What to Know about Monkey Pox

A virus that is of the same family as smallpox. It was first isolated in Denmark in the late 1950s.
🐒𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗱?
-Direct: contact with infectious sores, scabs, or body fluids, sexual and/or close intimate contact
-Indirectly : clothing or linens contaminated with infectious material from body fluids or sores
-Vertical transmission: can cross the placenta from the mother to her fetus
-respiratory secretions
🐒 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁?
fevers, chills, and myalgias, characteristic rash
🐒𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝘂𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱?
Estimation of time from exposure to onset of symptoms is about 5 to 13 days but can range from 4 to 21 days
🐒𝗜𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁?
At this time, 𝙏𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙫𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙩 is the treatment of choice
𝘼𝙣𝙠𝙖𝙧𝙖: vaccine for prevention of smallpox and monkeypox disease in adults determined to be at high risk
🐒𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 / 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀?
From the onset of clinical manifestations until all skin lesions have scabbed and healed
🐒𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀?
* Do not touch the rash or scabs of a person with monkeypox.
* Do not kiss, hug, cuddle or have sex with someone with monkeypox.
* Avoid contact with objects and materials that a person with monkeypox has used.
* Do not handle or touch the bedding, towels, or clothing of a person with monkeypox.
* Wash your hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, especially before eating or touching your face and after you use the bathroom.
