with what I was asking of him. The last time I rode Tony was during the summer and I noticed a big change in Tony’s behavior and attitude, he was lifeless and didn’t respond as well as before with me. Due to many riders, his training was gone, people were cruel to him, they would beat him with sticks and whips, and in his mouth was a harsh curb bit, from the snaffle he once used, also he developed a lot of lameness due to being ridden hard over pavement and rocky roads…many times he came back all sweaty and breathing hard, and tired. I NEVER did any of that to him, he always would listened to me. I was able to get him back into his rocking chair lope, but it didn’t last long, he gave up. Tony was very depressed and lifeless in spirit. The following spring I came back to ride him and the owner told me that Tony died in the mountains, because he didn’t want to go back with the rest of the herd to the barn…it was around -30 below zero or more. It broke my heart. Then the owner told me he would have sold him to me for $500. That hurt even more. If I would have had a good place to have kept him, I would have bought Tony, but I lived in the city limits. All Tony wanted was for someone who would love him for himself. I would have done that with him. He was one of the best horses I have ever ridden. I seen how love can transform a horse into a friend and a good riding companion. Plus, I’ve also seen how much cruelty can destroy a good animal and take away his life. I also live in Montana……RIP TONY, may you find eternal peace in God’s loving arms and heaven’s pastures…..👍❤️🙏🏼

But I guess they are her horses to choose if she wants to ride or not. I think she just likes hanging out with them more than anything. But still interesting blogs !!❤️💯🐴
It continues to amazes me even after watching a number of your videos, how much one needs to know to properly care for a horse. You have an In depth knowledge of the whys and wherefores of horse behaviour ,why they act as they do at times ,and what they require to be comfortable and to act well . In addition of course your knowledge of equine equipment needs according to each individual horse is very extensive. Very edifying ,I had no idea.❤

This is what people that consider them a sanctuary these animals still need work even if isn't riding, it's good for their overall health
I bet Ziggy will appreciate not having to babysit his rider on the trails. Interesting to see if he has 3rd gear, once the old guy is in better shape.
Here’s some funds towards Ziggy’s chiro appointment. Bless him.
Thank you!
Ziggy will make someone a great horse partner when you get him tuned up. Scarlett is looking great!🐎🥕❤
I think you’re wonderful♥️🙋♀️‼️☮️🙏🏻Bless you for being patient and horse savvy… paying attention to stuff is so important♥️🐴💕
My first horse was an Arab and we were besties for many yrs.
First, I later learned Arabs 'think' differently and watching Zigs triggered a memory.
If my mare thought we were exiting through a gate (and we didn't) she'd switch her tail just like Ziggy❤
They are SMART and prefer one person. You do such a wonderful job.
We love your channel
❤
Ha yes I bet you're right. He got annoyed every time he had to go past the gate and not through it.
Ziggy is a sweetheart ❤
He seems to be trying to please just not knowing what you want exactly. But he is a good boy, and smart. I think he will do well with your training!
And MIss Scarlet! She is so beautiful ❤ I am so glad you bought her! Very nice to see her grow into the horse she's going to be!!! Nice video.
Good tips about the pad and saddle! Educational
Thanks for sharing
Wow! Ziggy looks good - Scarlett too -
So much explanation & information shows us how to understand all the processes and things you know,
and anyone trying to get on a horse should understand.
Thank you so much for your information, too many claim to be "sanctuary " but do not understand horse behavior or animal behavior which can create much bigger issues. Great information for these people people 👏
@@Brenda-lg4dl Think you may mean to post your good comment in the general section and not as a reply only to me - fyi.
@@Knucklehead123 I apologize for this
@@Brenda-lg4dl No need to apologize at all - just wanted you to know in case you wanted to repost where it would be read more widely, it's a good thought.
I'm glad Nigel has a friend 😊
Scarlett and Ziggy look beautiful!!
🤩🥰🙏
Maybe he doesn't need a bit. More people are not using a bit at all. Hopefully he doesn't need one at all.❤
Letting the horse relax and get accustomed to you is wonderful to watch ❤❤❤
I love watching Ziggy - he is darling, and beautiful to boot.
For me riding without a helmet feels like being naked even if I'm just sitting on the horse while he grazes not even moving I'll have my helmet on and this saved my life, no exaggeration, 3 times.
Teaching kids to always wear it from the very start makes it so that most of them don't even notice it anymore.
When I was a kid, I loved wearing the one English-style helmet at the camp I went to. I felt so fancy! Like an equestrian top hat.🎩
Ziggy is so sweet! God Bless you Sweetheart for getting him. What a good boy! You certainly know your 4 legged babies!
Frisco Bill and Nigel together...heartwarming ❤
I may be in the minority 😶🌫️ here, but I'm glad to see that Ziggy's spirit hasn't been beaten down over time. He has an innate sense of self. 🦚 I know that you will get him out of these undesirable habits and I'm so glad that you've got the skills ✨ 🧰to help him get over the finish line 🏁. Thank you for being so attuned to a horse's needs.
He is getting more sassy as the days go on! He is a real character!
Toy box!!
Please don't skip ads! This is what pays CC. Try to watch all the first 1 of 2 ads so you get both ads. I watch all of ad 1 of 2 and at least 30 seconds of ad 2 of 2. I've read various remarks over the years that we must watch at least 30 seconds for the ad to count as watched. I also Googled this and found 2 articles confirming 30 seconds count as ad watched. I often just let them play and go check my email, leaving the TH-cam window open.

It’s such a treat to watch an expert at work!
I miss seeing him!❤🐾🐴🐕🐈🤗
Gettin' Zìggy Witcha
Good one!
What a great day, CC. I think Ziggy was disappointed that you were [pretending to be another] novice rider....until you started to ask him to think. I bet he always wanted to be smart and not just a pretty face.😌 Time to be a one-person horsie.
Ziggy's freckles are really coming in! Seems like he moves really nice for an old boy!
Ziggy has such kind eyes 🥰
I love watching you working, Ziggy . I love Ziggy ❤️
Love seeing Ziggy under saddle and I forget that primrose is a wild horse, she has come a long way.
I get the horses mixed up too.Scarlet is the wild horse. Primrose is a buckskin I think and is Frisco Bills current girlfriend
He’s off to a fantastic start 💞
So excited to watching Ziggy’s training journey with you.
Looking forward to watching him hit the trail !
Team Ziggy ! 🐴
I do enjoy watching Jiggy. Absolutely love him ❤
Hi from England. Love watching you working with the horses and the scenery is beautiful.
Seconded! 🇬🇧
I am just in awe at the beautiful mountain range. Wow!
Omg, CC I laughed out loud when you acted like a rookie getting onto Ziggy….nailed it. Your talent is a 10, girl. 🤍😎
I am sure that is what I used to look like an my very infrequent horse rides lol
good boy on The Clever Cowgirl channel and so handsome in his blanket bridle and saddle.
I love watching people love their horses.
I love Tiny photobombing at the beginning…always in on the action x
These videos really are a calming part of the day. Thank you CC, always look forward to them and the horses and scenery beautiful as ever.😊
Steering and brakes check complete. 😂❤
Go Ziggy!
Probably an unrealistic idea but I thought it sounded good
@@kiminalaska9363 It might just be worth a try to see if it does work! 🙂
Love Scarlet’s little feathers! Ziggy is so cool, seems he is ready to WORK as he likely did in an earlier life, but it will be nice to see him muscled up! As i sit here in urban LA so nice to live vicariously a little through your videos!
Thank you for another entertaining video! Love seeing Ziggy and Scarlet. 🐴🐴❤️
You sure are the clever cowgirl. ❤🎉And you sure know your work with horses. 😮😊.And such a lovely horse. ❤🎉😊😊I do hope he gets an owner who cares for him the way you do.❤😊
love this! I can relate to a stiff neck if that’s Ziggy’s problem. 😊 Scarlet has grown! Wow! Such a pretty sorrel ❤
I think maybe you could have a Chiropractor take a look at him. I had two rescue horses and I can tell you it really helps loosen him up find the spot that needs adjustment
Same here😊
Scarlet looks much calmer than she used to!
Ziggy is such a good boy ❤❤
I think with a tune up and a few new moves, That little guy might even be an excellent candidate for a disabled older lighter cowgirl, who cant do the riding they used to do ♥♥♥
Wow, your big saddle collection paid off 😅 Ziggy’s super cute, I really wish him a good family to spoil him for the rest of his life
Am always impressed with your courage to work with horses that are completely unknown as well as with your absolute commitment to them.
Educational as well as just plain interesting to watch the horses behaviors. Thanks for the video.
Love it.
Love the Tiny 'photobomb' while you were working with Ziggy! So cute! :)
Your videos remind me of summers on family farms. We lived in northern Manitoba, Canada and my parents families were farmers in Saskatchewon. I'm far too old and broken to get on a horse anymore so I'm enjoying watching you with your diverse herd.
Ziggy is pretty sweet ❤️ Great video - Thank you!
"The word is out there about you girl" I was watching You Tube last night (Curious Horse) and everyone thinks you're the best horseman. I knew it all along. Right on!! Love your videos💖💖💖🐴🐴🐴
Thank you for all these details on Ziggy's topline, muscles, conformation and assessing his training. ❤🇨🇦
He looks so sprightly now!❤
Nigel is such a beautiful old man. All your horses are fabulous.
All I have to add is ❤❤❤❤❤❤
So excited to see you hop on Ziggy! Thanks for sharing the saddle fitting and info about bits. Zig sure seems like a sweet boy!
Thank you for your videos, the mountain views and your vocal delivery are truly pleasant and relaxing.
Very impressed you answer so many questions in the comments. Thank you - I enjoy your time and knowledge.
He's a beautiful horse!
Ziggy is beautiful!
I learn so much every time i come here. What lucky horses!
I love Nigel! He is so cute !🎉❤
I love the patience you have with these beautiful horses.
Hurray for helmets! 😊 Mounting blocks are very helpful for the horses back health.
Ziggy is a nice, nice horse!
New to your channel. Glad I found it! Really enjoy your videos and explanations. Hope your channel continues to grow and helps you to pursue your work👏🤷🏼♀️👏
You’ll like this channel. She’s very knowledgeable and treats her horses better than I’ve ever seen. She doesn’t ride that much at all with all the horses she has.
