I have an idea for the game You could add a new club in the school It can be Girl Scouts Club. You could give out Girl Scout cookies to people in the school, and in the town outside the school. You could also have an option to poison the cookies. When you give out the cookies, the students and people living in the town will die. The max cookies you could give out though, is only 8.

This might be something you've already thought about. But when you mentioned each student checking for bodies, it reminded me of a stealth game I played that I really liked "Mark of the ninja". What the developers did there, is instead of making guards check for bodies, they made the bodies check for guards. Which also made it a lot easier for them to make guards react in small groups, telling one to check out a suspicious sound while the other stayed behind watching. Maybe it is something useful to consider.

A cool feature yandere dev could add to the game is if yandere joins the drama club and then tortures a student so they become a mind slave, when the mind slave kills the rival, Yandere has the ability to 'put on an act' and pretend she is as scared as everyone else. I know, I know yandere is an emotionless girl, so that is why she would have to join the drama club to do this, since in plays she would have to act. Not sure if this is just me, but I really don't like the idea of silhouettes being used in the game (and I'm talking about the use of "non-significant" students, not just the framerate option). It would really just break the game's immersion if there were a ton of students who you can't interact with, and who just look like blank slates.
About the low-quality student models... What if all of the characters (other than significant characters/important characters or teachers) were all blank, but once you got a high relationship with them, they could do complex favors for you and their models would get more detailed?
Most performance is killed by the pathfinding. If you would "merge" the pathfinding of some students to a "swarm" if they have nearly the same destination you could increase the performance. A physical Node Tree for the pathfinding would also increase performance as it isnt calculated each time. I mean the environment nearly never changes so that would be great. And then there are some algorithms to speed things up like: - occlusion culling - face culling - geometry culling - level of detail (lower quality of objects far away. less polygons, less resolution of textures) - removing all chunks that are not visible from the scene and adding them when you turn
RalleYTN stuff like this is what I thought of when he was discussing optimizations. Just look at something like Battlefield 1, by using many of the techniques you mentioned, that game not only looks jaw-droppingly good but also gets more than double the fps on my own PC (i5-6500, GTX 970)
I'm a developer myself. I dont use Unity but it seems that Unity isnt doing all this for you so you have to implement these things manually. But I think at least face culling is already done by the engine.

Also, the original Idea was never "feeling like you in a school" it was being a Yandere. If you meant having some extra students as silhouettes, it would be a necessity to not have the games frame rate plummet.
Because in most keyboard layouts you need a modifier to type a "?". I know many games require that you hit "~" to open the console and that works terribly even in games from AAA publishers.
It would be nice if the silhouettes were determined by sanity. for example high sanity means everyone is "clear" but when the sanity level drops she starts hallucinating seeing demons and shit. basically going from saturday morning. high school anime to a more Survival Horror atmosphere. the sanity feature should be explored more

yes, but there are characters that just make the game more immersive, like its all real. For instance: if pipi was just a pink silhouette then shee wouldn't have met or have developed emotions for that other guy who's name i forget in the gaming club. I like having different designs for the students, plus it makes the game feel more interactive
Imagine if the silhouettes were permanent.... how would kokona know what she likes or learn opinions on things? When she walked by someone with glasses, she would emote and show that she liked them. Making everyone but the main characters silhouettes would ruin features like that.
i hope its just a choice. like a feature you can turn on or off. Maybe having it on would make the game harder, etc. I just really feel that EVERYONE as silhouettes would make the game a bit more bland...

I think you could add a mode called “Empty School Mode”. This would remove any student that does not play a role. You know, a student that doesn’t do favors, doesn’t attack you, isn’t a rival, delinquent, or bully, or Fragile student, or a Student Council Member, or a character that talks to a character, example, Saki. 5 shadow students will play a role as a reputation booster to compliment, a murder victim, and an obstacle. Club leaders will show up as well. Think that could fix the framerate a punch?
Can the "every student checking things" code only be activated if needed? Depends on the player's actions and whether the student is around the player's vicinity. Maybe that will help. Honestly, we don't need that many students in the game. Maybe 10 or 20 more, but with so many students shoved down our throats it's not going to suit stealth gameplay. YandereDev said that hallways populated with too many students is just a huge disadvantage to Yandere Chan because there's nowhere to hide. I kinda wanted a functional counselor instead of this snowballing frame rate issue. But I guess these sudden student changes are for the better.

In a public setting you can't just get away with murder that easily when there's a hundred or so faces looking on, so populating the school seems to favor the stealth gameplay rather than hinder it imo.

RalleYTN stuff like this is what I thought of when he was discussing optimizations. Just look at something like Battlefield 1, by using many of the techniques you mentioned, that game not only looks jaw-droppingly good but also gets more than double the fps on my own PC (i5-6500, GTX 970)

I'm a developer myself. I dont use Unity but it seems that Unity isnt doing all this for you so you have to implement these things manually. But I think at least face culling is already done by the engine.

Don't worry, it is optional to have silhouettes. Besides, it may look weird but it is all depends on what you prioritise, texture or frame rate.

That would defeat some of the purpose of rendering students as silhouettes. Perhaps it could be an interesting compromise as a detail slider.
There's a way to accomplish what he is trying to accomplish and get the point across at the same time. Perhaps black silhouettes far away like shadows (provided he could somehow find a way to render more shadow like appearances instead of monotone colored polygons), and as they get closer, the individual person can be seen.

Also, the original Idea was never "feeling like you in a school" it was being a Yandere. If you meant having some extra students as silhouettes, it would be a necessity to not have the games frame rate plummet.

Viewing the game in a black and white perspective gives it an awesome atmosphere, and those shades actually look quite cool and, of course, whenever you are near senpai it should be colorful.

yes, but there are characters that just make the game more immersive, like its all real. For instance: if pipi was just a pink silhouette then shee wouldn't have met or have developed emotions for that other guy who's name i forget in the gaming club. I like having different designs for the students, plus it makes the game feel more interactive

Imagine if the silhouettes were permanent.... how would kokona know what she likes or learn opinions on things? When she walked by someone with glasses, she would emote and show that she liked them. Making everyone but the main characters silhouettes would ruin features like that.
i hope its just a choice. like a feature you can turn on or off. Maybe having it on would make the game harder, etc. I just really feel that EVERYONE as silhouettes would make the game a bit more bland...

Also YanDev is only proposing an idea that'll help the frame rate and allow others to play the game without the lag, I suggest you at least let him try it out and whether or not it works out or he likes it depends up to YanDev to keep it in the game. I think you could add a mode called “Empty School Mode”. This would remove any student that does not play a role. You know, a student that doesn’t do favors, doesn’t attack you, isn’t a rival, delinquent, or bully, or Fragile student, or a Student Council Member, or a character that talks to a character, example, Saki. 5 shadow students will play a role as a reputation booster to compliment, a murder victim, and an obstacle. Club leaders will show up as well.
Think that could fix the framerate a punch?
That would be incredibly boring. There would be no witnesses, and even if there was, they would be so incredibly easy to just kill.

Can the "every student checking things" code only be activated if needed? Depends on the player's actions and whether the student is around the player's vicinity. Maybe that will help. Well, I don't really know much about programming though.

Honestly, we don't need that many students in the game. Maybe 10 or 20 more, but with so many students shoved down our throats it's not going to suit stealth gameplay. YandereDev said that hallways populated with too many students is just a huge disadvantage to Yandere Chan because there's nowhere to hide.
I kinda wanted a functional counselor instead of this snowballing frame rate issue. But I guess these sudden student changes are for the better.
It makes stealth more challenging, so why not? You're not supposed to sneak around school like Agent 47, sometimes you have to blend.

In a public setting you can't just get away with murder that easily when there's a hundred or so faces looking on, so populating the school seems to favor the stealth gameplay rather than hinder it imo.
Yeah, I get that. I'm in for a challenge. I just don't want too much where it gets to the point of having the player quit the game because it was too frustrating...
