Grant opening with the bit about having no hair on his legs had me cackling before the show properly started😂😂
Another banger! Get Swift on for a full episode!
Had a friend that had visited multiple SoCal skate spots in the 80s. We weren't bowl skaters but he went to visit Del Mar and they were in the process of demolishing it. He brought me a piece of the coping with blue and orange tile attached to it. Even though he didn't get to skate it and even though i didn't get out west until later, it's nice to have a park of skate history
You have some ORANGE tile?!?! Wanna trade something?
@@TonyHawk Chunk of orange tile on part of the concrete backed coping. As much as I love what you've done for skateboarding I think I want to hold onto it for now. In the event of my passing away I will have my estate send the piece to you.
@@hdoglesbyUnderstood. I respect your reverence for such an item. Thanks for replying.
How did no one else see this epic fucking interaction. I'm headbutting the sub button. Rn.
Grant's Lord of the Flies-type stories of the 80s era skateparks were the result of having the freedom to be a kid in the 80s and 90s. With parents around, kids are guided to be more civilized and mannered, but what is surrendered are the lessons in resilience, independence, and toughness. Skaters are definitely a lot nicer than they used to be, and the activity is very positive and supportive because of it. We are better skilled in the milieu of being cheered on, but the savagery of the early days made us stronger and able to cope under more challenging circumstances. You still see it in surfing. One thing that will never die, no matter the era or ethos of skating, is overcoming and managing failure. No matter how many parents or bullies are standing on the sidelines, a slam is still a slam. Getting up and trying it again is still rising to the occasion.
I'm really looking forward to the book. The peppering of Grant's talking shop throughout was enjoyable.
Grant, Bolster, Friedman, Stecyk, MoFo, Goodrich - decades of images seared into my retina. Way before the internet - we knew their images and their work. Grant sells his iconic prints - and they are AMAZING in person. So great to hear JGB tell his stories.
Thanks guys! I've been wanting an interview with this GOAT forever! Speaking of art, maybe you guys could get VCJ (Court) next?
Such a great episode - these two are legends and amazing to see and hear them in front of the camera after so many decades of seeing their photos show me what skating can be. Props!
So great. Picked up a push mug from Brittain's shop a few years ago. Good quality, size, and great graphic. Was always interested about the photographers. You'd see their name in the corner of the page, and wonder who's this?
Bought several iconic prints from grant’s shop. The highest quality and he’s a pleasure to deal with.
Super excited about this episode.I'm always trying to improve my skills as a Videographer
Great episode
As Grant mentions his skate photographer influences, he mentions "Sharp", which would be Stan Sharp (RIP), but the video shows an amazing photo by my friend and legendary UK photographer, Leo Sharp! Pretty funny. Brilliant episode.
Stan and William Sharp - amazing photographers
I love dudes like Grant that are quietly funny 🤣
Grew up looking at his photos. Killer interview.
Get swift on, his a legend in his own right.
Looks like Tony watches Gifted Hater.

Yo big ups for the hi ball pics- good episode. Glad to see hawk stay real with the non dye/ no botox and the tommy g style shirt - keep it human y'all
That’s a Del Mar Skate Ranch Shirt!
@@S0MA9000SERIES yup that's what he said, but since I never did del mar, haven't seen one- it looks like a tommy Guerrero baby, ain't no one rock a western button snap like TG lmfao
39:18 PLEASE do a discussion on that! I would love to hear your take on those events. I'm with Jason!
I do believe Tony's sporting the Del Mar employee uniform shirt!
Okay, that call to action at the front of the video was very effective.
X-games Rhode Island are some of my earliest memories!!

Great (and somewhat elusive) guests as far as skate pods go, so far guys. Please consider Lotti, Hensely and Templeton as potential guests down the line. Those dudes need recent interviews.
The shirt tony 😂
Okay, subscribed. :)
Thanks for subbing 😎❤️
"Australia didn't have croutons yet"
Tony is going gray ( the r is silent) or maybe that’s more Jason
