How to Polish Solid Surface Countertops - Gloss Finish

- In this video I will show you how to polish solid surface material to a gloss finish. This process will work on various products include Staron, Corian, HI-MACS, Livingstone, Stonia, Avonite, Hanwa and other similar solid surface materials.
A gloss finish should be performed after the completion of the matte and satin sanding steps. I have included the links to those two videos below. If you already have a solid surface countertop with a gloss finish, follow these steps in this video to revitalize your countertop.

Which polish compound is better for glossy finish
You should use the polishing compound not the rubbing compound. Click on the link in the description.
How long can one generally expect the shine to last before reapplication? I know this is going to depend on usage/wear but just curious on an average time frame. I don’t want to polish mine if I’m going to have to do this every 6 months or less. Have a lot of solid surface counter top sqft to do in this kitchen.
Doing this process you're actually shining the material. It's not like an application of wax that will deteriorate over time. The only thing that will make less shiny is if you scratch it. So if you have a dark color countertop you're going to see the scratches more. If you have a light color countertop, it will stay shiny for years.
@@AndyGraves Thanks for posting this video. My local big box didn't seem to know if there was any variability in Solid Surface texture. I guess this means we can gloss it up from the matte finish it comes in. Are there any manufacturers that deliver a custom counter that is NOT only in matte finish? I assume a local counter shop may be able to make it glossy, if I desire.

Sand up to 600 grit and then polish like I do in the video. This should make it extremely shiny.

Great video! We have Staron counter tops and a seamless sink. I assume I can use this method to clean up the sink which is discolored and scratched? Also what is the best way / product, to keep the sink from staining so quick? Thx!
Sand the sink with 400 grit sandpaper and maroon Scotchbrite. That should clean it and keep it from staining so quick.

I have an old Fleetwood motorhome with solid surface countertops. I can't figure out what type they are. Would you happen to know? It's a 1997 Fleetwood American Tradition

Does this process take scratches off Corian or do I need to lightly sand it first? If I need to sand it, what grit paper do I use?
Check out my other videos that show the sanding process. Polishing will not remove the scratches.
Bro what pads are those (brand)? Also what speed are you on? I tried this and not have the same results
It's all about the sanding. Clean the sander and material in between each grit. The polisher will make it shiny pretty fast if it's sander correctly without deep swirl marks. The pads are the ones from 3m, I think I put a link in the description.

Try an inexpensive polishing compound. Wax will make it shiny but then you will have a layer of wax on your countertop.

Hello, yes it is, it's acrylic plastic. It's the same as Corian solid surface.

No, this is Solid Surface material and will last forever unless you scratch it.

If the countertop is new you still need to sand the counter before you polished it.
If you polish without sanding it will show all the coarse sanding marks.
I see you rotate the machine. How about using a DA machine? Stil need to rotate the machine?
Hello, yes you can use a dual action polisher, it will just take a little longer.
