- Back in April, my son Reid died. Comments were overwhelmingly kind, but some people mocked his death. Here's my response.

To mock a Child's death is like a symptom of some sort of illness.

As a Christian physician who specializes in neuromuscular disorders and EMG I appreciate the care you had to provide for your son. The callousness of anyone who would mock you is unbelievable.

I am autistic. I was almost miscarried and when I was a year old, I had meningitis (bacterial). Soon after that, I had seizures pretty much all day everyday for the next 3 or so years. Many pediatricians were telling my parents that I was going to be a vegetable if I were to survive at all. A little bit of background; I was born in Puerto Rico but grew up in Boston, MA. Pediatricians in Boston would discourage my parents from teaching me both English and Spanish, stating I would be too "dumb" to learn both. To this day, I can understand Spanish but can't really speak it. At least, I don't trust myself enough to speak. I feel an emotional barrier from learning it too. Anyway, my parents decided to raise me the best they could. I was in special education and was encouraged to do other activities that sort of "force" me to interact with other kids. I am now 43 years old. Although it may have taken me longer than most, I got a bachelor's degree. I have a part-time job at a movie theater that I love. I am obsessed with Pokemon. The point I am trying to make is, my parents could have abandoned me or not have high hopes for me like doctors but they didn't. I am more than what they all thought. So was your son. I agree that he looked happier than any of those haters probably are.

I’m an atheist and offer my most sincere condolences. None of these people would ever dare say this to a father who lost his son to his face. My little brother was 27 when he passed away in June. The pain is indescribable. I’m so sorry for you and your family for your loss. I truly am.

@zinzincoetzee1934 it's clinical psychopathy. He's not ashamed to admit it, or speak openly about it. After following him for years I've seen him lose a brother, a best friend and a mother as well. He also was in prison for an... unfortunate.... decision he made with regard to his father. He just simply doesn't feel things that a regular brain feels. He's on a pretty extreme end of it too; many psychopaths have attachment to certain people but can't form genuine emotions for anyone else. He is totally unfeeling with regard to pain and empathy as emotions to anyone, but he does understand the meaning and regard behind those emotions.

My son was murdered three years ago so I’m super sensitive about this stuff. I can’t believe people would say such horrible things like that. I cried my eyes out this whole video. This is disgusting. There are many kind Muslims. Although I severely disagree with Islam that does not negate the fact many Muslims are kind, caring people. I work in healthcare and some of the best physicians come from Muslim background. I hope something good happens to you today. I have Muslim friends whom I love like brothers.

It's so disgusting that anyone would do that. When my daughter was missing... She was gone for 4 years... During that time some people wrote, "If God loves you so much why can't he find your daughter!?" Or "You're probably an awful mother and she ran away from you!" It broke my heart...I mourned the loss of my child. I shared my story to try to give others hope...but in my most pain people only tried to make me hurt more. I felt so angry at them... It was so difficult trying to forgive them. I told God I trusted him no matter what they said. My daughter was found years later, but had been trafficked and was covered in facial tattoos (branding), had severe wounds, STDs.... It has been awful. She had to go through a lot of treatment and still struggles with addiction because they would force the girls to do drugs. If they tried running they would go through withdrawals and end up going back. My daughter was found with two men... One was a 40 year old murderer on the run and the other was a 38 yr old convict. The police said she was so drugged she could not even hold herself up. I didn't share any of this with the world... Because I couldn't bare the thought of what those evil people would say. I'm so sorry you went through that and I understand your pain. Those people will see the truth whether they accept God or whether they don't. We will all die someday and have to answer to God.

Honestly, I was one of those edgy atheists a while back. After stumbling on this video a few months ago, I decided to return to Christ. Your whole channel is a godsend, David.
Edit on 31/03/2024: For clarification, I rejected atheism a long time ago and was nominally Christian from my last 2 years of high school till about a year ago. That's about 4 years that I've been convinced of Christ. That does not mean that I followed him at all in that time, however. Now I am working on my relationship with him and feel immense guilt for ever having rejected him. David Wood has been a large reason for my return to Christ. I was an atheist for about 2 or 3 years in my junior High school phase, but I hid that from everyone. I was raised a Calvinist and it would have been quite a stir to come out as an atheist. Luckily in the end I needn't have bothered, since I am again trying to rejoin the correct path. Praise be to God for saving me from certain death.

I’m a Christian and I’ve had multiple disabilities myself ever since I was born; I have one leg, spina bifida, and cross fused kidneys. It is hands down one of the most horrible things to mock someone’s child who has died, whether they are disabled or not. These people are absolutely disgusting. I had cancer at 18 months old. It kept coming back, it paralysed me from the waist down. It was said that I was better off dead due to my suffering.
I have lived as a disabled person and though it has been difficult it has been completely worth while. I was NOT better off dead. No matter what.
I have had chronic pain since 13. At 21 my life seemed worthless. At 35 I finally got some proper support from the NHS and since then I am happy, I use my skills to help others.
Again I say, I was NOT better off dead.
I struggle with my mental health and it makes my life harder. Right now I'm not in a great place and I've been through much much worse times. I'm grateful that I'm feeling a lot better than I was at my most ill, and I am grateful for my life.
There have been times where I sincerely wished I had never been born, and I am glad other people valued my life for me in those times and that they went to extraordinary measures to prevent me from taking it when I was actively suicidal.

When I was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at two years old the average life expectancy was a harsh 20 years. I received a double lung transplant 12 years ago when I was 29. Now at 41 I’m married and working full time as a crane operator. I thank God for my parents and siblings for sacrificing so much for me and showing me so much love.
I don’t know how you made it through this video (which my wife sent me) so soberly. I was tearing up so much. And not just for your love for your son but when you so concisely and completely told the amazing story of Abraham, Isaac, God our Father, and Jesus. I am your catholic sister and I am a P.A! I very much agree and have had plenty of people of all ages die whilst I was involved either in their resuscitation or their care when they were long term, return patients. It to this very day emotionally touches me if we lose the battle trying to save someones life, apart from age, gender, ethnicities, color/race! Everytime as soon as possible I will retreat to the hospitals chapel, to pray for the stranger whose life we just tried to save but lost. It would never occur to me, to eliminate a life growing inside a woman's womb just because the child will likelybe severely disabled. Even if that child was to only survive for a few hours after being born,I would choose to carry that little human to term, bring him/her into the world and love on my baby until he/she goes to be with the Lord. I do believe that we've been witnessing the weakening of satan's power because as the battle rages between Heaven and hell, it's being reflected on earth.
The evil powers that be know that they've lost control and they are thrashing about just like the "god" they worship who will not go down without a fight. Both satan and his worshippers, the ones who control the levers of power over humanity, are causing as much death and destruction as possible until God extinguishes them. They're acting hastily, as opposed patiently, which they had done for the past century as they took their time to implement their evil agendae so that their infiltration would be subtle in such a way that most people wouldn't notice because it was gradual.
They infiltrated every sector of society, but people are now seeing it because the measures they have taken over the past 2 years have been so drastic and contrary to all that is good.
People are waking up and they're fighting against the evil that the satanists are desperately trying to inflict and make stick.
This waking up of the masses has been called the Great Awakening, and thanks be to God, the overwhelming majority are taking a stand and rejecting the disorder of satan.
If we don't receive the chastisement that we deserve and God graciously shows us mercy, then within two years (but hopefully sooner) we will be experiencing life better than we could have ever imagined, as we will have the freedom that God intended for us. And that freedom could very well be the start of the 1000 years of peace.
I apologize if I sound off the wall, but I've been awake for 30 hours and I'm fully aware that I didn't do a sufficient job explaining this better, as it wasn't written with the clarity that I hoped to convey. I wish that I could have done a better job explaining it in a way that's logical and makes more sense.
I've been researching this for several years and there are so many components to what has been happening.
At any rate, my prayer is that everyone, especially non-believers, recognize that God is the Alpha and the Omega, that He should be our number 1 priority, that without Him we have nothing, that He is all-deserving of our love, that we are called to worship Him and Him alone, that following His Commandments is liberating and not stifling, and that our hearts will be restless until they rest in the LORD (St. Augustine).
I have more prayers than that for humanity, but I've rambled enough.

Back when I was an Atheist (close to half my life), I was quick to dismiss any immediate interpretation of a bad event as proof that "if God existed He'd be an evil one." This God has a vision of cause and effect that spans millennia, far superior to our own.
You can't imagine how much more meaningful life is for me now that I've reverted. And don't assume I'm a typical Christian that Atheists often use as a strawman - someone who believes in an afterlife to cope with this life. I'm pretty sure in the current state I'm living my life I'd go down in a waterslide to hell. Still, I have hope, and life has meaning.

I feel like you're an amazing dad and that is holier than anything I read in any book. Loss is an inevitable part of life, a pain we all share. My grandmother had a disabled son and my grandfather blamed her for his condition. The amount of grief she must have went through her life after he passed. We talked alot even though I never met my uncle since he died years before I was born but my granny just had a heart of gold. Someone who lived for others and she never lost her faith. I was raised in a christian household but as an adult don't feel the need for a church or someone to tell me what to do. I believe in the good in the world and the people who manifest it.

Being agnostic is like being a Christian in some sense. Some things are vague, many questions unanswered but we have the strength to admit the things we don’t understand.
That, in itself, is much harder to do.
Many people convince themselves that nothing is unreachable, and nothing is unknown.
Those people often mock life itself for having the audacity to exist. They see it as a cruel trick to be given a life only to eventually lose it.
They don’t see life as the chance to do great things, to create legacies and memories.
They see it like a toy they should be able to selfishly keep.
But, it’s really no fun playing alone is it?
Sharing might be the only reason life is so great. Otherwise we would all be the last person on earth, or the final kid on the playground

As a social education teacher I work with mentally handicapped adults.
Two years ago one of them died.
We all knew it would happen soon and we were all preparing for that day, we as support persons, his parents and himself.
With support from us and his parents he had beforehand chosen every salm, Bible reading and song to be used at the funeral.
His friends, family, I and my collegues all attended, except those who weren't able as they were attending to the few residents at the institution, who could not be there.
I tell you: never have I been to a funeral so heaven-centered!
He had always shown a strong faith in Christ and even at his funeral he witnessed and pointed to Jesus as the Saviour of all who want to spend eternity with the creator of all!
Must have been all those vaccines he had.
Pure brilliance. What the enemies meant for evil was turned around for good in a big way with this video.

Dr David Wood, everyone writing you these sorrowing words are beneath you and you know what a beautiful family you have. I have myself worked with special needs kids for many years. The kid I worked with taking care of for two years where sometimes tiring and hard but this kid had a special way of reviving my spirit with his ways. He often told me my name and then that he loved me, 9 years old. That experience made me a far better person that what I was before and I share your view of these children making everyone around them better persons.
I sincerely believe that social media brings out the worst in people. They insult you from behind a keyboard, but they would never dare do it to you in person. Each and every one of them are cowards.
That's thing it also brings out the best in people ..The percentage of comments is usually much smaller than the positive compassionate comments.

I am in awe of how wonderfully, lovingly, and intricately you weaved Reid’s life story and death into an incredible life warning and lesson for the atheist trolls and Muslim haters. Following the process of your story, especially Abraham and Isaac, you taught me nuances and subtleties of the pre incarnate Christ that I had not previously connected. I have a brother with multiple disabilities, including epilepsy, cerebral palsy, and autism.
His life is far from perfect but he’s still one of the happiest people I know.
My parents were violently harassed for not aborting, by family, “friends”, and doctors.
Seeing how people have treated you after the loss of your son is just sickening. I’m sorry for your loss.
I want to tell you that you absolutely did the right thing by choosing life for your son. I’m sure his life was beautiful. And it’s thanks to you and your wife’s mercy on him. And God’s mercy in the end of it all.
