    Fascinating, no kidding. I've been feeding meters dimes and quarters for over 45 years and to see the design composition and operation is amazing. This stuff is so valuable to provide samples for future DIY design considerations. Thanks for sharing.

    Looks good, you could try that head light stuff they sell at wal-mart. But either way they look good.

    I've had some pretty good luck squirting small amounts of acetone on tubing and timing it just right before rinsing it with water, it generally melts away the layer with gunk first and the water keeps it from getting too melty and getting streaks. Short of having a solvent collection for your circulating water, maybe try watering down the acetone 50/50 for a quick shot?

    you can use really fine wet 1000-1500 grit sandpaper to remove the scratches. Then buff with a car polish

      +Dan Hayami yeah i tried that, ethanol seemed better for this.

    The denaturing agent in ethanol sometimes includes acetone. I found that out once after fogging up some bezels after substituting denatured ethanol for isopropyl alcohol.

    Use whitening toothpaste to scrub the clear plastic works great on fogged over headlights to.

    You should start a little project where you should hang lights in your backyard that run off your solar generator, that would be awesome

    You should be able to restore the plastic like new. A cool back lighting with LED lighting would look great.
    I use Novia plastic cleaner to polish my windshield on my motor cycle. It comes in three or four grades to progressively restore the plastic to like new finish.

    Say what are you using for a "base"(?) for your custom buffer? I want to restore some headlights on a truck I just got and I didn't want to buy any thing else if I didn't need to.

      A wire wheel, but that's not safe because if a wire pokes through it will scratch you headlight lens

    • @RinoaL
      @RinoaL  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      i doubt the wire will poke through all 4 layers of cloth very easilly. i removed it today and they barely poked through one.

      Oh man. Alright. I was hoping I could make something. Did you ever see that GIF on Reddit a couple months back where someone put a brush on a power drill and made a crazy scrubber? I thought that was something like that.

    Great vid! using any type of solvent on any type of plastic is a really bad idea. I always use Flitz Polish on any type of plastic.

    maybe make a stand and put it where you usually park your tractor or lawn mower. Looks way better after the cleaning :)

      Also It was likely the acetone that cracked the lens as when it evaporates it pulls heat out of the surroundings very quickly. This likely cooled the lens very quickly causing it to crack due to a temperature differential, the same way glass can crack. I've cracked linoleum tiles before when I was trying to remove the adhesive from the back with acetone.

    Rinoa, I hope you sell a lot of the items you restore after a peroid of enjoying them. You can make a tremendous amount of $$$'s. It would enable you to get yourself the tools that you lack or wish you had.
    Just a thought. Cheers.

    • @RinoaL
      @RinoaL  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah i am putting things in my antique store booth slowly and selling them. although i am a sucker for coin operated stuff so will probably keep this.
      although there really arent that many tools that i feel i lack, besides large things like lathes. i feel i need to spend more time learning what i can do with what i already have.

    • @thelamb288
      @thelamb288 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      AAAaaahhhhh......so it would be DANGEROUS to let YOU refurbish say, an old fashioned one-armed-bandit that was purely mechanical :D Cheers.

      whats that?

    • @thelamb288

      I am ""pulling your leg", as we say in the UK.
      I mean if you got a slot machine from an amusement park, way back when, you probably would fall in love with it and never ever sell it :) Cheers.

    • @RinoaL
      @RinoaL  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      pulling one's leg isnt a uk only phrase, and if i found a slot machine i would tear it down for its coin-op parts. slot machines are useless and so are meaningless to me.

    It would be cool to make the meters into an alarm clock even though some people don't use them

    What type of income do you make from TH-cam nowadays, because i remember in late 2013 you made about $40 a week. I am just curious, if you don't want to answer that is just fine

    Next time when you clean the fog of the plastic capes you should use bug spray because bug spray contains alcohol.
