ITV's exit poll of 68 seats is lot better than the BBC's which was a Conservative majority of 26 seats. The Actual majority was 101

This was Alistair Burnet's last election night for ITV. He retired in 1991.

Also ITV’s last election from ITN House on Wells Street (before moving to their forever home at 200 Gray’s Inn Road in 1991).

@@johnnyballenatl Grays Inn Road gave them more room, but for the 1992 general election, they didn't use it, and remain confined into their fairly average Studio 1 in the basement. It wasn't until the 1997 general election that they decided to use their large atrium for their election night, and used it again in 2001, then seen in their VR backdrop for 2005 election, and then in 2019.

I wonder why that Oscars-esque revealing of the exit poll result from a sealed envelope never caught on...
The guy who handed Alastair Burnet the envelope looked like he had a block of explosives attached to his belt.

The actual result was a Conservative majority of 102!

Still it was better that the BBC prediction of 26 revealed at the same time

The exit poll matches the one on spitting image. I’m confused. If they kept it a secret, did spitting image air before or after the results program

@@Gallowaywind Yes that's right then it's fade into the pre recorded part though there was a back up version if Labour won which sadly never aired.

This is when she entered her "Pinochet in a dress" phase; her first term was rocky to say the least but her second term is when she said "fuck it, this is what I want to do" and went ahead and did it regardless of criticism or damage. This third term was, in her mind, a vindication of her actions and literally convinced herself she could do whatever the hell she wanted. Besides, Labour weren't really putting up much of a cohesive fight under kinnock and the alliance had began to crumble.
