I remembered Susan Boyers parents especially her Daddy rescued her and took her back to the drug rehabilitation center. I remembered when one of the staff kept saying, WE WANT YOUR FEELINGS! TALK IS CHEAP! I remembered when she’s really finally started talking about things were going on when she’s upset/ scared especially when she’s said she doesn’t want her old life back. I remembered at first when one of the staff said,YOU WANT YOUR DRUGS! YOU LIVE EVERY DAY,GET HIGH! You take one step at a time because each step is a scary step. Congrats 🍾🎉 when Susan Boyers finally got to go home 🏠, especially when she’s said, I’M COMING HOME! Especially when she’s hugs her parents, everyone cheers 🥂 for her, especially her friends there. I think that’s Susan Boyers want to be popular especially when her parents confronted her when they her drugs hidden behind her stereo speakers 🔊, hangout with her druggy friends especially her boyfriend when Kelly came home from school . Susan Boyers and her boyfriend smoking 🚬 reefer/ marijuana. I remembered when Susan Boyers beats her sister’s Kelly up especially when she’s rat 🐀 on her gave her a black eye 👁. I’m sure that’s the hardest thing was when Susan Boyers was really furious when they left her at the drug rehabilitation center. I remembered when she’s tried to runaway several of the girls/ staff had to block the door 🚪 especially when they restrained her various rules. Jennydebrier

I love it 🥰 especially Stockard Channing’s was Susan Boyers, Mom. I love it 🥰 especially she’s really loves her even when her parents talk about her going away to boarding school 🏫. She’s was really going to a druggy rehabilitation instead. I’m sure that it’s was the hardest thing especially they left her there. I remembered when she’s was piss when her sister’s Kelly told her parents her drugs were hidden behind her stereo speakers 🔊. I remembered when her parents especially her Daddy grounded her. I remembered when Kelly came home from school 🏫, Susan Boyers and her boyfriend were smoking 🚬 marijuana or whatever. She calls her a narc especially when she’s beat Kelly up. She had a black eye 👁. I remembered when she said please get up, Kelly! I’m sorry! It’s not your fault!

Then YOU gave up on her, but somehow it wasn't giving up, it was letting her figure it out on her own and somehow you are the hero who saved your daughter.. is that about right??
I think I know why your daughter became a druggie.

Hash is just pot with all of the leaves removed so it's just the part that gets you high. Hash oil is just hash in a liquid form. THC is the active ingredient in pot. So yes they are all the same thing. They are all non addictive and safer than alcohol with a yearly death rate of zero.

Damn these kids would make a rock star blush with that baggage.....PCP, LSD, coke, heroin, ....really?
Something else I noticed, is that all these kids appeared to come from squeaky clean, stable, two parent homes. I know they were trying to drive that point home by showing that not all drug addicts come from the ghetto...but it more or less resembled a privileged brats drug rehab.

    • @Polkadottybatty

+Stephanie Baker Haha, I remember they showed this movie to us in public school in Los Angeles back in 11th grade health class (1990, btw). And it fit that bill perfectly; it was overdone, poorly acted, and highly exaggerated every single factor involved, especially the kids & their wanton use of drugs. Lots of teenagers experiment and all of them come from different homes, races & cultures, but seriously, the kids in this film were so overblown in their drug use roles that they didn't even realize that they were listing the same drugs over & over again in their rehab speeches (e.g. pot, THC, acid, LSD). This was only to drive home the point that "Drugs are bad, m'kay?" And hiding the pills in her stereo speakers? COME ON!!! I can remember the whole health class snickering during this film constantly, it was so bad! :) So, short answer...I agree!

I've been a heroin addict since high school and I'm 24 now. I come from an amazing family (my parents are still together, my brothers a college lacrosse player with straight A's, they have money). It's weird it's an epidemic in my area. I recently got out of jail and I was in there with so many girls I knew from high school and middle school who also come from wealthy family's.. My boyfriend is an addict also and he grew up with crack head parents in a trailer. Addiction doesn't discriminate

Hi, I completely agree. I'm an English 39 yr old woman and ive had a drug habit for years and years and years, trying to detox of heroin once again. I come from a loving family and I never wanted for anything growing u. I live in one of the most expensive areas outside London. I have a medical degree , I had a fantastic childhood and my brother was a professional football player. its an epidemic where i'm from too. Really strange. everyone is fucked up here.
      DRUGS/ADDICTION DEFINITELY DO NOT DISCRIMINATE.
I hope you manage to kick the shit. Its a hard life isnt it when you're addiction takes over everything. You become your addiction.
I;m 40 years old in 7 months time and that makes me middle aged and i'm still fucked. try to sort it out before you get as old as me. You are young enough to turn your life around and start afresh and still have your best years - your 30's ahead of you.
I wish you all the luck in the world . I really do. Good luck and god bless. xx

Hate to tell you this but back in 1986 single parents were not the norm..if anything it shows you how the world in this regard has gone downhill and fast..

I dreaded movies like this. They were often after school specials back in the 80s, and when we walked thru the door from school, our mom was standing there with a disgusted look on her face with remote control in hand, and she'd say in an irate tone, "you love to watch TV so much? Then sit your butt down & watch this special on tv." 😂 Those after school specials made our parents upset with US as tho we were the rebellious kids on the TV screen. 😂 ahhhhh...., good times

I remembered when one of the staff asked how long she’s been doing drugs, she said 3 years and one of the staff, what’s that make you, a druggie! I felt sorry for her especially since the other girls and staff were ganging up on her, sometimes I felt like it’s wasn’t ever good enough, no matter hard, she’s tried. I’m glad that her sister, Kelly still love ❤️ her. I’m glad that her sister Kelly still love her sister, Susan Boyers. I’m glad that her Mom realizes that and her Daddy, needs to stop running 🏃 away. Growing up in Southern California in the 80s, in all honesty, these movies were kind of a joke. No one in my circles really took them seriously because no one was using heroin and pcp in Jr high and high school, and meth was considered something still a little out there. people were trying it but not like it is today. There were also programs like Free Way for kids that were super popular. Southern California was a trippy place to grow up. That's for sure.

Loosen the constraints a little. I think that lying little madams constraints haven’t been tight enough. Her mother is in complete denial. After raising 4 children I never believe a thing they said. If I suspected anything was going on. I was on the hunt for the truth even if it wasn’t what I wanted to find out. Better feeling let down then losing a child to drugs or anything else that lurk in the shadows that prays on teenagers. I know this because I lost a sister to drugs and I’m not talking about weed that’s nothing compared to what’s out there. In fact it should be legalised so young people don’t come into contact with the scum that reels them in to get pot and end up on the hard stuff.

Her and her boyfriend broke into houses/ stores to pay 💰 for her abortion. I remembered during lunch 🥙 she’s got into a fight with one of the other girls. NAW not identical this program wasn't abusive like Synanon was to the point of torturing the kid's mentally and physically.. A couple of teen's died because of Synanon type treatment camp's. The only similarities are they encouraged the other addict's to call other's out on their BS their parent's were buying for too long .. Nothing that was done here "verbally" in this movie would cause someone's death.. Actress Mila ? from That 70s Show was in a movie about a Rehab Camp similar to Synanon.. The kid's were put into a circle and other teen's yelled at them bullied them it was brutal .. This rehab was tame in comparison Addict's of every age are great con artist's they spout off their usual BS and in this type of program they're called out on it by their peer's whether teen's or adult's that's not abusive ..

1:22:16 is how I imagine my Mom was in a “Parent Rap”. I was in the facility that this movie was based on. Straight Inc. Atlanta
Held against my will for over 600 days, and it was NOT therapy, it was mental cruelty.

Thank you for speaking up in the midst of all these weird cultists that worship this pseudoscientific garbage. This movie was a propaganda/ marketing piece for straight inc. that they didn’t even have to pay to make.
I was in a facility that borrowed their pseudoscience in equal measures from Synanon and the seed…
They showed us this movie until we all wanted to puke.
Forcing confessions out of teenage girls is not therapeutic.
Most of those kids in those programs didn’t do half of what they admitted in those groups.

I'm so sorry you were put through that by the people who were supposed to care for you. Abusing kids and calling it "help" is truly evil.

Drugs were not really around when I went to school. Pot would have been the worse but I only witnessed that once and there was no pressure put on anyone.
    It’s scary what’s around now.

Segal gives a strong anti-drugs performance in "Born to win" opp. De Niro ('71); his stealing from his g/f etc.
Aronovsky's "Requiem for a dream" THE film that would put you off drugs.
"Panic in Needle Park" too, no glamour in drug usage, "Trainspotting" where the baby walking on the ceiling pretty horrible too.
