Just tremendous! What a great way to get a feeling for the "ups and downs" of the elevation changes during the hike. It makes for easier trip planning. Thanks very much for posting this.
What surprises is how level a good portion of the hike actually is. It isn't until you start to approach Mount Whitney that the trail starts a steep ascent. And with Mount Whitney, it is not only the arduous ascent, but the thin atmostphere as well that the hiker must contend with.
Wow! That was absolutely amazing!!! Thank you for posting this. My daughter and I just completed 2 weeks on the JMT finishing at MTRanch from Happy Isles. We relived our hike, with even a deeper sense of awe and gratitude, watching this video. Thanks again
Awesome....great way to visualize the trail...looks like the contour intervals switched from feet to meters at some point...if a mileage ticker could be added as the map moved south this could be even better.....loved it...
That is so awesome! Thanks for posting that. Makes me tired just watching it but also makes me appreciate that I was able to walk the same trail as the 3-d dot thingy. You should have slowed it down and added sweat droplets and grunting sounds as the dot went up the passes. Very cool video!
Thanks for posting this. I would also like to see the same 3d John Muir trail map from South to North, from Whitney to Yosemite. It looks different from South to North.

Some of the current topo maps in California are metric. There is a story there somewhere.

Just came across this and it’s super helpful.
Thanks!

Wow, dad! is this the trail that will be the four day hike? I think it would take me a lot longer!
The GPS function in your app does not work.
Make sure that Route3D has Location privileges (which it normally does).
