I love the picture behind you. I am sure you know that it is inspired from Isaiah 11:6. I LOVE your creative homemade gift ideas. Thank you for the inspiration.
I save brown paper grocery bags, I cut them into gift wrap and then added nature elements as the outer décor. When I have time I stamp the paper. It saddens me to see so much waste. So many things can be repurposed.

Years ago, I told my family I was having a Christmas dinner, but no gifts. I was surprised how many did not come. It actually was a test after a family member made a nasty comment. After 3 years, I added gifts back in but I downsized what I spent. Now I give everyone cash, but I added in cookies, breads, and homemade candy. I have slowly added in a small gift bag of items from local small businesses, our local larger stores, and items that support charities.

Shoot my family did the same thing but because we all had what we wanted and if we needed anything we usually just bought it. So we gathered, ate a ton of food and played games. Now that we have kids, they get a little present from uncles and aunts. But that’s about it.

Love the print behind you of the Lion and the lambs! We were short of money growing up so our mom knitted slippers with pompoms on the toes! And we made candles by filling empty milk cartons (with the tops cut off) with ice cubes, the poured the wax, coloured with crayons, over the ice! Hung the wicks off pencils! So pretty as the burned into the lacy design left by the ice!! Thanks for the memories, Jill! God bless you and your family!

This year more than ever, I am keeping it super simple because not only do I love making homemade gifts but my husband has been unemployed for several months and doesn't start his new job until January and we just don't have the money to buy gifts. All of our resources have gone to getting our small homestead up and running. Thank you for these great ideas. 👩‍🌾

Homemade sugar scrubs in Mason jars with ingredients you usually have in your pantry. 1/2 to 2/3 c. Sugar or brown sugar, liquid oil enough to coat sugar(your choice) 1 or 2 tbsp baking soda (makes skin feel great after) then either add coffee grounds, or pie spice, or cinnamon, cocoa powder, some kind of nice smelling spice.... in a 1/2 pint jar, double recipe for pints and tie on a little wood spoon. Add instructions to the labels to not get water into the sugar scrub so it doesn't mold. My cousin and Aunt absolutely love my homemade gifts. I also make homemade vanilla as it is considerably cheaper to make your own. I dehydrated marshmallows to add to hot chocolate mix, can buy a special mug, and have that as a gift.

Wow...I usually am not a big reader of the comments, but for some reason I did this time. Such unhelpful and childishly rude remarks really surprised me. Your first few minutes about the topic of homemade gifts was tactfully done, in my opinion. People are not of one mind regarding homemade gifts and not consistently really on board with "it's the thought that counts". In my adult life, as a wife/mom/grandmother/teacher I have received many gifts that have just been hard to receive, whether they were homemade or not; it was clear that the giver just didn't really know me or had not put much thought into the choice. If the relationship is important to me, I have one option. Show gratitude. When I give a gift that I suspect was not well-received, I have gained knowledge and can use it for future gift-giving. Goodness, people, life is too short and relationships are too fragile to to criticize suggestions for gift-giving,and/or take offense about gift-receiving.

40 years plus ago there's not much of a holiday when you're on welfare, all I could afford for my very two young girls was a box of crayons and a coloring book, but I did put tinsel on the wall in the shape of a tree I had them color and make a Garland and ornaments for that tree, now food stamps were generous back in the day, so we made plenty of cakes, cookies, candies, and bake breads and we handed them out, now the grandparents made sure they had Christmas for them but it was I who could not do that, but let me tell you the first thing they expect no matter what I get them, at 49 and 46 years old, is a box of crayons and a coloring book. Merry Christmas everyone.

I would have never thought of frozen casseroles. I have some elderly friends that this will be perfect for. Some small casseroles in disposable pans that are frozen and they can just thaw and pop in the oven.

I think the most import thing you really hit on was that one gift does not fit all. The best gifts are ones that are truly based off of the person receiving it. We also like to do experiences over gifts, building memories instead of stuff. Lots of great ideas, thanks for sharing!

Mindfulness seems to be on everyone's mind lately. I prefer the term 'hand crafted' to 'homemade' just because of the connotation of the terms. Hand crafted always gives the feeling of taking time and expertise.
I love my dryer balls. I had some feltable yarn I no longer cared for the color, so I made myself 6 new dryer balls.
Candles - there is always a quarter inch or so in the bottom of a candle. I had 12 or so candle 'ends' and created 2 layered candles. I tried to keep the scents in categories - fall scents, spring scents, etc. I reused another candle holder from past candles. I only buy candles with lids so they can be reused.
Kids gifts - some people may not think of them as recyclable, but I give my grandsons bunches of stuff to explore - an old phone (yes, I still have several landline phones I no longer use). Yarns and a knitting loom is an opportunity for your young ones to make their own gifts. Books from the reused bookstores. A local one to me sells all children and YA books at buy one get two free this time of year. I always have lots of crafting stuff, so my grandkids love to create lots of items for their parents.
Decorations - several years ago I broke my arm and could not move it for two months. My grandsons and I created all the ornaments from the catalogs and magazines we receive this time of year. Everything from paper chains to stars to snowflakes to stitched ornaments. They still talk about making these decorations.

Let me tell you about the absolute worst "hand" made gift I have received. It was government cheese. The weird tasting squishy cheese that comes in blocks. It was mixed with green dye, formed into a cone to resemble a Christmas tree. It was complete with fingerprints and dog hair. Presented on a cheap paper plate, unwrapped ( maybe that's where the dog hair came from). You can argue poor all you want, this person knew better, but I guess she was using a drug addicts judgement.

Violet is probably a tacky gift giver. And is mostly definitely a rude comment maker. Chill Violet and work on your personal traumas so you are less likely to spew them on to others. There is a lot of love for you here regardless.

@@christinemose7308 weird how you have to attack people because they think differently than you. Just because I don't go around thinking I'm better than everyone doesn't mean I'm spewing trauma.

@@violet5610 you did the attacking sweetheart. She never said or even implied a notion of superiority in her gift giving. You did that. You are merely reflecting your own insecurities because you are, to date, unwilling to work through your own emotional wounds. Give it try. Forgive yourself, forgive others, learn to love yourself. Then you will be able to accept and bestow generosity from and to others.

    • @violet5610
      @violet5610 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@christinemose7308 you literally said I must give tacky gifts because I was projecting. I merely said it was gross and it came across poorly. I was not attacking her as a person. I'm allowed to have opinions. You are the simp who attacked a stranger for not worshipping your idols. I never said I didn't like her or her videos. I said this one thing she did was gross. I would hope if I had done something like that people who actually cared about me would tell me so I could think about it and move forward. Pointing out something that someone has done that you find distasteful is not attacking them. I don't believe in saying things to people just to make them feel better. No one grows if they aren't made aware of issues.
