You have to remember they had only debuted a few years before and were the famous boys we know now and took a huge risk doing this video and if you want a deeper dive I’d recommend the Italian Army explanation. You will be bawling and is beautifully done.
Agreed. Heres the link with subtitles th-cam.com/video/FrT4a_Fw6pE/w-d-xo.html It gives more background info for better understanding and i would recommend this video instead of the one in thr video. Just my personal opinion.
Thankyou for taking the time to react to this. I am a 60 year old Aussie mum. I happened to be in Korea with my daughter when this happened and it was heartbreaking to see at the time. I found myself there again 2 years later and I have such a vivid memory of seeing the parents of the lost children protesting in the streets, seeking answers - 2 years after the tragedy! I remember standing on the side of the road watching parents walking in the rain holding pictures of the deceased children, begging for answers. I cried so much that day and everytime I hear this song or watch the video, the scene replays in my mind. I hope you can understand why this song has remained in the charts in Korea since the day it was released. It is a song with such a powerful message, delivered in a beautiful way. It’s worthy to note that when BTS released this song, they were not the mega stars they are now - they took a huge risk recording this - it could have literally been the end of their careers. The fact that they felt so strongly about it to risk their own careers just further points to how amazingly aware they are. Things like this is the reason I have proudly been ARMY since they debuted in 2013 and I will go to my grave with that same conviction.
The Italian ARMY explanation was even more accurate and incredible than this... I know u cannot react to that now, but I'm glad you at least saw this one 💜 Ps: in the laundry scene, the clock signs the exact time the Sewol Ferry started sinking... 😥 BTS really needed to do this in a settle way cause the governament (before having the impeachment and fall) right after the tragedy, was blacklisting every artist (movie producers, singers, Rappers, actors, etc) if someone was showing support to this cause or to the families of the victims... In Fact BTS every now and then donated in private to the association supporting the families of the tragedy... They needed to do it in secret!
As the Italian Army explanation points out, it is more complete, it allows a better understanding of the video due to the many signals it has. As you point out, they and their CEO donated money but for some years it was secret, after the President's removal, the information was leaked. Last year a reporter interviewed some of the parents of the boys who passed away, they revealed that before the end of 2014 the members of BTS and the CEO of the company visited them and kept them company. BTS was a group that was just beginning, with many obstacles along the way, the oldest of them was barely 21 years old and they took risks despite the "persecution" that the government of then did against artists who demonstrated in the case of the ferry
I'd really recommend watching Stephanie Soo AKA Rotten Mango's video on the Sewol Ferry tragedy. She did a lot of research and goes really in depth about the events before, during and after the tragedy from different points of views.
The laundry scene really gets me because the washer windows look like windows on the ships and the camera sways like if it's on the water. Such a sad and beautiful video.
when i first watched BTS perform Spring Day on their NPR Tiny Desk Concert, i was so moved by how beautiful the song was and wanted to learn about the translated lyrics. when i found out it was about the Sewol ferry tragedy, i looked up the videos/news relating to it, stumbling across a video that a devastated father had shared of his very vibrant, energetic teenage son's final recording addressing his family while in a cabin within the ferry with his classmates (who were also filmed as the ferry began to tilt with water seeping into the halls and cabins milling about looking for life vests), deeply frightened, as he was coming to a panicked realization that he was going to die. this teenage boy - who seemed like a whip-smart, stylish, outspoken, handsome and capable young jock - anxiously documented everything around him, describing how his teachers (who were also among those who lost their lives) were trying their best to keep everyone calm, reminding them to listen to the captain's orders (the cowardly captain who later caused the deaths of 304 people - 250 of which were students). this same teenage boy asked his classmates if they wanted to record any last words... some appeared to be in disbelief, continuing to trust that they would be saved, others sat quietly frightened, trying to reach their families on cell phones with poor reception, if any at all (many of those cell phones were recovered at the bottom of the ocean throughout the course of the weeks following the tragedy). it was heart-crushing to watch the teenage boy's video, but if his father wanted us to watch what his son and his son's classmates had endured in their final moments of life so not to forget him/them, then it felt like an obligation not to look away (bawling my eyes out for sure). the only ones who survived were the ones who chose not to listen to the captain/crew, who were telling passengers to stay where they were. as to the yellow ribbons, if you look up pictures from the weeks and months following the Sewol tragedy, you'll see that thousands of people visiting the site attached yellow ribbons nearby, initially as a sign of hope for the return of the missing, mourning, sympathy - before becoming symbolic of a movement, with nationwide protests often lead by the victims families, in defiance of the gov, questioning its competency (the president, who was later impeached). as i tried to absorb what had occurred, it was then that i became aware of the extent it's ingrained into the culture that children be dutiful and unconditionally abide by their elders...albeit, in this instance, that trust was completely taken advantage of, unnecessarily. BTS members are a very respectful group of guys, rooted in their culture, but they're unafraid to find ways to inspire youth to speak their truth, to courageously "love yourself" in the face of suppression or attacks from haters/detractors. and at a time when Korean artists were discouraged from directly addressing the Sewol tragedy, BTS found a way, thru symbolism in their mv, to honor the students who lost their lives on that tragic spring day. Spring Day is consistently chosen as among a top favorite BTS song. on another note, watching your very kind reaction along with the Spring Day explanation video (it's been a while since i watched it last), it dawned on me that BTS used the washing machines/dryers messaging in Spring Day for their Permission To Dance mv (meant to uplift those suffering thru the pandemic, in hope for a better days to come, when we all may be free of masks/the pandemic), where the purple balloons signify the ARMY fan base, but also seems to subtly acknowledge the effects of lives lost due to the pandemic as well.
This is perfectly written. Thank you. I watched that recording too, it was hard to watch, but I felt that out of respect I needed to watch the whole thing.
I have to comment here, for me (and I think a lot of us who are older fans), Spring Day was the song that cemented our love and support for these guys. I am in my 40s and I have gone through a lot in life. To find a group of young artists who, not only entertains you, but teaches you the values of loving yourself, loving your friends and family, thinking and acting POSITIVELY, is a breath of fresh air. I first saw them in the entertainment news in 2017 when they, seemingly out of nowhere, won their first Billboard Music Awards for Best Social Artist. I started watching their MVs and listening to songs like Not Today, Dope and Fire - all catchy tunes with affirming messages, just blew me away. Let's just say, I needed to hear them at the time. Then I heard Spring Day. That's it, I was committed. Never thought I'd be here. I remember the Sewol tragedy as it was in the news then. If you google it, there are plenty of news articles and documentations of it. It was horrific. I also remember reading years after that people who tried to raise their voices against the government for their extremely poor handling (not to mention gagging a lot of people from speaking out) were jailed/sanctioned. Their then President was voted out 2 years after that partly because of her government's response to it (there were also corruption, incompetency etc. which kinda all related, IMO).
Wow! I remember about this tragedy and how poorly the rescue attempt was done. I have no idea about the suppression though. BTS just earned my respect and a follower for bringing awareness of this to the world. Thanks for doing this reaction, Cliff.🙏❤️
When I came across this song, I was a crying mess, even if the only Korean words I understand in the lyrics were “I miss you” (if translated in english). I thought theres something in this song that pierces through. Then I googled translate the lyrics and that explains it. I lost my child (though not because of the same tragedy) when he was only 2 months old after I gave birth. A lot of people, even friends are saying that one day I’ll forget about him, so no need to be sad and just cheer up. That was the most painful word I have ever heard. That scene in the dryer really touched me. You can never forget… And you will never forget because they are a part of you. A piece of you. I am missing him everyday… and though the pain has lessened, still remembering that day I lost him (while in my arms) hits me. He is in heaven now, and I know he is the happiest. And that thought makes me go on. So please, if you have experienced loss. Dont ever forger them. There may be far away now but they are in our hearts…. A L W A Y S.
Thank you for reacting to the explanation vid - Spring Day is considered the queen -- it came out in 2017 and it is still in the charts-- BTS was really brave to write this song - it was only recently confirmed that Spring Day was written to commemorate the tragedy-- the sewol tragedy happened in 2014 and any artists in S. Korea who commented abt the tragedy then faced being black listed by the govt --- and they were just starting out - i saw somehwere the director of snowpiercer was one of the artists in the list of blacklisted artists by the govt -- the president then had since been taken from office, was arrested and is in jail, same with the captain of the Sewol Ferry --- the whole tragedy haunted me and it was horrible watching the agonizing cries of the parents who lost their children unexpectedly and they could have been saved if not for the negligence of the govt and coast guard --- Big hit and BTS donated to the families of the victims -- i really appreciate your reaction - 🙏💜👍
The Sewol documentary is emotional to watch. I recommend it though for anyone wanting to know what happened. It didn't have to happen the way it did. The grief of parents and survivors is hard to witness. I think its why I cant make it through this song with out crying. I'm glad you're here 🤗 Borahae 💜
Wow! Such a sad tragedy. I didn't know about this either. I am so sorry. They are amazing young men. Good for them. We need more people around the globe to speak out and speak up for the injustices. Deep pockets in all countries, kill....
I don’t stay angry at a lot of things or hold lifelong grudges often, but no matter how many times I hear about the sewol tragedy, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sadness for the victims and survivors and an overwhelming anger for the captain, crew, an how it was handled.
BTS are not idols or Gods to me and many ARMYs, as someone can think. They think "these crazy fans are worshiping BTS and they lost their minds." To me they are decent people who do their best to be their best selves and use the spotlight they are in to be an example and spread positivity and love. They make ARMY want to be better people and work harder, spread positivity and maintain mental health. I don't see any reasons for them to get hate but yet they do get it. This is the reason ARMY is overprotective sometimes and the reason why ARMY supports them with streams, album sales and so on at best of their ability. These are the people we need but barely deserve to be leaders of generation and nowadays pop icons
True.. and haters had the audacity calling ARMY bunch of screaming teenagers and BTS music as shallow. If only they knew why ARMY love BTS dearly.. if only they could look at the boys beyond prejudice, they would regret on missing the opportunity to be part of the most iconic group and fandom of all time.
Thank y'all for so understanding 💗 As an Army, my friends and many often shut me down whenever I tried to talk abt them n I really felt bad when they talk bad abt them without even knowing them but m glad that there are some ppl like u, who actually uses their heart n go deep 💜💜💜
@@lavniyarana3796 I had the same thing with my husband. When I discovered BTS I was blown away and wanted to share but each time I was talking it was like I am annoying him. He does not like to know more than a music about artists he listens too. But in the end he came to understand why they are so important to me. Because their music helped me to move on from a really dark place. I think people who do not want to understand the depth to this group, fandom and their music do not deserve BTS. Maybe they will grow to deserve them 💜
@@pishop.ot7692 I hope my friends will also grow up some day bcz I always felt being alone even after being surrounded by many. BTS helped me a lot to move on from many dark n hurtful things so their existence means a lot to me n they r still helping me but sadly my friends didn't see this 😖😖 Each time BTS brings me one step further, many ppl (who don't like them) brings me back many steps but still fighting cz I got the fighters by my side n millions of purple butterflies with me 💜💜💜
This is what made me a fan, it showed their souls. I saw them on Tiny Desk and when they sang it, you could tell there was a story there, I watched this video then and pretty much cried all the way through it.
In my opinion the laundry scene also represents the event happening. When the washing machine spins, the movement represents the ship capsizing and, the image of Jin looking through it represents one of the victims looking out the window as the ship sinks.
All of which was expressed exactly in the Italian Army's explanation video, which was much more thorough, accurate, and insightful than this one (and this video is already excellent!)
The world needs more people like you. I love you're willing to reach out to those in need. Our boys are pretty much like you, that's why we love them. Please stay like this, the more the merrier, you know 💜💜 Loved all your reactions, you're kind and respectful. And very open minded. Thanks.
The movie, Snowpiercer director is the same director who won the last year Academy award movie, Parasite. Many of BTS mvs carry very deep meanings and symbolisms that often times watching explanation videos is very helpful.
Loved your reaction. After seeing the videos filmed by the students as the ferry sank, and how they were banging on windows trapped inside, there isn't a single time I watch the music video without crying. This song will forever be one of the most memorable pieces of art I've ever come across.
This song really hits everyone at their core.. Thank you for you reaction and now you know why ARMY's respect BTS so much and why this song is our queen and why it's still on korean charts. It's a beautiful song with a beautiful message 💜💜
i cant ever hear this without crying. I miss my friend Marika so much. She died age 16. I was 18. We were in same car,not as driver. Going to our friends place to having lovely evening . And she was sitting next to me. We laught a lot, memorised thind we made, she told me how she loves me, some things planned to do ..and suddently we hit with truck and pam two off my friends died. I survived and all what Im thinking still after 20 years , why i survived not her. Pain is here, allways. It feels like its lighter but no its not ever go away. And I feel guilty even I didnt do anything wrong. So this song, and all those poor teens. Im so sorry for them. Strength to them and to the families, friends etc. Love Ya
Thank you for letting me see this I knew there was hidden messages to because I love army I love BTS but from what you show me just now I need you and my eyes are wide open towards certain things and thank you again for letting me see this you’re a great host those boys deserve everything that’s coming to them💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
I hope you will watch the video done by Italian army about "what you still don't know about spring day and the sewol tragedy". I personally think it is a more thorough, factual, and accurate explanation. There are several points in the bulletproof Vibes interpretation of specific scenes that I really disagree with. I think the Italian army's understanding of some of the scenes is better. Italian army video also gives a lot of in depth information about the tragedy itself.
They didn't explain this, but SUGA wrote his lyrics thinking about his friend who was drug addict. He wrote about same person in his song Dear my friend
Yesss, after I saw this explained video I knew I'd be a BTS Army for life. Love to see you share the same sentiment. BTS is beyond special. They are what the WORLD needs. 💜
the Queen! BTS social messages in their songs are powerful. 💜thank you for checking out the explanation. theres another explanation video which delves into it in more details but its so saddening to watch. just want to warn you.
Even though you’ve watched this one, I do recommend also watching the explained by Italian Army. It explains the disaster and aftermath more, as well as more thoroughly examining the symbolism in the MV, in particular the carousel (You Never Walk Alone is significant), the laundry scene, and the shoes. Also note the sonar ping in the opening of the song, and the way the train scenes with RM have an underwater look. I respect these young men beyond words, and the artistic team they work with are worthy of them.
At the time of the tragedy, any artist who spoke out about this was blacklisted. Many other artists also creatively dedicated songs/performances to the victims. In one clip where JK is standing in front of the carousel, if you compare pictures of the color of the ship after age has eaten the paint and rust, it looks almost the same, as if the carousel had been in the sea. At the beginning the sound V hears isn't a train sounding but a ships horn. Italian Army's video goes into even more detail but she talks super fast and so pausing for the subtitles is a must. Thank you for reacting to this.
It is a complex mv, beside the tribute to the victims and the survivers, the social political commentary, its also the artistry, the education to put in all those artistic references. Well done Bts and Big Hit Entertainment
There's another explanation video if you want to check out by your own it's an Italian explanation it is deeper, more complete, after watching that explanation you'll be amazed for all the incredible accurate details of Spring Day video, it has English subtitles. 💜
The Italian Army have an explanation video that explains more about the government mistakes and magnitude of the disaster. A couple of things, when RM close their eyes and bow their heads represents the moment of the children’s deaths. In the laundry room Jin is in the middle of the the washer circle as if he is looking out. This is what the children did crying for help looking out the windows for help that never came.
Thank you so much for posting this video - it really gives a deeper perspective on who BTS are and I learned some new information. I could see you struggling with your emotions. Its a terrible story but so beautifully delivered by the boys. Thank you again - subscribed! 💜
Please express your thoughts because 1 - you may be right & surprise yourself, 2 - it may be a different point of view for someone. ARMY usually clears up any doubts there are 🙂 Tyvm for viewing this explained video. There are a few vids of this kind for some of BTS' tracks. We'll let you know when you react to these songs. 💜 Tyvm for putting out positive vibes into the world too. It's very much needed.
Thank you for taking time to rea search this song, as others mentioned there is another one out out by Italian Army( I believe) That one has more actual info on the Tragedy and is extremely heartbreaking but so needed to truely begin to understand where BTS is coming from. I appreciate your respectfulness and humility as you begin this BTS journey. I hope you continue on to learn more about all the meanings behind so many of their songs. There’s tons of content to cover. Keep it up. They do a great little medley of their older and new stuff from their birthday celebration they had in June( 8 years). That might be another good one for you to watch!
Every time I watch this explanation video I can't help but cry. Thank you so much for looking deeper into this song. It really is so special, not only to BTS and ARMY but also the entire South Korea who are still fighting today for justice about the sinking incident. BTS almost got blacklisted for speaking up and supporting the families of the tragedy that they even secreted donated money to help them. If the government caught them I don't know what would have happened to BTS's career, our guys are truly rare gems who just want to stand up for justice and give hope to people without a voice.
I fell in deep watching Blood Sweat & Tears + the explanation video. However, it was when I watched Spring Day and this explanation video and the one by Italian Army that I knew BTS is unlike any artist I could think of. There's SOO much hidden inside their music but it's hard for outsiders to understand it - if you don't know, you don't know. I'm glad you took the time to watch this! I hope you'll watch the one by Italian Army too, because the layers of details it has will blow your mind. Though, it a very tough watch so please watch it early in the day or when you can get a hug or call someone after if you need it
4 years in and I still cry. I cried throughout this video. Recently I watched a documentary around the surviving rescuers/divers. Many took their lives because they could not deal with what they witnessed and the survivors' guilt. It is important to note that Koreans did not take it lying down, hence the disembarkment from the train. The President was imprisoned for her suppressing the truth and other crimes. The Snowpirecer director is the Oscar-winning movie director of Parasite. Legends all-round, relaying difficult but universal messages. Glad you found BTS and getting to know them at a cellular level
Cliff Beats, check out the moment between 4:04 and 4:05 on the original mv, specifically the top of the frame above Suga, RM and Jimin’s heads. There is a mirror reflection that makes them look like they are all underwater. Gave me chills when I first noticed because the gang already looked like ghosts coming for a visit. But it could be that they needed to add more to the top and sides (also mirrored) of the original frames to allow for greater camera zoom out.
Hi From Paris Cliff ! You’re a beautiful man. I love how you’re expressing your emotions. Yes we all are of the unique human race wherever destiny make us live. And BTS is the group of this century !
When V sings your my bestfriend in the video, he is speaking about a true friend who committed sucide, it was a thing among idols, who could not take it no longer, BTS did not swear the song was for the Sewol Ferry Trauma, but it fits. for years the song is #1 in Korea.
The director/writer, Bong Joon Ho, also directed & wrote "Parasite " which won the Oscar last year. First foreign language film to win THE BEST MOVIE award... he also did "The Host" which is a South Korean horror film that has garnered many awards, as well as "Okja" which also won many awards.
Also if you look into it further the diver who went in against the government to bring up the bodies of those kids, he ended up committing suicide later, its very interesting, every facet of this .
Same here... I search about Sewol Fery Tragedy after watching Spring Day Explanation and I crying hard watching the clips of the news and the clips of video made by the victims saying goodbye to their parents and how they're terified feeling the ship tillted.
In case you didn't know this is not the fist time BTS has "spoken" out against something going on. Their early songs spoke out against the unreasonable expectations adults have for students. (No more dream, N.O.) They talk about materialism/consumerism. (Spine Breaker) There are so many more. BTS is willing to talk about things that most people, especially those in the spot light, shy away from. (Loneliness, mental health, status and privilege, and many more) I stan them for life. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
I would also add Am I Wrong to this. They risked getting blacklisted because of performing that song and the choreo to speak out against the (now removed) administration at the time. 💜
Thanks for your deep heartful reaction, appreciate it. BTS is unbelievably good at live show, even better than MV. Strongly recommed to react any award show of BTS at MAMA and MMA. Especially 2019 MMA live. That is the best live ever, i bet.
This song became so beloved by the Korean gp that it has never left the charts since 2017! It's the longest running song in the history of the K-charts. RM wrote this song while sitting in a park thinking about how those must be missing friends. The band took a lot of risks to basically call out the gorvernment on the handling of this incident. This song is BTS. Peace.
I've seen this MV a lot of times and I still got goosebumps every time. Thanks for reacting to BTS. This was a controversial BTS song and a brave song by BTS as well. This song is something that can be passed on to generations after generations. It's not just a beautiful song but it also has a strong message. This song has been in the Korean hit chart up to now since it's released and never goes out and every spring it just goes up. IN the Dear Class 2020 they sang this song in honor to the graduates. It was believed that if not for the tragedy it was their graduation last 2020. BTS are using their platform to raise awareness about injustices, social issues, mental health, about problematic systems and a lot more through their music. It may look fun but if you get know the translations and meaning of their songs you will be amazed how brilliant their minds are and the fact that they are hands-on when it comes to their music. I salute BTS for being able to express and tell their story. It has served it's purpose. So proud of these brave, courageous and genius Bangtan Boys. The. Dryers represent ship portals and notice how they turn sideways like when the ship was sinking I thought too. I also looked up the incident and watched the explanations too and it makes you cry what happened to those kids
Please also react to the ItalianArmy explained too. It goes much deeper into both the tragedy and the symbolism shown in the video. It also covers the social aspects and aftermath of what happened. Italian Army actually travelled to Korea and met with the victims families whilst she was there. She has been praised for her documentary and appeared on Korean TV for an interview.
I think it’s a turning point for fans to realize what a piece of art Spring Day is. For a deeper dive into both the video the actual tragedy and the politics watch ItalianArmy who deeply dives into the timeline (this is much harder and 3x as long as the one you watched which is a good short version it includes things like footage of the parents begging for help etc absolutely one of the best TH-cam documentary pieces I’ve seen but very very emotional). It’s hard because hundreds died and it was so deeply preventable and they even black listed artists who mentioned it so BTS has always been cautious about talking or directly admitting connections but this video was only about 2/3 of the sewel references there are many more throughout the video. The politics are global and the media was also responsible for the coverup. Years later protests over this and the president led to her resignation and imprisonment. Fighting corruption is necessary. Keep in mind kpop idols almost never get political but BTS does and did. It’s why we do often will recommend an explanation video after some songs or mvs because there is so much they put in. Beapsae sounds catchy and the choreography is … ahem… a lot of crowd pleasing of hip thrusts (it’s a fan favorite) but it’s one of the social commentary songs … well also it’s a bop. Anyhow it’s a painful joy to see tractors learn the truth about Spring Day etc.
Thank you for watching the explanation videos. I really recommend them if they are available. So many reactors miss so much because they don't take the time to go just a little bit deeper. They always wonder why BTS has such a dedicated ARMY. You just watched one of the reasons why and this just one point of view. Thanks also for sharing your thoughts. I am subscribing because I am hoping you will do this more often. 💜
By the way, if you are interested in seeing a little documentary on the Sewol Ferry Tragedy, The New Yorker did one here: th-cam.com/video/5_A8dq2fA5o/w-d-xo.html
Loving your reactions! Since u said u like the songs that have deeper meaning and stories beneath stories, I think you might find some of their older videos interesting. They have a big storyline going on where each of their music videos connect with one another. I would highly recommend that you watch them in order as placed below: - I NEED U (Original ver.) - HYYH ON STAGE: PROLOGUE - RUN - EPILOGUE: YOUNG FOREVER - SHORT FILM #1 BEGIN - SHORT FILM #2 LIE - SHORT FILM #3 STIGMA - SHORT FILM #4 FIRST LOVE - SHORT FILM #5 REFLECTION - SHORT FILM #6 MAMA - SHORT FILM #7 AWAKE - BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS - BLOOD SWEAT ANF TEARS (JAPANESE VER.) - HIGHLIGHT REEL - EUPHORIA: THEME OF LY WONDER - FAKE LOVE TEASER - FAKE LOVE - FAKE LOVE (EXTENDED VER.) - BTS Universe Story Official Trailer
recommend watching the Italian army explanation vid for spring day, it goes into far more detail about the tragedy itself and the political ramifications of the vid
Enjoyed your reaction!!! Just curious are you going to react to the explanation video by Italian army? You don’t have to, I honestly was just curious. (I would love to see your reaction though. It shows some important footage and even more depth analysis of the MV with the tragedy) Edit: I wanted to mention when BTS made this song they weren’t as big as they are now. I heard during this time people who spoke out agains the government (artists, workers, citizens, etc.) where blacklisted. So BTS had to be very careful with the message.
Over 300 high school students died in the Sewol Ferry tragedy due to the negligence of the captain. He ordered his crew and himself off the ship and not the children who waited for help that never came. Little did they know they where left to die and they did.
Thank you for your thoughtful reaction. After this MV came out the then Korean president Park Geun-hye blacklisted BTS. Later she was removed from office for corruption and is serving a 25 year sentence. BTS isn't afraid to take risks. Social, mental health, are issues included in their discography.
Bong Joon Ho is a Korean director, who actually awarded as best director in Academy Award/Oscar 2020. His movie "Parasite" was also awarded as best picture in the same year. He also directed Snowpiercer.
Now that you have absorbed the MV and this background video, there are 2 other performances worth watching... they have done many live dance performances that are so good (I like the MNET one best); there are also some love vocal performances also, like the one on their Tiny Desk Concert..... each one just builds on the impact the song has made.... worth the watch.
I hope you could react to the ITALIAN ARMY version eben in your own time because it was more indepth and much more informative regarding the tragedy. It would give you a better perspective as to why this song has made a big impact in south korean people.
Hi Cliff, thanks for a very heart-felt touching reaction. I appreciate the respect you showed to not only #BTS but also the #sewolferrysurvivors. This tragedy cut through the Korean populace like a knife though #butter. ‘#Spring Day’ is from BTSs 2017 album ‘#YouNeverWalkAlone’, a repackage of their second Korean-language studio album, ‘#Wings; (2016). The track has been charting in the ‘Top 50’ section for 5 consecutive years in Gaon’s Digital Charts. ‘Spring Day’ also charted at no. 44 in ‘2021 Gaon Year-End Digital Chart’ for five consecutive years. The song also proved its popularity by being dubbed the most-streamed song of all time in MelOn’s history! #BTS #BTSARMY #SpringDay #sewolferrysurvivors #BORAHAE I Purple You 💜
This explanation is pretty good but there are many more hints and details behind it all. If you are feeling okay about it I would highly recommend you to watch the one by the Italian ARMY explanation video. The research and details that went into that one is like a documentary. It's amazing and heartbreaking to see all those details but I also highly recommend it!
This is my favorite Song of all of BTS's songs.. I just can't often listen to it becuse i start to sob aloud. We call it our Queen (song). Originally RM wrote the song for lost friends from the industry.. Maybe you know somethig About the Dark Side of K-pop.. Worst parts of it are meat grinder that uses artists and then leaves them without anything.. There is Many young, hugely talented artists who have took their own lives because of unhealthy practices of the industry.. BTS and their Company Big Hit are fighting those practises to their last breath.. Then Big Hit asked from the Sewol tragedy survivors and the victim's families if they could bring in also the Tragedy for the MV and they got permission immortalising the tragedy in this way .. The People of Korea have not forgotten the honoring that BTS did. And so the Queen has not left the Korean top list since it was released (hopefully this stil stands).. February 13, 2017. I saw one documentary about it where they said that, when BTS relased the song and this MV it was a higly risky move, as Many of the people Who were still part of the whole corruption wayt up to the top (President was sent to prison!) Were still around and had inmense amount of power. Because of this MV they could have wiped BTS off the map.. But it was one of their most popular songs until then, and it always be in our hearts.
Actually spring day was a really risky move from them at the time, government was blacklisting artist who were openly talking about the ferry accident. Spring day is really REALLY deep in meaning and references, now you know why BTS Spring Day has never left the Korean charts.btw I'm new subs here in case you do more for BTS ;) love your reaction...
I think it would be great if you did a reaction to their cover for I'll be missing you on BBC Radio 1. It is a very good cover and song matches the mood of Spring day. They also performed Dynamite and Permission to dance there. You may want to check that too
I went on a deep dive to learn everything about the Sewol Ferry Tragey, and it's truly heart breaking. I even had nightmares for a few days about being trapped on a sinking vessel. For me it was just a nightmare, I seriously can't fathom what those kids went through.
You have to remember they had only debuted a few years before and were the famous boys we know now and took a huge risk doing this video and if you want a deeper dive I’d recommend the Italian Army explanation. You will be bawling and is beautifully done.
Agreed. Heres the link with subtitles th-cam.com/video/FrT4a_Fw6pE/w-d-xo.html
It gives more background info for better understanding and i would recommend this video instead of the one in thr video. Just my personal opinion.
I totally agree! Check out this video from an Italian ARMY! Thanks for sharing. Good ARMY work!
The Italian explanation had me😭😭 Especially hearing the people wailing and screaming for justice and for the government to take action💔💔💔
Yes, please react to this video, it's so well done
Now you know why Army calls this the Queen of BTS songs. It was on the charts for at least 4 years. It very meaningful for all Koreans.
This song has a special place in hearts of ARMYs and BTS
Still in the top 50 Gaon Chart as at today!!💜
I know u cannot react to that now, but I'm glad you at least saw this one 💜
Ps: in the laundry scene, the clock signs the exact time the Sewol Ferry started sinking... 😥
BTS really needed to do this in a settle way cause the governament (before having the impeachment and fall) right after the tragedy, was blacklisting every artist (movie producers, singers, Rappers, actors, etc) if someone was showing support to this cause or to the families of the victims... In Fact BTS every now and then donated in private to the association supporting the families of the tragedy... They needed to do it in secret!
th-cam.com/video/FrT4a_Fw6pE/w-d-xo.html
Yes they had actual footage of the event and it was explained in detail
Oh, jeez, that explanation DESTROYED me! I don't know if I've ever cried so much in my life.
💜
I watched the whole documentary and broke my heart into pieces. 🤧🤧😭😭😭
Same here. I only watched a documentary one time and I cried so hard watching the video clips at the ship. I can't ever watch it again!
What's the name of documentary?
@@pishop.ot7692 “In the Absence”
@@echo6159 thank you!
@@houseofalex I agree with you. These people see the surface but do not see the depth
Thank y'all for so understanding 💗
As an Army, my friends and many often shut me down whenever I tried to talk abt them n I really felt bad when they talk bad abt them without even knowing them but m glad that there are some ppl like u, who actually uses their heart n go deep 💜💜💜
BTS helped me a lot to move on from many dark n hurtful things so their existence means a lot to me n they r still helping me but sadly my friends didn't see this 😖😖
Each time BTS brings me one step further, many ppl (who don't like them) brings me back many steps but still fighting cz I got the fighters by my side n millions of purple butterflies with me 💜💜💜
This is what made me a fan, it showed their souls.
I agree 💯
They didn't explain this, but SUGA wrote his lyrics thinking about his friend who was drug addict. He wrote about same person in his song Dear my friend
My baby yoongi I love him so much my dear friend and first love are two my favorite songs from him
Hes a good friend. I would have dropped them.
Yesss, after I saw this explained video I knew I'd be a BTS Army for life. Love to see you share the same sentiment. BTS is beyond special. They are what the WORLD needs. 💜
that's the reason why it's the queen spring day
the Queen! BTS social messages in their songs are powerful. 💜thank you for checking out the explanation. theres another explanation video which delves into it in more details but its so saddening to watch. just want to warn you.
We all bawl at this explanation video. You're good my dude.
Bong Joon-ho, the director of Snowpiercer, was also the winner of the 2019 Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Picture, Parasite.
Thank you for reacting to this. I felt your sincerity. Your reactions are so heartfelt.
ARMY usually clears up any doubts there are 🙂
Tyvm for viewing this explained video. There are a few vids of this kind for some of BTS' tracks. We'll let you know when you react to these songs. 💜
Tyvm for putting out positive vibes into the world too. It's very much needed.
Can we appreciate this video cause it's more than 20mins 🎗💜✨
#봄날 리액션 고맙습니다. 🙏💜
Every time I listen to this song I cry hard! Bts are so deep , brave and amazing. Ciao from Italy
Thank you for taking time to rea search this song, as others mentioned there is another one out out by Italian Army( I believe)
That one has more actual info on the Tragedy and is extremely heartbreaking but so needed to truely begin to understand where BTS is coming from.
That might be another good one for you to watch!
very thoughtful reaction!
Though, it a very tough watch so please watch it early in the day or when you can get a hug or call someone after if you need it
this vid always makes me cry. but I wanna see it again and again cuz I don't wanna forget that tragedy. thx for this vid
And BTS is the group of this century !
i am crying for over 20 minutes, even though this is not the first time seeing it, it still drains my emotions 😭💜
When V sings your my bestfriend in the video, he is speaking about a true friend who committed sucide, it was a thing among idols, who could not take it no longer, BTS did not swear the song was for the Sewol Ferry Trauma, but it fits. for years the song is #1 in Korea.
This stories I’m crying we love You BTS 😭😭😭😭💜💜💜
The director/writer, Bong Joon Ho, also directed & wrote "Parasite " which won the Oscar last year. First foreign language film to win THE BEST MOVIE award... he also did "The Host" which is a South Korean horror film that has garnered many awards, as well as "Okja" which also won many awards.
I have a chill everytime i watch this video.. This video really makes me an ARMY becoz of the respect i have for them..
(Sorry for my bad english)
Thanks for this reaction❗ more power to your channel❗🙂
Also if you look into it further the diver who went in against the government to bring up the bodies of those kids, he ended up committing suicide later, its very interesting, every facet of this .
Such a tragedy... I felt so bad when I heard that he committed suicide. Yet, those who were responsible lives... it really sucks!
Yeah I saw the documentary. He was traumatized; he kept hearing the crying voices of the drowned students. 😢
(No more dream, N.O.)
They talk about materialism/consumerism. (Spine Breaker)
There are so many more. BTS is willing to talk about things that most people, especially those in the spot light, shy away from. (Loneliness, mental health, status and privilege, and many more)
I stan them for life.
Peace.
Thanks you so very much for watching the explanation of the Song. I loved how it touched your heart (as it does mine) every time I watch this video.
It is hard for me to not cry when I hear this song.
You may also want to react to their song NO and Bapsae where they are talking there about the system and injustices. pls check on the links below.

The. Dryers represent ship portals and notice how they turn sideways like when the ship was sinking I thought too. I also looked up the incident and watched the explanations too and it makes you cry what happened to those kids
Watching them banging on windows trapped inside will forever haunt me.
You really have a good heart, sir. Thank you for watching this.
You should read “The Little Match Girl” it’s so sad, but it’s also good
Spring Day is the Queen of BTS song, thank you for uploading BTS video.
Thank you for seeking the MV's explanation / theory. It's much meaningful , right? BTS's songs always have deep meaning and message.

Director Bong Joon Ho also directed the 2019 Oscar Parasite which won Best Picture and Best Director.
recommend watching the Italian army explanation vid for spring day, it goes into far more detail about the tragedy itself and the political ramifications of the vid
BTS is indeed amazing ambassador’s for youth.
This one didn't go too deep but still u were affected by the meaning and tragedy. Respect man.
Enjoyed your reaction!!!
Just curious are you going to react to the explanation video by Italian army? You don’t have to, I honestly was just curious. (I would love to see your reaction though. It shows some important footage and even more depth analysis of the MV with the tragedy)
Edit: I wanted to mention when BTS made this song they weren’t as big as they are now. I heard during this time people who spoke out agains the government (artists, workers, citizens, etc.) where blacklisted. So BTS had to be very careful with the message.
I loved this video ❤️ xx
This made me cry.... again
Loved ur reaction and don’t worry u pronounced all their names correctly
There is a very indepth and informative mv made by an Italian Army. It would be good to check that one out. She was thorough.
Knowledge is power 👍
Now that you have absorbed the MV and this background video, there are 2 other performances worth watching... they have done many live dance performances that are so good (I like the MNET one best); there are also some love vocal performances also, like the one on their Tiny Desk Concert..... each one just builds on the impact the song has made.... worth the watch.
I'm glad you watched this. There is a lot more info on this tragedy. Very sad.
BTS came out in early 2021 and said the song was indeed about the Sewol Ferry Tragedy.
You’ll Never Walk Alone is the main ballad from the musical Carousel…hence the placement…
Also Go Sox
I hope you could react to the ITALIAN ARMY version eben in your own time because it was more indepth and much more informative regarding the tragedy. It would give you a better perspective as to why this song has made a big impact in south korean people.
Thank you.... ❤
#BTS #BTSARMY #SpringDay #sewolferrysurvivors #BORAHAE I Purple You 💜
Thank you
No thank you for watching with me and accepting me 🙏
This explanation is pretty good but there are many more hints and details behind it all. If you are feeling okay about it I would highly recommend you to watch the one by the Italian ARMY explanation video. The research and details that went into that one is like a documentary. It's amazing and heartbreaking to see all those details but I also highly recommend it!
Director of Snowpiercer, Bong Joon Ho is the same director who won Academy award for Parasite .
You may want to check that too
It’s ok this hits every one who reacts to this hard. 💜
I went on a deep dive to learn everything about the Sewol Ferry Tragey, and it's truly heart breaking. I even had nightmares for a few days about being trapped on a sinking vessel. For me it was just a nightmare, I seriously can't fathom what those kids went through.
This is a good explanatory video, but you have to watch the Italian Army channel version, it's way more complete
