When I came out of my time all we fitted was the Wylex boards with re wirable fuses, happy memories. Also your dad was on a cracking wage back in the seventies.
Adam you need to make a claim 🤣🤣 "had an accident at work and its not your fault?" Great video Nick. Hopfully i start my course in september and been asking a few Electrical firms round my end but not many people want to take on a 32 year old appentice, but will take on when you say you will work for free to gain experiance. You have helped me over the past 2 years to gain my confidence to start electrical work so thank you
Whats with that switchboard at floor height in the lounge at 6:37 ?? Every toddler I know would be straight into that. I know you guys have switchboards in weird places in the UK but that one can't be compliant can it??
Bit of local history as you are from the area where I grew up, so these are Crabtree, and they was specially made with E7 Crabtree (Crabtree been from Cannock originally) boards for retro fits in the council housing estates the older pre fab ones that had MICC in conduit poured into the slabs. The E7 boards was custom made, custom drawings, and I still have some stuck in storage for a just in case moment but they really could not be used any where, designed to fit in a set amount of space, within a concrete pre fab, retrofitted to the old conduit MICC, where new cables could be pulled in, so these boards had extra space for this. The idea was it was faster for us to install if everything was just easy to fit to these pre fabs. Issue was we had boxes left over of those DP switches so the entire area of sparks would use them on other jobs. But this also meant those DP switches was because the original back box on the conduit was MICC so we had those made up so we did not have to redo MICC twice for each one and keep the MICC and back box and have a new DP switch. The original been horizontal. I have only ever seen these from that area and only ever knew Crabtree made them. This was all done when the councils has local works departments. Hope this helps.
Assaulting an apprentice? Naughty! And ending with "i've enjoyed today."....Enjoyed booting Adam?? LOL A nice 'day in the life of..' video. Thank you both.
Cert for every job. Most I turn up to it will be the first document they have for the installation. I leave a paper trail everywhere I go so the next guy has something to refer to. :)
Hi, is there a reason you do Zs readings at lights and showers? Generally I just calculate it with Ze and r1+r2 reading unless there is a socket that can be plugged into. In my view it is just not necessary and cuts out working live to a minimum, especially when you are on top of a ladder holding two or three probes trying to get a reading.
Great video, Adam probably deserved a boot anyway 🤣🤣 I recently bought a 2012 iMac so it would be uber great to have another apple product to connect up to it as i have no idea what to do with it currently 🤣🤣 well other than watch your TH-cam videos on it currently 🤔
I got round to clearing out my hoarder dads sheds a year after he died. I found 20 litres of diesel and fired it in my car 6 month later and 1200 quid down the bastards finally running
Hi, we don’t do minor works for accessory changes unless it involves changes to the wiring. On your shower job did you just test the new shower circuit or did you test the lighting circuit as well because you moved a circuit across?
Great vid again nick 💪💪 I know you mentioned minor works certificate for a light fitting, I’m getting a sparks to do some stuff for me and hoping he will give me one for a decorative metal light fitting so when I sell the house it doesn’t cause aggro, also would you issue a mwc for just a socket change to a usb one and even something as small as fitting a fcu to an existing bathroom extractor fan circuit?(as manufacturer requires a 3amp fuse for fan). And even changing normal white plastic socket covers to more decorative (metal brushed style) would you do a mwc for them? I just want to know so I can ask the right questions , wish you and Adam lived closer I’d have you in a breath to do my stuff 👍👍🙌🏻🙌🏻
Hi Nick, when you book in work for an estate agents like a EICR or the remedial works and the tenants isn't in do you charge for lost time. This is an issue that been happening to me alot recently and I'm just wondering what other sparks do.
I usually have an agreement with the estate agency/property management companies, that any fail entry attempt on a pre-booked job results in a fine. This will be billed to the landlord, who will no doubt pass the fine on to the tenant. But ultimately it is the responsibility of the agency to pay you, as they are your client. Although a lot of them only pay you once they have received it from the landlords, which varies greatly. I am the one booking the jobs in with the tenants directly, so I make them aware of any fines for failed entry on pre-booked work. I usually give them a 24 hour leeway, so if they give at least 24 hours notice they won't incur a fee. But if you make the fee quite high (Not full job cost), this usually filters out the bad tenants before you get to this point.
@@makg4655 Depends on how you view it, I have zero tolerance for time wasters. All parties have been made well aware of the terms well in advance and have agreed. At the end of the day I need to earn a wage to keep my business running, feed my family, pay bills etc. Why should I take a loss of earnings because a customer "forgot about the work" or other daft reasons. There are some legitimate reasons where I would waiver the fee. But even if it's a first time offender, they shouldn't get away with a slap on the wrist. My opinion anyway.

There's a point in this video that you look like Saint Nick of Covid, with your fingers poised to give a blessing. I wouldn't have noticed if it weren't for the ads.
