    to me it was the best drama of this year because the plot was so unique and fresh and so unpredictable they always surprised me , i would be laughing my ass off and then crying like a little girl the next minute while watching it , it had everythiing a drama should have a dream cast , comedy , great plot , romance and tragedy , i loved it so much , this one along with scarlet heart are definetly my faves

    i think they were still falling in love for most of the show. I felt the love between them after they got older.

    Grim Reaper was definitely my favorite character. His character was definitely more interesting to me. I completely agree with you in this review.

    that last couple in reapers tea shop that had been separated was really touching and sad. When kim shin hooked up his friend from Goryeo and apologized for not finding him sooner.

    Rather than not having a well developed chemistry (between the main couple), I would say that it was more of 'complicated' yet 'new' kind of chemistry. So thats one of the reasons I became particularly interested and root for the main lead couple. Moreover they fell in love for each other not merely because they met and develop feelings, its more than that. Its a 'destiny' made by the God/deity. They re meant to be with each other. You must particularly see from Kim Shin's point of view. Kim Shin who is immortal already foresee his future with Euntak since Joseon era and unfortunately he met her a lil bit too early. She was still 19, when society would look them weirdly because of the age gap. So my question is, if you were Kim Shin, what would you do? To love or not to love? It was also interesting to me as it made me curious and want to see how their chemistry develop despite the age gap and if they would end up together in the end.

    If I had to express my opinion about this drama to someone I would play this video for them. Same feeling about this drama, loved the actors, production amazing!, wonderful ost, story great! But the main plot which was the main character love story needed more. I loved 1-3 and 13-16, the other ten episodes were just repetitive things between the main characters. What really saved those episodes were lee dong wook tea room scenes and their bromance. I would just add one more scene that toched my heart si deeply and made me cry when Eun Tak is by herself having a breakdown and feels really sad and depressing but she can't explain why she feels like that so and she's taking medication for that it. I just made me think how many people suffers from depression and The writers wanted to show us that.

    PLEASE PLeASE REVIEW WEIGHTLIFTING FAIRY KIM BOK JOO I LOVED IT SO MUCH IT RE-IGNITED THE SPARK I HAD FOR NOT JUST K-DRAMA BUT FOR LOVE STORIES AS A WHOLE AS well i've unofficially sworn of love stories because i can't stand their vapidity anymore and i've been listless ever since but wfkbj literally resurrected me and my faith in humanity and i am not exaggerating. i have never been more serious in my entire life

    • @Mangorrita
      @Mangorrita  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahahah I like your enthusiasm :) I actually started watching it at one point but could not get past the first episode. I didn't appreciate the acting, especially with the whole stereotype of gymnast girls bullying weightlifting girls. It was too exaggerated for me. Don't you think?

    • @ruoweilim7334
      @ruoweilim7334 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ah yes i, too, was extremely put off by the dramatization and over-emphasis of the gymnast-weightlifters rivalry it definitely got on my nerves and it was a major turnoff, but i am *so glad* i pulled through because *trust me* it gets MUCH better and the relationship/plot development was worth all the other drawbacks (the execution of the not-so-love-triangle was just. so subversive and made me so happy) :")

      The gymnast girls don't really become a main focus. I'm new to Korean drama (I know! Where have I been!?) but I really really enjoyed Weightlifting Kim Bok Joo. It's heartwarming and cute, and the main characters are adorable together. I think it will be one of my favorites for years to come!

      that's really not what the story is about at all...Lol I would suggest you actually watch a full episode or two before deciding you don't like it. There are so many deep and relatable elements to the storyline that begin to unravel.

    Even though I like and enjoyed this drama a lot, I've got to say your review was really on point. The romantic relationships were not well-developed, be it for the main or second couple. But, I still enjoyed it because their interactions were cute and their acting was stellar.

    The king loved his queen but was not brave enough to overcome the fear of her brother treasoning (so he was led to believe) against him. He was tormented by this and regretted it so he killed himself and the pain and guilt was so great that he chose to not remember it

    @Kisulimisuli1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    That drama was really strange and I didn't feel main couples chemistry so much.
    But I loved Grim Reaper. I can't even put it in words. That character was just so confused, so gentle and so sad. I cried everytime he cried and felt so so bad for him. Okay, he did big sins, but when everyone hated in one point, I was so mad. Grim Reaper had such a hard times and nobody was by his side..
    Anyways, I loved him and wanted to hug the sad face away so many times I can't even

    I kinda understand where you coming from when you say you don't see enough of the weight of their love for them to commit their life to it cuz I watched it on TH-cam with English subtitle and some of them were pretty horribly done. The way it was translated... oh~, man, you just don't get that same band of colossal feels and emotion this story plot is laden full with. Trust me, had you been able to watch it and understand it in its full Korean context, the depth & weight of emotional ride would be in the magnitude of tidal wave which is of tsunami scale.

    For me, this is the best k-drama I watched recently. I agreed your opinion for the repetitive part and the main love line. ya. This were what the drama lacked. I also nearly missed this drama because of its English translation's name but luckily I read the synopsis. I got impressed by this drama because it can brought you laughter in the first few minutes and brought you to tears in the next second just in one episode. thank you for review the drama

    '도깨비'는 한국에서 예전부터 전해져 내려오는 신화 속 주인공의 고유한 이름입니다.
    'Dokkaebi' is the unique name of the protagonist in mythology, which has dated back on ancient times in Korea.
    '도깨비'는 고블린과 전혀 다른 존재입니다. 그들 사이에는 유사성이 없다고 봐도 무방합니다.
    'Dokkaebi' is totally different from the goblins. There is no similarity between them.
    당신의 멋진 의견에 상당 부분 공감해요~^^

      Hi, I am Korean, who is a great fan of this drama(to be honest, I've Gong-yoo fan).
      'Dokkaebi' means mythical creature in ancient Korean mythology, which does not really look like a human, and carries a 'dokkaebi bat'; they can do some kinds of magic, and they are known to be mischievous and funny. However, Gong-yoo, 'Dokkaebi' in this drama, does not greatly resemble the iconic image of 'Dokkaebi' in Korea. It is just the fact that he has magical powers, and he lives on forever. It just indicates that he is a mythical being with superpowers.

      90년대 치우를 중국역사로 또 편입하고,
      소수민족 폐기후, 중화민족을 새로 창조해 가고 있습니다.

    i understand your sentiments about not having chemistry between the main couple. it is because, kim shin is holding back. he tried not to have romantic relationship with 19 yo eun tak. i personally think that when someone's love is like kim shin, (holding back his feelings) the love he had will become deeper. i understand that most of you didnt like that kind of love, because it was almost extinct nowadays. LOL. and all you want to see in a drama is the skinship and romance.

    I love the drama a lot but just like what you said it was a lot better if the Main couple did a little extend to their emotions and actions for the drama. I actually I cried in the scene when Kim Shin disappeared and when Eun Tak (don't know if it's correct) died just to sacrifice her life for the kids who supposed to die. This drama gives you lessons more in life and death. I really love the bromance of the characters. I am still in the hangover state and still rewatching it up until now. I also agree with you that it was a lot better if the romance started when she was 29 rather than 19 but it's just an opinion and I really like how Kim Shin loved Eun Tak in the drama.m

    i was ready to breakdown when i saw her cry in that scene. it just reaches into your soul and tears its apart... i also thinks she's an amazing actress, how she does cute, angry, sad, mature, so many sides so well. Also when she gets her memories back and she goes running down the street looking for him. Soul death...
    I have to agree though, some plot lines were a bit... well how did that happen? Like when she got her memories back...

  • @ratnawalisnasir6035
    @ratnawalisnasir6035 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    okay... I've got to say that most of the reviews are correct. I found it the same. the main plot and the romance between the leads which actually should be our focus was too weak. it happened also in Descendent of the sun where I could not help myself to shout " what actually the hell people think by adoring such a romanceless drama like this, I enjoyed myself only with those soldiers bromance" ( and couldn't find the actress did the good job, The flat acting by song hye khyo discredited the drama). I can't more than agree with your thought about " how in Goblin, their loves are not sufficient enough to make them sacrificing their lives to one another, except when it comes to how Euntak could only find herself home while they were together ( I can take that as an exception, it's distressed me). But somehow, I showered love and so much love to Go eun and Gong yoo for their great job, they were incredible. I was in love with their train to Busan and Cheese in trap which i can say, DAEBAK acting you two... that was why I keep crediting this drama as one of the best because of the actors, the animations, the songs, and so on and so on.. but well, we know altogether that nothing in this world are flawless. ... so keep cheering the best korean dramas which always fill our heart with love and fantasy

    Agree 100% Euntak and Kim Shin's relationship was weird when she was a teenager. I did not like the 2nd couple at all. I didn't see what they had in common beyond the fact that they were very attractive and shared a tragic past. I know this is an unpopular opinion, but that was mine. I personally felt like something was missing in Goblin and I feel like maybe that was character development.

    Finally someone who is not a huge fan of this drama. I was expecting a lot from it because of all the good reviews but then almost stopped watching it twice. It was just so boring! Just like you said, they were dragging everything (there were almost no actions) and most of the plot was based on the romance which I couldn't like because of this age difference. A school girl and a 36-old man? No, thanks. So I really liked when they finally did the time skip. Where she was 29, the chemistry got much better. The last 3 episodes also had more action and the acting was great. I liked them. As for the rest... well, could have been better. Much better.

  • @Snixx29
    @Snixx29 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    i agree with you for most the comments. Pacing was way too slow. i was skipping some parts. But Kim Sun and Wang Yeo's plot is awesome for me. I like the part where there is instant connection between them I wish they have explored more in that storyline. chemistry in both actors was great as well. but for the whole story uhh.. it was okay..

    i agree with you that their physical interactions felt weird because of the age (trust me i had a hard time too) , but over time (with all the repetitive scenes and such) i kinda liked that she was so young, she portrayed such a pure, innocent and loving character and i really really loved eun tak because of that. so, maybe they did that huge age gap thing so they can portay eun tak's personality? idk that's what i think.

    I'd like to talk about the comment you made about the weight of their love when the girl was at her 19. I think the reason you think so is because they actually didn't love each other at first. Their 'love' starts with Ji Eun-tak's blow which summons Kim Shin. That's actually the work of the magic instead of their love. Then they struggle a lot and start to love each other bit by bit. And I can totally feel how Kim Shin falls for Eun-tak. The age is honestly not the problem, it's just like loving a girl who has childish behaviour!
    And I agree that the love between them is much intense when Eun-tak is 29. The acting is different in a good way to show that.
    BTW, I'm lucky to watch it on a normal TV channel in Hong Kong so translation is not a problem to my understanding.
    Anyways, this is by far the best K-drama I've ever watched. And thanks Margarita for the review.

    hahaha, you so missed it. Cycles are the core of our nature. Looking back on and trying to relive special moments. Being trapped in the past and not being able to escape the regret(s) connected with certain moments. Through it all, perhaps you failed to recognize hope springing out of every character. I'm writing failed but that is the wrong word to use in this instance. The writing was amazing and if we had the capability to understand something the first time we experienced it in every case, then philosophy loses its lustre. Cycles...revolution...hope. Perspective is so important. That's why those close to us but outside of our entrapments offer differing perspectives to help us broaden our own vision. Be well!!

    Honestly this drama really dragged for me. There were some standout performances like from LDW, but there were also so many aggravating elements that I could just not get over. By the end, this drama was limping towards the finish. Kim Go Eun's performance was irritating. There was ZERO romantic chemistry between KGE and Gong Yoo for me.
    This was my first kdrama, and by the end I was really questioning whether I really wanted to watch another one. This series relied TOO heavily on tired tropes and sentimentality. I agree that the best moments were the scenes of people reuniting with their loved ones in the Grim Reaper's tea room. I decided to give it another go with Scarlet Heart Ryeo , which was far superior to Goblin. Talk about powerhouse performances.

    I agree with all your points. I was initially weary of the writer because I am not a fan of her works, DotS included. My wearines was dampened by the 1st episode but proven with the ending.
    Shin coming back still an immortal makes the whole premise of the main plot disconnected. The sword is no more and he comes back in his original form hence what's up with the immortality? He begs the Almighty to stay to honour the contract, not to stay an immortal so when I was watching it, I was quite confused. When it ended, what I have in my mind was, "What's the whole point?"
    10/10 for production quality and OST.
    Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable watch. What I'm sure about, it makes me fall for Gong Yoo. 😆

    Eun Tak could've blown birthday candles, had a brownout, or ignited a candle before her 29th birthday. Kim Shin wouldn't have to walk in the cold for 9 years. How come he was only summoned then? Am I missing something or is this a flaw...?

    • @hobi777
      @hobi777 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      based on the contract he signed, Eun Tak could only summon the goblin on the first day of snow, which she only did after ten years :)

    도깨비는 뭐니뭐니해도 대사 라임이죠~ 한국말 가지고 엄청난 요리를 해놓은 그 대사라임이 영어로는 전달이 안되니 그런 흥미는 더 떨어졌겠네요ㅜㅜ 아쉽다.
    I think 도깨비's best point is a lot of wordplay of dialogue. It makes common and boring part and scene funny. :( So I'm so sorry that many foreigners who don't know Korean in comparison with native can't feel those things.
    And I feel sorry to you because of my lack of English skills.

      haha i was trying to get my Korean partner to explain it to me because I thought the same thing, "Goblin" is just not a great word for this show, but apparently in Korean folklore Dokkaebi's look pretty much like a goblin/troll but more mischievous and with more powers (bringing fortune, gold, etc).

      Doesn't the show have two names?
      Because on the tvn utube channel its titled
      Guardian the lonely and great god
      I just thought they changed it to goblin to make it shorter

  • @kevingineman3745

    To translate dokebi to goblin is right. No translation matches exactly one by one. Even the Dokebi played by Gongyu doesn't match with the traditional Dokebi. Traditional Dokebi has red or blue skin and big spiked club. It's pretty similar to goblin. To describe him, Guisin(Ghost) is more correct. and those morons will argue how ghost is not right to translate Guisin. lol

    I'm bilingual(kor/eng)and I agree with you a lot. just except that I enjoyed the chemistry btw the main couple a lot haha. maybe I'm unrealistic that's why haha. I wanna see you in korea either as an actor,singer, etc. By the way, do u mind if I translate your words and upload this video somewhere else? Because I think it's worth attention as an objective point of view of this drama as you're a non-korean. Anyways I enjoyed this video! 새해 복 많이받으세요 ~ ^^
