In April 2021, sixty-four-year-old Michael Jefferson was arrested and charged with Roger's murder and attempted kidnapping. Investigators used genetic genealogy to match DNA from the ski mask found at the crime scene to Jefferson. It was determined that he had been living in Colorado at the time of the murder and had a criminal history in Denver. An investigator who heard his voice also noted that it sounded the same as the extortionist (who had sent the Deans cassette tapes with his voice on it). On April 6, Jefferson was extradited from Los Angeles to Colorado to face prosecution. If convicted, he could receive a life sentence. Sadly, D.J. passed away in 2020 at the age of eighty-four.
When most people remember this show they say it was scary. But many of the stories were about non-scary topics, such as long lost siblings finding each other, or unknown charitable donors being located. Those were important parts of the show, too!
An update in 2020?! Did not see that coming, but am very happy that they are still able to solve some of these cases well after the show went off the air.
Agreed, but the problem is the punishment of the criminals never equals the crimes they committed. Jefferson was finally caught 35 years after the murder, he was on the run all this time and now he's an old man who will probably be dead by the time he even serves a portion of his sentence. The only way to seek justice for a cold-blooded murder is to execute the murderer in the same way he tortured his victim.
Second story sadly DJ the wife passed away at the age of 84. I know she wanted to believe in her heart of hearts that her husband was a good guy and would never had planned anything. I don’t get it. Why would Roger Dean rob his own savings account, “so he can have that $30,000 to himself”, as the cop said? He already did have it to himself. Plus, he’d likely have to split it with the other guy, so he’d be robbing himself for 30k, in order to keep 15k? It doesn’t make sense.
The FDIC insures savings accounts up to a certain amount against things like theft (I think it's currently $250,000, but at the time was more like $100,000.) If the money was stolen, it would be reimbursed, meaning he'd have the original 30k on top of the reimbursed $30k, minus whatever he paid the burglar (which didn't have to be split in half, he might have just promised him 10 grand if he did it.)
Because it was a robbery he was hoping the bank would replace the 30,000 so then he could return the 30,000 embezzled from the business back and still split the other 30 with the other guy. Except he didn’t realize the guy he hired was going to kill him and then harass his wife for the next 10 years

it always baffles me that in the USA they still give credit to polygraph tests, which have been proven to be pseudoscience and not reliable at all
They did years ago, but I think they've fallen out of favor. Remember that these episodes were from the 1980s and 1990s.
I mean there are scientific factors that come into play on them...though as you said they are not reliable 100% of the time. At least they are not admissible in court. Mainly today they are used to coerce confessions from paranoid peeps under the hot lamps.
