  • If you've been watching what's going on in Alaska, it's no surprise that we just got hit with a TON of snow, rain and wind. After getting a few feet of snow on December 25th and 26th, we then welcomed a warm day at +38 bringing rain (5"+) which created a nice sheet of ice on literally everything. After clearing and cleaning up after that, we were then hit with another foot or two of snow. At this rate, I stopped measuring, but the weather center here measured 45" so far in the month of December for North Pole. This did not include the rain. Needless to say, everything was a mess! Yards, homes, campers, cars and roads took almost a week to clear up with plow drivers of all kinds working day and night helping to clear the mess. Many people and homes went without power for days on end, with -40 temps creeping up. Linemen worked endless hours restoring power to those in need and clearing lines of fallen trees and branches from the heavy winds. Alaska is definitely the place for the ultimate winter storms!

A shelter built over your trailer would prevent the shovelling, something to think about in the future, wouldn,t be very expensive would help keeping it out of inclement weather. Enjoying your videos, where exactly are you near, is there employment near you, schools, shopping etc??

That’s a great idea Carolyn! Thank you! We’ve debated about multiple types of shelters for it and we’ll eventually want to build something. Our poor Arizona camper is taking a beating with these cold temps, but nothing we cannot fix back up.
We’re in North Pole and we’re so blessed to have found this property. It’s one of the few with no direct neighbors, road access and power right along the Chena River. We’re about 15 minutes to schools, Safeway, church etc. and only 25 minutes to south Fairbanks with main shops and stores in town. We feel very blessed for both access to town and major privacy (something we rarely had in our HOA subdivision of Arizona).

Look for a roof snow removal thing. I don't know what it's called but I've seen them on other Alaskan homestead videos. Much easier.

Yes! A snow rake I believe it’s called. We’ll be super prepared for next winter. Our running joke so far this winter is having record breaking snow falls with a grain shovel to remove it all lol!
