    Generations of guitarists have passed since 1958....and all see him as the inspiration with a big heart, whose modesty places him even higher on the podium of virtuosity in terms of electric guitar!
    Hats off to Hank for all the feats that rocked our youth and made us love the sound of the guitar!

    Great guitar player, what I like about his sytle of playing is that he doesn't make the guitar scream or wail on the high notes, the sound is so crisp, I marvelled at the different sounds that he produced on one guitar, He's truly a craftsman at his trade.

    Let's face it: Hank Marvin is a guitarist that has influenced so many others; including most of the famous guitarists you hear today. He can play anything in any genre; on either acoustic or electric!! He ranks amongst the greatest!! The only reason he has refused a Royal Award for Music (which he was given) is because of personal beliefs

    Wonderful to see. A creative genius who gave all fans of Cliff and The Shadows so much pleasure over the years with no strings attached! Looks like he hasn't aged one bit since the 70s. Long may he reign supreme. KAN

    Hank Marvin is a trailblazer, who transformed the English music scene playing his now iconic guitar sound and technique, “he’s my hero “ and documented my life with his hits and the Shadows, bloody-fantastic, work Hank. Thank you for your contribution to the pop music and my love of your music😂😂❤❤

    Hank is the master of making it look easy...even as a 12 year old obsessed with Malmsteen, Rhoads and Vai, I could see this Guy was something else!
    Saw him live too...played the Theme from The Deer Hunter. His mastery of the volume control and whammy bar dropped jaws. I can see where Jeff Beck got his style
    And Hank CAN shred, too! He’s taken private lessons from the Reinhardt family as he’s a huge gypsy jazz fan

    Back in the 1980s I was obsessed with speed, shredders and fretboard flash but now I'm approaching my dotage, I finally understand Hank. The gaps between what he says with his fingers are just as important as the notes he plays. Read a novel as fast as you can and you miss every inflection and nuance but read it as Hank plays it and it comes alive.

    • @surfdigby

      I was a flashy widdly widdly guitarist in my youth, and I saw Hank as the opposite of everything I was impressed by (Randy Rhoads, Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, etc). I once tried to prove that he was nothing special by trying to play Foot Tapper, and I failed miserably. What made it even more frustrating was that it doesn't sound difficult even when compared to other Shadows songs, but it kicked my arse.
      Now that I'm a better player, I've gone back to it, and while I can play it now, it's deceptively tricky.
      That fast ascending run in Peggy Sue looks like it'll be a challenge.

      Indeed! First time I heard Hank's music was around the time I entered my last year at school, and my dad bought an album on vinyl, then later on CD, when it became the new thing. But I was just entranced by his style as dad and I would play chess and we would put Shads on in the background. I then got a strat-type guitar bought once I left school, and once I got the hang of it began playing the shads music as near as I could seeing as I played by ear. Nowadays, I've tried my hand at uploads too although I'm not as good as him, so my channel features a couple hank-inspired tunes here and there which is my tribute to how awesome and legendary his music really is.
      Nice one on this upload

      Many years ago, it was 1961 and I was 11 years old, I first played a vinyl of 45 rounds of shadows (Apache). Since then, I have not stopped listening to them and I think H.M. the most influential guitarist of the twentieth century. He taught everyone a new way to play the guitar.

    • @BrafeMan
      @BrafeMan 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. He was inspired by the effects made by contemporaries in his younger days, but he made his sound unique and everybody that hears it knows right away that it is him. I love his music and it inspired me to play lead guitar too.

      One Floyd - The Solo Pink Floyd Tribute Show not really. "Rumble" by Link Wray, was the first instrumental hit, recorded in 1954, although of course "Apache" was a huge hit and really brought the guitar instrumental to the masses.

    No doubting it, Hank was a natural who grabbed his opportunity with bother hands, his feet, his heart and his fertile mind. He's modest, witty, clean and wholesome with no "attitude" that bedevils far too many Pop artistes and sets no worthwhile standard at all. Here we see just how open & honest he is too. The problems start when you try to actually do it! That's the guitar for you. Hank is also very inventive, and accurate. He leaves himself no-where to hide. You will hear almost every error. So, quite a line up of gifts. {Notice I have not mentioned how good looking he is!}

    I met Hank B. Marvin in the early 80's in Baden Baden, Germany, at the TV studio there. At the time, my band "The four Windows" had our first album out and I was spending quite some time with Hank in the artist lounge between takes. Btw, Melanie (I got a pair of brand new roller skates) was also there. What a nice guy Hank is, a true star, but without the star allures. He had 'taught' me playing the guitar when I was in high school, by getting me hooked listening to Apache, FBI and all the other great tunes. Thank you Hank!

    I found this by accident. This is a great electric biography. Thanks for posting. The Shads, Ventures and Los Straightjackets are my principals. Love guitar music like this. I play steel, but appreciate these artists as well.

    Hank Marvin is one of the world's best guitar player and composer ever. His melodious compositions defined an era before the Beatles, where mostly electric guitar instrumentals were the order of the day. You just can't please everyone on this planet thus there will always be detractors.
